At least in Germany the rules only apply to what you are allowed to install in the bathroom (as a professional). No laws forbidding to use a radio in the bathroom. The first think you'd have to disallow if you did were hairdryers which would be kind of ridiculous. Re: [slim] Defection and challenge
A lot of different topics in this thread but an interesting discussion. My view around ripping/tagging is that you are never going to get 100% correct first time but there are some great tools out there which will automate the process. My personal approach is to use vortexbox on my small server, its great to get a new CD in the post, pop it in the server and 10-15 later its ripped, tagged, got cover art & available on my Squeezeboxes - this was particularly beneficial when I re-ripped my cd collection into FLAC earlier this year. I'm moving house at the moment, the Cd's are being boxed up and will stay that way, as I've got all my music stored on the server in lossless format then I have no need for having the cd's in a rack taking up a lot of space. Of course, there are times when it doesn't get the correct information and I have to manually edit tags (I use mp3tag & the find cover art plugin for this). Before buying my first Squeezebox I used iTunes for ripping music to then transfer to iPod/iPhone, to be honest I never had any problems and liked the software, as it stands I rarely use it now and using SB kit has opened my eyes to the limitations of Apple. In terms of a "typical user", I fully understand where people come from with that, I have a group of friends, we're all late 20's and everyone has either an iPod or iPhone, out of that group I think perhaps only 2/3 from the 15 would be savvy enough to use SB kit - looking at the touch and the radio these are the type of products that may well push that number up. That might come across as slightly snobby but I think people will know what I mean. -- socistep socistep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18860 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67637 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] VBR mp3
Thanks Andy. My real, poorly stated question was - should I expect it to work in 7.4, and how well. I think you've said that it should, so I'll keep using it and open a bug if I have a problem. The thing that I was seeing in 7.3 was that I'd play maybe an hour into a long track, and when I paused, it would restart nowhere near were it had paused. And when I tried to find a spot whose time I knew (say 1 hour into a 2 hour track) I would wind up someplace else. I have not seen that in 7.4, but that's very preliminary. (These long tracks, if you're curious, are ripped from a good rtsp stream from WBAA and converted to mp3 by lame.) And finally - they do show up in more info as CBR. Does that mean I'm messing up generating a good header? -- Millwood 2 SB3, 1 Duet Debian Lenny server 2 AP (netgear, linksys) wireless network. Re: [slim] Is it possible to imbed one playlist into another?
Well, it doesn't really imbed it, at least I don't think that is what's happening. When I add another playlist to the current one, it shows up as a single separate item just like a song. New items from the currently playing playlist even appear after the imbedded playlist, but once the imbedded playlist is reached SC basically treats it as a brand new playlist...all of the tracks from the old playlist are gone. I guess it works ok. The imbedded playlist initially was populated with 5 tracks. I immediately added the original playlist to the mix, and once the 5 new tracks were finished another "new" playlist began. Again, all the previously played tracks were erased. The biggest negative is that since I use crossfade, the new playlist abruptly cuts off the last track 10 seconds before the end (which is when I have crossfade set to begin) and starts the new playlist. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I guess it will do in a pinch. -- GeeJay GeeJay's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11388 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67830 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
