Fair enough, the news release said entire fleet, not every route.
Although, truth be told, Lufthansa did have wireless aboard for some
time on selected flights. That was by satellite, and had very latency,
I've read.
Still a nice feature, often neglected by users, is the ability to
access your music and streaming when you are not at home

True. But as I wouldn't recommend opening SC to the internet, but using
VPN or SSH tunneling instead, I'm still hoping, someone will eventually
come up with a SP applet to configure and run that tunnel in the
background automatically ;-)

Re: [slim] Spotify on Squeezebox

2009-04-01 Thread Jon Spriggs
Maybe we could make use of the good work the despotify.se guys have done to
reverse engineer the Spotify protocols? Out of the box, you need a premium
account, but it does just use an HTTP style bridge between Spotify and any
client.

What do you guys think of that? :D

Good news, it worked flawlessly. I added the stream generated by Icecast
into TVersity, loaded up TVersity through Safari on the iPod, selected
the stream and after a short buffer time as it transcoded it for
 Quicktime it played perfectly.

It may seem like a bit of a kludge to use three apps - Edcast, Icecast
and TVersity - to stream from Spotify to my iPod and Squeezeboxes, but
I do love these techie solutions to do things that otherwise can't be
 done.

The couple of links I found that helped with setting up TVersity were:

[slim] HowTo- Install SqueezeSlave as a Windows Service

2009-04-01 Thread bagawire

Inspired by the beautiful simplicity of iPeng on my shiny new iPhone, I
wanted to be able to control the music playing in the kitchen whilst
sitting on the lav upstairs. Don't we all? But the wife has a habit
of closing things that are running on the computer in the kitchen
before she makes here 78 times daily check of the E! Online RSS feed.
So the only solution was to install SqueezeSlave and run it as a
service.

Not being the sharpest tool in the box, I spent many hours on this
forum last night trying to figure this out. Thanks to many many
helpful posts I got there in the end, and wrote up step-by-step
instructions (attached and here too:
http://bagawire.blogspot.com/2009/04/how-to-install-squeezeslave-as-service.html).
One caveat only, if SqueezeCenter is restarted then the SqueezeSlave
service has to be restarted. Two, actually - if the service resides on
the same machine as is hosting SqueezeCenter then the service will not
start automatically, as it is impatient and will not wait for
Squeezecenter to start.
Many of you clever lot out there probably know what to do about these
things. If you do, then please step in!
Thanks

also tried a mac laptop with a wired connection and this worked as well.

Next time you are on SN and want to switch to SC, start up SC and try
one of these:

SC7 main UI screen: see if the player is listed in the drop down menu

SB3 scroll to Connect to SqueezeCenter

If these don't work then something is not right in your setup. As
nonreality said, if it works then no big deal. But you are jumping
through unecessary hoops to go between SN and SC. You are also
introducing a double WiFi hop that may cause issues down the road,

Re: After changes in SCs Security Settings...WRONG!!!

2009-04-01 Thread Siduhe

You don't say what OS you are running on, but to delete the password -
stop squeezecenter, find the squeezecenter.pref file, take a backup of
the file first, then open up in a text editor, and you should be able
to scroll down and manually delete the password. Save, restart
squeezecenter, and you should be able to log in just by putting in your
user name, and leaving the password blank.

To reset other settings, you may need to stop squeezecenter, delete the
prefs file entirely - then restart but you will need to set it up all
over again (all settings, not just security).

I don't think the OP can get into the web interface to reset the
security settings.

Tirion, again, I don't think that file will necessarily show up on a
search, because of the location it is stored in. Are you searching for
hidden and system files?

Sounds like an uninstall may be the best thing to do, but make sure you
delete all traces of SC including your prefs and logs, otherwise you
will still have the problem when you reinstall.

[slim] Next product I want from SD er Logitech: SqueezeVideo

2009-04-01 Thread Eric Carroll

Ok, the next product I want from Logitech streaming media division
formerly known as SlimDevices is...

SqueezeVideo.

Ethernet/Wireless in.
HDMI 1.3 video out.
- component/svideo analog video out?
SPDIF/2ch analog audio out
- maybe 5.1 analog out?
High Bit Rate codec passthrough
Good DAC if analog audio outs.

Use the latest Sigma Designs SoC that does all latest formats including
H.264

Tight integration with SqueezeCenter. NO BUILT-IN GUI on the box!!! Let
the Squeeze remote do the job of running the GUI and SqueezeCenter
generate it.

Its sole function is to select files and play them. Let someone else do
the recording just like Squeezeboxen let other systems ready the
content.

And, MOST IMPORTANTLY, API to allow PVRs or any other software to
integrate to it for driving playback via IP interface just like on
Squeezebox.

For reasons I can't fathom all the current video players coming out are
all monolithic GUI/Players with no API for integration.

I appreciate that Sigma wants its driver code help proprietary, but
there is no reason not to build an IP interface to permit commands to
be given to the block of code doing the playback.

That's what I was just thinking.

I have a friend that bought a Cisco Pix box on eBay a while back at a
good price. Turns out, the factory in China was making some for
Cisco, and making some for themselves.

The one he got was a counterfeit Cisco understandably wouldn't
allow him to purchase software for it.Seems like that may be an
issue that may become a bigger problem as time goes forward.

What do you guys think of that? :D

This is way over my head, but if it means being able to select Spotify

[slim] Controller + SB Classic + SqueezeCenter

2009-04-01 Thread yoogie27

Hi all,

I have Squeezecenter 7.3.2 24695 installed on a quadcore HP server
running on Debian Linux Etch. The network address is 10.0.0.0/24 and we
have 2 x SB Boom and 2 x SB Classic in the network.

Server-Address is 10.0.0.1, rest in the same network.

Wireless LAN is Linksys WRT54GS with newest OpenWRT. Both WAN and LAN
are set to bridge mode so all boxes access the server through the same
network. Broadcasts are flying around.

Squeezeboxes are playing fine, most of them connected through LAN.

Now to the problem. I recently bought a SB Controller to smoothly
administer all boxes, but can't get the black thing to find any
players.

Controller version is: 7.0.1 r2448
Software update from within the controller fails. Syslog says:

anyway, while hanging around in the ssh session I tested the network
connection to the server with netcat (nc) which was running absolutely
fine. There is an iptables firewall running, but the device is
unrestricted. I killed the firewall and it didn't make any difference.

The setup on the controller did not find anything and when I hold the
left key an go to the serverlist, it shows SqueezeNetwork and YMS (my
server), but when I click on them the screen shakes but nothing
happens. In the log I can see that yms should have no players. But I
can definately confirm that there are players connected. I can choose
between them all from the webinterface and all are playing fine.

It talks to the SqueezeCenter, because I see it in the list of music

I stick on the screen for hours without finding any player.

Last time I killed the server, Controller showed me 2 players, but of
course it was not able to enumerate, because the server was gone...

Weird

You said you have two booms and two sb3's. But the info page you
posted only lists one sb3.

Do they all have unique names?

The controller gets its list of players from SC... so it has to get
that list and be stuck processing it until you kill SC, at which point
the dropped connection translates as this list is done.

It sounds to me like SC is sending some of the list and then getting
stuck: which is why it seems relevant that the list of players only
shows 1 SB3.

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2009-04-01 Thread danull

I recently bought iPeng on the iTunes store.

I was a little squeamish about paying the 10 bucks (I'm cheap at heart)
- but the thing works great with my ~1000 albums...especially when
hanging out on the porch while my home theatre system stereo blasts
inside the house.

Anyway, you can put me down as yet another happy iPenger.

Btw, they also support, YouTube, Picasa, Flickr and recently added

On Vista, server.prefs can be found in

Use a text editor to search server.prefs for password. You'll find
about 6 different password entries. Delete the offending one, inserting
' ' in its place.

If this doesn't work, delete server.prefs restart squeezecenter and
redo the preferences.

Good luck.

[slim] Squeezebox2 AC Apapter?

Just moved and in the process lost my AC adapter. Reviews say its a
Unifive switching AC adapter but I can't find anyone selling one. There
are lots of 5v 2a adapters for sale but I don't know the pin specs.
Anyone got a clue where I might find one. Logitech doesn't list them in
accessories store(understandable)

I believe the plug is pretty standard at 5mm external and 2mm internal.

As long as it is 5v and 2A or above it should work, these are actually
pretty easy to get a hold of.

You said you have two booms and two sb3's. But the info page you posted

Well, one is switched off. But Controller is logging that there are no
players connected. Connecting to SqueezeNetwork fails as well with the
same message.

I have flashed the stock Linksys firmware from 2005, because I read
somewhere that this would help... well, it doesn't

Okokok.
I did change the icon for the version I re-submitted to the App Store
today.
I find it a bit ugly now but it has good reactivity and it's clearly
distinguishable, although it's still blue :-)

Also got a chance to fix the issue for which I had invented an 1.1.1
release target´only yesterday which was that iPeng did flush the album
cache when you connected to SN which it was not supposed to do and
which is a bit uncomfortable if you've got a large database. At least
some good out of this

I suggest not using it until they have the resources to work on it
