Re: [slim] How to make 'stopped' radio station to 'autorestart' ?

2009-06-02 Thread minky

I have the same problem.

Using Squeezebox Boom over wifi, internet music randomly stops
(last.fm, internet radio). I don't have this when playing from my
library.

SC is 7.3.2 on Fedora 10, wired connection.

A reconnect on stop would be great. Have voted for the bug.

Any other workarounds?

Re: [slim] Do any of the 'software' players now work on Macs?

2009-06-02 Thread snoogly

My Java version is 1.5.0_16, can't find 1.6 for Mac anywhere, so i guess
it's not available.

When I launch softsqueeze, Java doesn't render the player or controller
at all - so I just get a blank desktop.

I'm at a loss what to do now.

Re: [slim] Compilations not working

2009-06-02 Thread iSam

Hi all

Thanks again for the responses.

I am using AAC (I haven't got around to re-importing any music yet -
only been on this bandwagon for a few days).

I have had a dig and sure enough, in the music folders there is a
separate folder for each artist, each containing one song. iTunes
recognises the compilation now though as I have set the album as a
compilation (so there is obviously a tag somewhere). Therefore, while
it keeps the separate files, it recognises the single album.

I am not sure how to see tags in SqueezeCenter, but when I click on one
of the songs (in the web browser), it does say "Compilation: yes" for
each. However, it is not compiling them.

I have done a full clear and rescan and am still getting the same
behaviour.

Cheers

iSam

Thanks for those leads, but I can't find any of downloading 1.6 for

someone could let me know where I can download a newer version (1.6)

Once the station is playing add the same station again to the Playlist.
When stream one stops SC will automatically start playing the next item
in your Playlist which is the same station again.
If the second stream stops SC will go back to stream one.

These streams in your Playlist will be removed automatically when you
choose Play of a different stream.

Most (all I have seen so far) of the DS have an internal serial port

I see this was committed to the 7.4 development branch in r25809
(http://svn.slimdevices.com/slim?view=revision&revision=25809), which
says that it was committed from your patch with a couple of changes. I'd
prefer to take the patch from that officially committed to the 7.4
branch if possible so can you see any problems with me taking that
rather than the patch you pointed at? That might leave me some 7.3-->7.4
differences to resolve, but I'll find out when I give that a go later.

Unfortunattaly there is no option to disable speedstep in the BIOS.

My Windows XP was configured for Home/Office Desk. This should also
give max CPU speed, since the EEE box is always using wired power. I
just changed the Power Scheme to Always On. I will see if it makes any
difference.

It's not the processor, it looks like that something in the chipset is
throttled. Timers are not running with the correct timing. Have a look

I don't know much about AAC files. Perhaps you could try ripping a similar
album in mp3 format to see if you get the same issue?

>I am not sure how to see tags in SqueezeCenter
You don't see tags, as such. i.e. SC scanner reads tags and stores them in its
own database, which SC reads from. You cannot view/change tags within SC.

You may be able to see the tags within Mp3Tag, which supports more file formats
than just mp3 (it's an unfortunate name).

>but when I click on one of the songs (in the web browser), it does say

So it has detected the compilation tag in the AAC file.

It appears that speedstep will not be deactivated by being using the
"Always On" power scheme. I have downloaded CPU-Z
(http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php), at this shows that the processor
multiplier jumps from 6x to 12x.

That's completely false - Linux supports speedstep just fine (likewise
BSD, OSX and Solaris).

I also doubt that this is as simple as speedstep causing the problem,
as even when my server is cranked down to min speed simple things like
network pings are unaffected. I'm going to guess some weird issue with
drivers/bios/chipset interactions - as it seems specific to one family
of machines.

I agree on most of this, though the geeky part isn't always a bad
thing, geeky is becoming a bit cool you know :)

I also agree that the completely non techy version of a SB is an ipod

it also a great deal *better* too.

The SliMP3 didn't have wifi :P

I was an ardent follower of SD from when they were first featured on /.
(slashdot.org for those that don't know). I was on the maining lists for
a while (they started on yahoo! didn't they?) then moved to being a
forum user when i realised I couldn't keep up with the lists when I
wasn't at home to check my email.

I think I also used to read all the patched on the CVS list too :geek:

Good luck Sean in whatever new endeavors you move into. And thanks for
creating slimdevices and the product range.

Well said.

I think the perceived complexity and geekyness of Squeezecenter, other
than networking issues, often comes from people being overwhelmed by all
the various settings and options. I have long thought that SC could
possibly benefit from hiding many settings, by having a default 'simple'
mode with only the essential setting visible, and an option to switch to
'advanced' user mode for the power users and tweakers. Lots of software
does that to good effect these days. I think the new control panel goes
some way in addressing this.

I got a free controller with my Transporter last September (from
Ripcaster.co.uk; offer still on, apparently). Still no signs of either
being superceded :-) .

OTOH, every time I've upgraded my digital camera (Canon EOS) on
temptation of a good price, a new model has come out within a month.

Based on this post, it looks like Logitech are preparing more than one
new product for release. It mentions a new version of the Duet, and a
device with a touch screen.

I don't know, I like Toby10's picture. Wiggle the ears (are those
ears?) to control it.

Re: [slim] Updated Squeezebox products?

2009-06-02 Thread maggior

This has made for some interesting reading. It seems to have been quiet
on the SB front lately. I chalked it up to slowed development due to a
slowed economy.

I've been otherwise occupied since the birth of my son in March (who I
am bouncing in his bouncy seat with my foot as I type this message :-),
so I haven't been following the forums here as much as I used to.

There seems to be quite a delay with the release of the 7.3.3 version
of the server. Might they be holding it up so its release coincides
with the release of new hardware? I seem to recall that this happened
with 7.0 and the release of the Duet, and 7.2 (??) with the Boom.

I probably won't be in the market for any of the new devices, but the
gadget geek in me would be anxious to see what they are all about.

No, I think the delay on 7.3.3 is SBC firmware stability. They've done
a ton of work trying to iron out connectivity problems some people are
having, but there's a whole thread on "this is better/no, it still
sucks" type posts for qa to figure out.

[slim] I messed up SoftSqueeze, how do I reset the menu?

2009-06-02 Thread lordboots

I've reset the player back to defaults, and that did nothing, I deleted
it, re-installed it, but I still have the remote stuck on the left hand
side of the player, so I can't see what I'm doing. How can I reset the
menu and remote preferences? I can't even turn off the remote, as it's
covering the screen as well.
