I don't think there's anybody out there who understands SC in it's
entirety.
If the inputs are under "Extras", the next iPeng version will probably
support them.

Mark,

you are correct, currently iPeng reloads the whole cache every time you
switch servers.
I did think about keeping separate caches a few time but the issue is
not as simple as it looks at a first glance. The problem is: how do I
identify the different servers? IP Address? This will fail in dynamic
IP environments. Server Name? This will fail for servers that can't be
detected by server discovery and added as "additional servers". MAC? I
don't have that one...

Also, iPeng always has to refresh the full cache since SC doesn't know
about changes to the library. I did file a few enhancement request
around this but I don't know if and when these might be included.

To conclude: I would like to support caching several servers (I use
three myself) but I don't yet have a striking idea on how to do this.

[slim] Discrete IR codes for Squeezebox in Crestron

2008-12-24 Thread mbagshaw

Can anyone point me in the right direction to locate the appropriate
discrete IR codes for the Squeezebox to program my Crestron system? I
am using Crestron's DEAL software to enter IR codes, most of which I
have programmed using Crestron's IR receiver box and the original
remote controls for each of my devices. The software also lets me enter
codes in CCR format - I have found appropriate CCR discrete codes for
several of my other equipment on www.remotecentral.com.

I found what I thought was a list of codes for the Squeezebox (they are
described in the file as "clean Pronto hex") but the codes don't convert
to the correct Crestron format (I used the Squeezebox remote control to
enter the POWER code and also entered it from the spreadsheet list and
I found but the codes were different and the POWER_OFF and POWER_ON
codes which were in the list but not on the remote control don't work
at all).

I have seen other posts on these forums talking about "remapping" IR
codes in SlimServer but I couldn't figure out how I would do that and,
in any case, I'm not sure how I would add extra IR codes into the
Crestron system to trigger the discrete Squeezebox codes.

Well, Pippin, we are in the same boat, because I didn't know the answer
either. After Jazztime's suggestion, which is pretty creative, I
figured out that Digital Inputs is accessible via SC under "Extra's".
I am finding that I am struggling to master SC in its' entirety. Anyone
know if there is a online manual for SC? I didn't find Help too
helpful.

Anyway, thanks for your prompt response, as usual. Really enjoying
using iPeng. By the way, after using the app for two to three hours, it
freezes/crashes. I restart, no problems. I'll watch this more closely
and hopefully provide more details as I learn more.

Just ordered a Vudu box for $150. $100 for the box and $50 worth of

open-source solution, but I could not pass up the bargain. I needed
something to play with during the holidays. Hopefully Vudu will still
be around after the new year. The video specs looked impressive...
anyone in the community using one of these? Care comment. Happy

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2008-12-24 Thread mhilbush

I have a question on how iPeng handles multiple SqueezeCenters. But,
before I ask my question, let me say this is an excellent app. It's
certainly one of the more heavily used apps on my touch. Nice work
pippin!!

I have 2 separate locations, where each location has a SqueezeCenter
and several SqueezeBoxen. Both sites are running SC 7.3.1. My iPeng
is at version 1.04. I'm curious how the caching works as I move from
one location to another. Today, in one of the locations, I noticed
that iPeng refreshed the entire cache. I'm assuming it reloaded the
whole cache because it took quite a few minutes to complete (14,000
songs / 1500 albums). I did add several songs (probably less than 20)
to this SC today, so I expected it to update the cache with the new
songs/artwork. In this location, I'm running SC on a ReadyNAS and, as
many of you know, it's a very CPU challenged device. The net result
was that the system was largely unusable for the 5-10 minutes that it
took to load the cache. I don't necessarily view this as an iPeng
problem, as I suspect the ReadyNAS was pegged at 100% utilization while
the cache was being loaded.

The whole process made me wonder if iPeng refreshes the entire cache
when I select a different SC, or whether it maintains a separate cache
for each of the SCs, then just switches to that cache whenever I select
another SC.

Thanks!
Mark

[slim] Streaming software?

2008-12-24 Thread Buddmeister

Hi, been looking through the jungle of streaming-software and have not
found any software matching the needs I have (or, I've not been able to
configure them correctly).

My needs:
1) I have a program producing sound on my PC.
2) I want to "capture" the sound from said program, and stream it to my
local network
3) I want to play the stream on my Squeezebox (Squeezecenter is on a
mac)

Is this possible without 50 different softwares passing signals
around?

The only "good program" I found so far is AirFoil, I can capture the
sound from the app easily and send it to any Airport Express available,
but it's not possible to use the AE as input in Squeezecenter, or is
it?

Thanks in advance!

Re: [slim] Syncing problems with 7.3

Thanks for all the feedback. Very much appreciated.

It might indeed be a constant offset that SoftSqueeze has since
upgrading to 7.3. I might play with it. But I can now 'resize'
SqueezePlay as well. I didn't realize there were different skins. The
default when you install is 'Desktop Skin', which is about 800x600.
Then I noticed Controller Skin in the Settings, and now it has a nice
small interface, actually looking like the Controller. Pretty neat!
Nice work.

Thanks again!

Yeah, I avoid as much of the membership stuff as well when possible.
Back in the old SS6.5 days all of the memberships were also within the
SS server application as well as on SN. Just a *wild* guess on my
part, but I'm wondering if they are trying to minimize some of the
functions of SC for the freebee downloads. This way, most Internet
Radio usage would be restricted to authorized hardware devices (i.e.
purchased hardware) as the devices PIN is required to use SN. No PIN,
no SN, no (very little) Internet Radio via SC7.

It might just be the SC7 architecture that requires SN authorization, I
dunno. But I certainly wouldn't blame SD for restricting access and
functionality to SC without a hardware purchase.:)

[slim] Controller Software Update

2008-12-24 Thread deweydiablo

My controller does not seem to be allowing a software update. My system
was working fine, then my wife wanted to add ipeng to her phone. That
caused me to up date Raidiator (I use a NV+ to run squeezecenter), I
then went and updated to 7.3.1. All of that seemed to go fine. I
notice that the software version on my controller says version 7.2
r3191. But the release notes on the website says that I should have
3476. It seems that I have some new features on my controller, but not
all that should be there. When I try to do a controller update it says
"Copying Update" and the says that it failed and I need to contact
support. I tried restoring the controller to factory settings and
updating from there, but I still get the same problem. All this and I
still never got ipeng to work, but that is a whole 'nother problem now.

It's entirely possible it's a Rhapsody issue. Rhapsody has been flaky

[slim] 7.3 and Mac

I have recently upgraded SqueezeCenter from 7.2 to 7.3 (and then 7.3.1)
on my Mac running OS 10.5.5 (or 10.5.6).

SqueezeCenter is set to start at login. But since the upgrade it fails
to do so, I have to start it manually.

Is there anything I can do to get it working right again? Or is it a
SqueezeCenter failure? I seem to recall that some people had this issue

[slim] It's stopped working! = (

2008-12-24 Thread hurstie1981

Hi, im hoping someone out there can help me.

Ive had the SB3 for around 18 months now, and love it to bits...but i
think its on its way out. Last week..i was using squeezecentre and
listening to a radio stream, which is nothing out of the ordinary,
however it was not a pre-set chanel, one i put in the address for.

After a few mins, it just crashed. I tried everything, but it wouldnt
load up. The remote also stopped working. I then rebooted my PC, and
it came back to life once vista had loaded, but only on squeezecentre.
If my PC was off.i couldnt use anything, the screen would just stay
black, and i couldnt connect to squeezenetwork as my remote wont work.

Ive been trying everything for the past week...but its just not
working!

Ive tried new batteries in the remote, and its still not working.

I hope you can help.

Thanks

Anybody else seen this - since 7.3 and now with the latest 7.3.1 nightly
from last night Im getting a new buffering problem. Basically I always
get a buffer within the first 30 seconds of a track - possibly a second
one shortly after and then it "settles down" and behaves normally.
Anybody else noticed this?

Im running slimserver on windows home server and so far ive noticed it
with a duet connected via home plug.

Thanks so much for this moley6knipe. I searched around and found, from

Thanks again.

Re: [slim] Shoutcast

2008-12-24 Thread psycho13

Thank you for your answer! I've registered and entered my registration
info. Now Shoutcast works and I was able to move it to the favorites.

It still bothers me a bit that a registration is required to be able to
use stuff that just worked out of the box in earlier SC version. I must
say that I'm not a big fan of all that "activate/register to get full
access/functionality" crap (even if it just left in the options so that
everything works fine).

Anyway, thanks again for you help and a Merry Christmas to you!

Re: [slim] Announce: Alsa version of squeezeslave available

2008-12-24 Thread ralphy

I've been enjoying the new display functionality. It makes the old
laptop more useful. I don't need to have a browser handy anymore.

I've attached a small patch that fixes a couple of things;

1. If I restart SC the squeezeslave player disappears until I press a
key on the laptop. No longer blocks forever waiting for a keypress.
2. Added comma and period keys, no more need to hold the shift key to
skip forward and backwards.
3. Removed a couple of annoying display messages, redirected others to
stderr, which I redirect to a file when I start squeezeslave.

I'll add the patch to sourceforge as well.

iTunes won't do anything with FLAC.

You need to convert the files to something iPhone can read. May I
suggest converting them to mp3? Using the LAME encoder set to V2
(190kbps VBR) sounds plenty good to me on an iPod

Plenty software for converting out there eg www.dbpoweramp.com. Free
trial, great piece of kit!

[slim] Itunes Problem

2008-12-24 Thread NoodlesSmash

Hi all.
Sorry if this is a dopey question but I couldn't seem to find an answer
anywhere else. I just got an iphone and want to put some of my music
onto it. My music files are all in flac format so I am guessing this is
why I am having problems. Is there an easy way to select which files I
want to sync to my iphone and then allow itunes to convert them without
screwing up my nicely organised collection I use on my Squeezebox?
Again sorry if it is dumb or the answer is elsewhere.
Stay happy,
Noodles

Thanks for all the comments so far.

I've used the iPeng web apps for a while, but have to say I was a

Think I'll take the plunge and buy the native app, I can them use my

My SC7.3 plays ShoutCast fine. I never use SN, but I do have my SD
devices registered on SN. I think all logins and subscription streams
are all handled through SN now. I suppose you'll have to get setup on
SN to utilize SC radio functions.

- create SN account
- register your device(s) via PIN
- enter SN registration info in SC > Setting > SN

While you are on SN, why not get setup on ALL the great free streaming
services: Live365 (though, like you, I much prefer ShoutCast),
Last.fm, Slacker, Pandora, RadioTime

Once setup and registered you'll never need to connect your device to
SN again, using SC7 only for radio streaming.

In SC7.3 you can move the entire ShoutCast service to your favorites by
simply clicking the "heart" icon. There you can move it anywhere you
like within your favorites so it is front and center for easy access.

[slim] Shoutcast

2008-12-24 Thread psycho13

Hi,

after upgrading to 7.3 it seems to be necessary to use a SqueezeNetwork
account to browse Shoutcast stations and play them. Why is that? Is it
possible to just play Shoutcast stations without an account as before?

Why do you need an SqueezeNetwork account even if you don't want one?!

Shoutcast is now "hidden" deep in the menus, is there any way to bring
it up again to the first menu level?

Thank you,

This is a known issue. It will be fixed in 1.1 or 1.2. Has to do with
the fact that iPeng tries to scroll in both directions.

I'll investigate. Are you sure it's not an Rhapsody issue? It looks
like that had some issues recently? Does it work better with other mens
of controlling Rhapsody (this specific issue :-) )?
It's a bit difficult for me, I do have a Rhapsody account now, but I
never made actual streaming work over here in Germany (by no means of
controlling Rhapsody).

Thanks for the info! So switching the inputs is a plugin or something

Right, when you can buy a cd for € 6.99, you can download it on
the same page in Mp3 for € 9.99!

More expensive for a less quality than a cd (that you could rip in
flac...) and of course without any packaging

Very strange...

Yea, a bad or noisy switching supply can be a huge pain with poorly
isolated equipment. Thankfully there are quality switching supplies
out there that don't have these kinds of issues. AFAIK Slimdevices
supplies much better quality switching supplies these days.
