The Mac version can use the Export Playlists plugin to achieve this.
However I believe the OP was using a PPC Mac and AFAIK there is only an
Intel build of Songbird for OS X.

Re: [slim] Mew Version of Transporter ?

2010-01-02 Thread DejanM

First of all, sorry for not using search capability of the forum. I
didn't know that this subject has been already discussed in a such a
detail ...

Anyway, a couple of comments from my side ... i really do not know
whether buying SD by Logitech was a good strategic move or not - to
judge that we need revenue and profit numbers, which we do not have. I
do believe though that SD/Logitech has to defend their position on the
market. I do not believe they can do that by simply leaving it.
Although, that is also one possibility ...

Transporter was and still partially is, very interesting product. It is
not coming from the Hi End brand, but it was fairly priced, with a nice
set of features. I believe that SD could improve Transporter market
share by adding some new features (video, why not ?!) and also by
improving the already existing ones (for example to implement 24/192
native reading). Fairly priced and with improved audio performance this
can be a great contender.

The other issue is "proprietary" server software, which may be an issue
when it comes to integration with the products from other vendors.
Although the most important one is supported (Apple iTunes) still there
are not covered areas: DLNA, UPnP, ...

I still believe though that Transporter is a unique product on the
market with the great potential of beeing even better.

Not sure about the Mac version of Songbird, but on the Windows version
(and I think the Linux version, though I have to confirm), it's simply:
File > Export playlist(s) > [select playlists to export]
THEN
click the Preferences button in the Export Playlist(s) dialog, and on
"Default playlist format to export your playlists as" click the
drop-down menu, choose M3U, then click OK.
then click "Export playlist(s)".

Or maybe the Mac version doesn't have the M3U option?

Try VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) which comes
in Intel and PPC flavours and is quite handy for playlist making as well
as being a potential replacement for iTunes as a player and general
library organiser. Doesn't do album art though.

Mac has to route between ethernet and wifi - I don't know about Mac but
on Windows this needs to be enabled.

Alternative config would be SB3 connected by wifi to router and have
SB3 bridge Mac to Wifi (i.e. wired connected between mac and SB3).

Okay so at the most primal what are my/our wants:

1) FLAC
2) Mac PPC compatible
3) Edit tags
4) Import (via CD or download'd file)
5) Add artwork (less necessary)
6) FLAC !!!

(It sounds a lot like iTunes minus FLAC support, but there are a host
of things I don't want: a system resource hog, a bloated program,
something that dials home to the Apple iTunes store when it thinks I
want to buy something, tries to determine the audio volume on all my
tracks - whether the option is selected or not, wants to manage my
internet audio content, which wants to import and manage my video
content, and most importantly ** can't do FLAC natively **.)

Yep, I use itunes for synching my ipods/iphones and like it just fine
as a music management tool in many ways. Easy to search, etc. (if only
the web interface to SbS was half as easy to use in terms of showing
libraries, sorting, creating smart playlists, etc Yes, I use
dynamic playlists, custom browse, etc. etc., but none of this is as
simple as the basic itunes model). Unfortunately, itunes doesn't do
secure rips and/or have AccurateRip access. And I much prefer FLAC files
for use on all my SqueezeBoxes. I have no need for lossless on my IPOD,
and the SB environment seems to work much better with FLAC files as
compared with Apple Lossless.

I tried Songbird out a couple of weeks ago but could not figure out how
to export playlists to an M3U; that's a deal killer for me. Play from
sbooth.org has the same issue.

For ripping and tagging, I gave up on Mac apps and now run dbpoweramp
in a Windows VM. I tried Max from sbooth.org, but its tagging wasn't
very good. Maybe the new Rip application under development there will
be better.

My big problem right now is creating playlists for mysb. If I could
only export playlists from Songbird...

Looks perfect, but no Mac support. I'm beginning to think that I need
to upgrade (either to an Intel Mac or back to Fedora).

You'd think with all the design/film/creative geek crowd on Macs there
would be a good music management app.

Don't get me wrong -- I appreciate their hardware and support. This
Mac has only been off for maybe 20-30 hours in 6 years and that was to
move it from apartment to apartment to new home. And a maybe 20 minutes
to give it RAM and HD upgrades.

[slim] SRC in Transporter Processor Loop, possible?

I'm currently using the Transporter's processor loop in a system that is
set up with 44.1 kHz SF.
Now, some (most?) radio stations use other SFs than 44.1, and to make
my system more versatile I would like to put a Sample Rate Converter

Is it possible to do such a thing?

Hard to imagine, but it's been three years and two OSs since we guessed
in that post that Apple would include FLAC support.

They haven't.

I'm aware that you can install codex for QT which allow FLAC support in
iTunes, but I'd rather replace iTunes instead.

I'm more frustrated today at iTunes than I've ever been. I want a
simple front end to import, add art work, and manage tags. Has anyone
ran across anything they like? I've used both Cog (feature lacking) and
Play (from the makers of Max) but am still open to something ne aw.

Oh - I really like Songbird, but the Mac being used as a server is PPC
not Intel so I can't use that. In the same vein, since that Mac is
basically only a server now I really don't need a feature rich front end
anymore. Just something to manage tags and import.

Thoughts?

some pretty good weed. Whilst it's better than its current competition
in what it offers for the audio space, whatever is done other than via
Jive is immediately available for others to utilise. In short, whether

they're screwed. From Logitech's perspective I'd say the acquisition of

in the convergence space.

I wonder if anyone at Logitech wishes they'd written a proprietary
ui+playback app and used Android instead of building their own Linux
distro. ISTM they've spent a lot of money (by Slim Devices standards) on
SqueezePlay/SqueezeOS. Some of the non-core high-(marketing)-value
features like Facebook would have been free with Android.

For $100 it plays video from a hard drive or network storage, plus

I believe Logitech is moving away from audio-only players completely.
They have to be - they're being left in the dust by their competition in

Scan Logging to Debug and apply.

Then do a playlist only scan and check the server.log file (or maybe
the scanner.log file, but pretty sure it's the server file you need).
Any other info?

Remember to unapply the Debug back to Error when you're done.

Re: [slim] Can't get radio to work on SB3 + Mac Mini

2010-01-02 Thread Husted

Yes, it's a wired connection between the SB3 and the Mac. I really don't
want to switch to wireless since I'll loose the WOL feature. Also I seem
to remember that it's not recommend to have both the server and the SB3
on wireless. Is that still the case?

I have shared my internet connection between wifi and ethernet. At
least I think I have. But something is keeping the SB3 from connecting.
I guessing that radio streaming is working for others and I was hoping
to find someone with a similar setup.

Balloon refers to the balloon tips used by ACC. The balloon tips are
the windows that appear when you hover with your mouse over the blue
question marks.

Balloon tips are programmed in javascript. Since ACC depends on the
Internet Explorer settings it may be due to the fact that you have
configured some javascript restrictions. Does this ring a bell?

[slim] Amp & SB1 volume settings

2010-01-02 Thread dvanleeuwen

I have a JVC amp, a Harmony Remote and a SB1. I have it set up so that
my Harmony will adjust the volume settings on the amp. But the volume

versions of the SB firmware there was an option to get rid of this.
Where in the new version is this option?

I know there is an option to set the volume of the SB1 at a fixed level
to 100%? But I want to use the webinterface also to change the volume

Any tips?

Only if that separate harddrive is a NAS (which is like a mini-computer
combined with a harddrive) and the NAS is running it's own copy of
SqueezeboxServer. There are NAS units that do this (ReadyNAS, etc.).
Bottom line, to stream music, there must be something ON that is running
the SbS software. You can listen to streams from mysqueezebox.com, but
can't access your own local music from this source.

I'm a bit confused. Are you hard wired to your SB from your Mac Mini
with an ethernet crossover cable? If so you might try disconnecting it
then unplug the power to the SB for a minute. When you re-connect the
power to the SB hold down the " + " button on the controller. This will
re-set the unit and allow you to choose a wireless connection. Let us
know.

[slim] Can't get radio to work on SB3 + Mac Mini

2010-01-02 Thread Husted

Hi all

I have a Mac Mini that host all my music. The setup is as follows:
SB3 - ethernet - Mac - wifi - router - modem - isp

Normal file playback is fine, it's only internet radio that fails.
Opening the radio channels in a normal browser works fine.

The Mac has internet access, I'm writing this post from it. I can
browse the available radio channels on the SB3 but when I press play
nothing happens. The GUI says "connecting" for a few seconds then the
status goes back to stopped. Selecting mysqueezebox.com as music source
on the SB3 fails too (Yes, I am signed in).

Does anyone have a similar setup that can help me debug?

Regards

Yes, the solution with a wired switch should work fine.

As prices are very low I would recommend a Gigabit Switch with minimum
5 or 8 ports. Most PCs, Laptops and NAS support Gigabit (its about 125
MB/s against max. 12,5 MB/s with Fast-Ethernet).

As others have said - probably rather unlikely. In a way its time has
passed. It was a truly unique and remarkable offering when it came into
existence. Today there are many other high quality solutions.

And as customers our position is stronger as we can now more freely
combine transports, or more generally content providers such as a
Squeezebox Touch with a high-quality converter from some of the many
established manufacturers of high quality stereo equipment.

Re: [slim] Wired network for Transporter & Ready NAS Duo

2010-01-02 Thread toby10

I presume by your comments you already have a wireless router as your
home network.
If yes, then a simple wired switch should work fine.

>From one of your routers LAN ports just run a cable to the Switch, then
as many cables from the switch to your devices.

One thing to be careful of is that there are Switches and Hub/Switch
combos. A simple Switch has no designated "input" port for the cable
coming from your router. A Hub has such a designated "input" port. A
Hub can be used as a simple Switch by just not using this "input" port.

I ran into the Hub issue long ago giving me very erratic connection &
DNS issues with several devices. Not using the "input" port on my
Hub/Switch (now making it a Switch) solved all my connection issues and
has worked flawlessly ever since.

A word of advice: Buy a bigger Switch than you think you currently
need. You may just need a simple 4 port Switch right now, but going to
a 6 port or 8 port Switch would not cost that much more. More room to
grow and keep in mind that one of the Switch's ports will be needed for
the input cable.

Hope this helps. :)

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v2

2010-01-02 Thread Teus de Jong

I also isolated the sets that are not split in CDs: these are all albums
with more than one artist (the second is displayed behind each track as
Ft. ...). Attached one example of a 2 CD set.

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v2

2010-01-02 Thread Teus de Jong

Frank,

I studied the mistakes more carefully (sorry for not doing this first).
The first problem is only there when the disc set contains more than 9
discs. You can see a good example on the attached screen dump. There are
4 discs labeled CD 1. This should be: CD 1, CD 10, CD 11, CD 12.

I'll have a further look at the few sets that are not split in CDs at
all.

A second sorry: I said this worked all right with the previous version,
but that is not true. I just looked at a run I did in the beginning of
december and the same mistakes are there also.

[slim] Mew Version of Transporter ?

2010-01-02 Thread DejanM

Hi,

I am very curious whether Logitech planned to develop a new version of
the Transporter unit ? Something that will be capable of reading native
24/192 with even better output stage ?

I'll look into it. Interesting issue...

yep, 5 works :-S

Still playing around and I haven't had the error again. I have tried
big art, small art, big and small font for tracks and no tracks. The
only combo was big art, big font and 4 which caused the issue.

The creation of the temporary ACC table has nothing to do with the
print pagination settings as these are applied during the writing of the
catalogs when all database processing has already been done. Probably
something other going wrong here. When you change the value of 4 back is
the problem resolved (I can't imagine).
