- Yes

I think there should be a forum for the Classic. This thread is derived
from another thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61420

In that thread transporter users stated that they also want a seperate

Re: [slim] SqueezeSlave Error: libmad: (mp3) decoding error (0x0235)

2009-03-17 Thread ralphy

This error is caused when a frame's main_data_begin pointer points
beyond the available bit reservoir. This can occur if, e.g., the stream

has been cut or spliced.

When this error occurs, the frame cannot be decoded.

It's most likely the radio station mucking with the stream, It's not a
problem with squeezeslave. Could also be the stream in not at 44.1Khz,
which is the only sample rate squeezeslave will play properly. Anything
else needs to be ressampled.

quite.

This is why I like ZFS.

[I ought to declare an interest, as I work for Sun; then again, it's all
open-source, so... :)]

Interesting thought. Not that familiar with Solaris or ZFS but might
 be worth looking into.

I recommend having a look; try downloading the latest OpenSolaris live
cd and having a play.

ZFS is a copy-on-write filesystem, so snapshots are implemented very
naturally. When you take a snapshot, all that happens is that future
writes to a particular block of a file are redirected, and the original
block is kept for the snapshot, the new block for the real filesystem.
It's possible to have thousands of snapshots. Very space efficient.

The GNOME file-manager has an extension to browse the data in snapshots
- which can also be accessed directly - via the time slider, in
practice very much like MacOS Time Machine, but integrated into the
filesystem.

ZFS also provides various levels of RAID, including striping, mirroring,
and two levels of efficient versions of RAID5 (RAIDZ, RAIDZ2), without
any need for a separate volume manager.

There are SC build instructions for OpenSolaris on the wiki, and I'm
looking towards making an unofficial nightly build regularly available,
in the OpenSolaris IPS pkg format.

cheers,
calum.

[slim] Music Catalogue in PDF - Requirements?

2009-03-17 Thread tipsen

Hi
I've made a first draft of a php-script generating a music catalogue in
PDF format from the contents of the SqueezeCenter database. I've
attached a couple of pages from the catalogue and would like to know
the following:

1. Does anyone else have any interest in a nicely formatted pdf
document with albums from SqueezeCenter?
2. Is this just a waste of time since Album Catalog Creator (ACC)
already covers this need?
3. If interested in this what would an optimal catalogue look like -
what information should it contain and what about the layout?

I really think you could capture 99.9% of the spam if:

1. All posts from new users were moderated until X posts are achieved.
Keep X a secret and change it once in a while.

2. After X posts are achieved, keep any new user posting URLs or

I checked the ticked songs issue with additions and deletions.

It works OK. I did have an issue some time ago, where on the iTunes
set up tab, the library.xml pointer wasn't correctly set up to point to
my external drive xml file.

So my set up is:

Basic Settings Tab: Music Folder is BLANK.

iTunes Tab:
Use iTunes: TICKED, Don't include unchecked songs (double negative
strange??), iTunes Music Library.xml location:
/Volumes/Main/MusicHouse/iTunes/iTunes Library.xml,
iTunes Music Folder: /Volumes/Main/MusicHouse/iTunes/iTunes Music

Where Main is external drive, MusicHouse/iTunes is the iTunes top level
folder on the external drive.

I hope this helps

[slim] Streaming bandwidth

2009-03-17 Thread Labarum

What are the bandwidth costs of streaming?

Some basic arithmetic:

A 128 Kb/s stream results in a download of

128 * 60 * 60 = 460 800 Kbit/hour ie 460.8 Megabit/hour

8 bits to a byte

(128 * 60 * 60) / 8 = 57 600 Kilobyte/hour or 57.6 Megabyte/hour

Is that right?

I was required to do an Image Verification before posting. Will that

Can you not just put the CAPTCHA on login/registration then it

[slim] SqueezeBox updating without SqueezeCenter?!

2009-03-17 Thread fbn

Hi,

yesterday I was watching TV when I recognized that the SqueezeBox
powered on and tried to connect to the SqueezeCenter (which was off).

I first thought that I was lying on the remote but it was untouched on
the desk.

I have disabled automatic updates in SqueezeCenter, is there another
option that would wake up the SqueezeBox (even if SqueezeCenter is
offline)?

Thanks,

Oktup,
Since you switched have you noticed if accessing squeezcenter through a
browser is faster. Or should I be expecting the same response time as
on Vista/XP which is OK. I never understood why it is not faster:
dedicated lan, 100Mbps speeds, performing machines. should give
fast response when using a browser?? and I have tried various browsers
from MAC and PC and all give similar response, so I can only blame my
squeezecenter on my Vista PC

I have dedicated a PC (Pentium 4 at 3 Ghz running Vista) . The only
other program running is windows MS Mediacenter which is connected to a
TV used for DVDs. I have over 1000 albums (21000 titles) in FLAC on a
 USB 1 TByte WD drive

By being stable I mean 90 % of the time it is fine, but every once in a
while for no obvious reason the response gets very slow when browsing
for music. In other instances the music can take up to 10 seconds to
start. Sometimes it will be fine after 15 minutes or so, or in other
cases the only way to get everything back right is to restart
everything, from the PC to resetting the remote. I have now started to
look at CPU utilization, and have noticed that when it slows down it is
the squeezcenter program that is running at over 50% CPU.

I am also running my WIFI with 2 Access points with the same name,
since I have a large area to cover.

Who can recommend the simplest setup where there would be no (very very
low) risk of the this anoying hickup to occasionaly happen. Is
squeezecenter more stable on LINUX? or maybe on MAC. It would be a
pity and $$ to dedicate a MAC. Can it be Vista? I have rebuilt the PC
and the only 3rd party application is squeexebox. My WIFI network has
been running fine for 2 years and I do not want change it, but could it
be the 2 Access Points (with same SSID name) that cause this? I had
thought of setting it independentaly usng the players WIFI, but this
makes me loose access from my boombox, and I loose the range I need.

If anyone has every had such issue and managed to resolve some help
would really really really be appreciated!!

..Especially the last 2 times in a week that it crashed was when I
had over 30 guests in the house, and the last thing I wanted to be
doing is resetting everything to get the music back

I am a big fan of Ubuntu Desktop or using VortexBox if you need an easy
install that rips and runs SC without knowing much about Linux.

Re: [slim] BBC WMA Radio streams cause my SB3 to reboot

2009-03-17 Thread mobileadam

Hi Chris,

Any joy with your testing?

I tried to switch on the radio this morning (Radio 1) and found that my
kitchen receiver was doing its old trick of 'rebooting' after 5 to 10
seconds of playback. Rather then spending the usual hours of checking
network quality etc I just logged into SqueezeNetwork and noticed that
my Duet controller was listed (I thought I had deleted it). Anyway, I
deleted it from the web UI and then restarted the stream and no further
reboots today!!! related? maybe? Over the weekend I was getting entries
in the log about trying to get players from SN etc but I have disabled
the sync option so not sure why it is still doing that.

Adam

[slim] Napster Various Artists Bug?

2009-03-17 Thread KMorgan

Hi

On Napster under MyNapsterLibrary/Arstists there is an entry for
Various Artists. If this is selected there is a pause and the the
message Unknown Napster Error is returned.

Having just taken out a Napster subscription I now realise this should
list compilation albums. Is there an error in the Squeezebox
implimentation?

 Oktup,
Since you switched have you noticed if accessing squeezcenter through a
browser is faster.

It's probably squeezecenter. Not unique, though. I have Gigabit managed
switched with web interfaces that are painfully slow as well.

I don't agree that is uses up a significant amount of memory.

But regardless, you can alway just change your inittab to boot into 3
and it boots without X-windows. Then all you are wasting is a few
hundred MB of disk storage.

No, didn't have time to watch the KN, yet I did have a look at the 3.0
beta.
Direct opportunities are not completely obvious, of course I could let
people pay for add on modules now :-)

Another option might be to use some of the notification stuff to have
iPeng react to server events.

One thing that WILL be of interest mid term is cutpaste but I'm not
going to tell what for, yet :-)

In a thread last December, I mentioned that Logitech's SEC filings
indicate that 2009 is an earn-out calculation year for the SD

My experience with many tech industry acquisitions is that founders and

every individual and every company can (and will) be different from
others. I have no knowledge of or familiarity with any of the
