Re: [slim] Tweet this album/song option?

2009-09-07 Thread Goodsounds

I personally don't get Twitter. When I've gone there, it struck me as
full of "who cares" kind of material. Does anyone really care what music
someone is listening to, or care enough to go through a bulky list of
filler to find out? I guess if I did, I would ask. But I don't care,
it's about as riveting to me as "what did you have for breakfast?".

Thinking it was maybe an age or generational thing, I asked my kids -
they don't care for it either.

I'd love to hear why you find this worthwhile, I could very well be
missing something. Thanks

Do you have plugins installed? One of Erland's (Custom Browse,
probably) replaces the track info menu, and then you have to go another
level deep by scrolling down to "Show standard song info" and then push
right. There is a toggle for this in the plugin settings IIRC.

"Amen" on all these points. Compatibility with Erland's plug-ins (or a
suitable replacement in the core software) in particular is a "must

I've been looking at the ASRock Ion 330BD. Atom based, with blu-ray
drive small pc. Thinking about getting this for the lounge. It gets
good reviews on HD playback, has HDMI out (and optical audio). Handles
1080. The only setback is that it isn't 100% on flash based (i.e.
youtube) HD content, because the flash players aren't (yet?) using GPU
hardware.

"Love this track" is in the track info menu (press right from now
playing on the current track) in 7.3 or the context menu (+ button) in
7.4. In the WebUI, I think it's in the track info menu that you get when
you click a song title.

One nice side effect of the new context menu is that it seems to make
it a little harder to do accidental loves. Before, if you just hit right
arrow twice it would love the track. Now you'd have to hit + and then
right arrow.

Looking forward to seeing what your script offers!

Re: [slim] Original Slim Devices Squeezebox: wireless-g?

Yes, they are the same except for the logo on the faceplate. However,
the Slim Devices branded SB3s were produced in both wifi and wired-only
versions (the wifi model also does wired ethernet). So if you need to
have wifi you should verify that the one you are looking at is a wifi
model. Offhand I am not sure how you would verify it's wifi-capable
without trying to set it up, because the antennas are internal and the
label on the bottom doesn't say anything about wireless.

I had a similar problem, described in the thread at
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66823.

In my case it made a difference if I set a value for
lan_network_address, even though I was (successfully!) using dhcp and
that value should have been ignored!

Its not very scientific, but maybe try setting dummy values for any of
the settings which still contain the factory default value.

Supposedly wireless N is even more likely to have issues resulting from
site interference (mostly other people's old wireless networks).

How is the signal strength throughout the house? In my experience, the
SB can operate with relatively low signal quality (30%-ish) and still
play FLACs, but then they become quite allergic to interference. My
Kitchen Squeezebox will stop playing when I turn on the microwave.
However it affects no other SB in the house. Also, if you have the other
SB synchronized to the box affected by the interference, it'll hurt all
of them, so my theory is that it is a good idea to synch to the one with
a stronger and more stable signal.

Wireless can be tricky. The WRT100 doesn't seem to offer the option to
connect stronger antennas to it (I resent that with new Linksys models
with the fancy housing), which is one way to try to address this.

Again, check for interference - microwave or anything that acts like an
antenna- close to one of your boxes.

[slim] Squeezebox wifi

2009-09-07 Thread bentley-farm

Hi all
I've been looking at a squeezebox duet setup as a multiroom solution.
I'm down to either the squeezebox or another well known wireless system
(not sure if were meant to mention names on here)
My question is to do with the wireless network side of things. I'm
planning on doing a wired setup to each room from a central network hub.
Do the duet boxes allow the wireless network to be used for normal data
ie act as a repeater for laptops etc, or are they only usable by other
squeezeboxes?

Thanks in advance
Rob

Any idea what the problem could be? Do the batteries ever go bad, even

I use wake on lan ( WOL ) Boom has the amazing ability to actually send
a WOL packet to the server 10 minutes before the alarm.
My WOL setup is so that my server boots up on wol signal so the server
can be off all night it will wake up in time to sound the alarm, the 10
min marginal is probably because we Linux users face a scheduled fsck
disc check every 50th boot or something.

I use random song mix for wakeup , it's always exciting what would it

Fyi Boom also sends wol when you press the "power" button .

Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95

2009-09-07 Thread vw195

Wow I really like your Slim Control program (v. 0.95). Very smooth and
fast on my 640x480 HTC Touch Pro. Hopefully one of these days I will
get a squeezebox to use it with instead of softsqueeze which I am using
now. Ordered a SBRadio yesterday so when it ships, I will have more to
play with. let me know if you need any VGA testing done.

We want to include native ALAC too.

And as for seeking support in AAC/ALAC, I have spent a ton of time
trying to get this to work and it still seems a long way off. So,
seeking may not be there when we ship. :(

Re: [slim] Future of Squeezebox Classic

2009-09-07 Thread EowynCarter

Yeap ;)

My ISP have, it seams, the annoying habit to push update at night,
forcing the modem to restart. Hopefully, everything goes fine, and the
SquezzeBox catch the connexion again. My NAS can't run all night, so
"wake up" would have to be from the the Squeezenetwork.
My main trouble there is that my usual wake up radio won't work with
the SB, that make me hesitant to buy one.

Maybe, but given that the actual question was:

"Is the SqueezeBox usable at all ? For the stuff like alarms ,

it is fairly relevant !

very useful without a server running :)

The highest output the SB3 can give you is 24/48. Any source material
higher than that will be down sampled on the server by SOX (assuming you
are running 7.3.x or later)

ALAC playback will not and indeed cannot be added to the IP3K range of
players (SB2, Receiver, Transporter and Boom). AAC will be supported
natively on Touch and Radio, I can't remember if that also includes ALAC
though.

This has already been asked, the answer is not yet. When the Radio is
out of the door and the development team get back to finishing the Touch
then they will also release an more up to date version of SqueezePlay
which will then provide a simulation of how the Touch will look.

I guess that it is built upon squeezeplay just like the controller, so

Any thoughts?

"BLUE": Waiting to connect to SqueezeCenter or SqueezeNetwork

That suggest you have not specified the server address correctly, or the
server is firewalled.

No, you can't do that.

However, two things that might help.

1. Press and hold the button until the light flashes red slowly, and
release it before it begins flashing red quickly. This puts the SBR in
config mode and enables Net-UDAP to discover it and retrieve the current
settings.

2. udap_shell should have a command history - press cursor up to scroll
back through previous commands. Perhaps this doesn't work on Windows?
