[slim] SB3 "Your Player Was Not Found"
This is a sudden problem; I have never had an issue like this with my SB. I came home one night and SB3 was unable to connect to the squeezecenter. My set up: Computer_1: Laptop with squeezecenter software, wireless Computer_2: Desktop with music, wired SB3 wireless SB3 connects no problem to the network. In fact, I can play Internet Radio. Squeezcenter can see the Music on the other computer no problem The only issue is the SB3 and squeezecenter can't "see" each other, apparently I added the 3 Ports as exceptions to my linksys router, after Tech suggested that. It made no difference. Of course the Windows Firewall exceptions are also set. I have reset to factory settings on SB multiple times, to no avail, obv. Control Panel indicates all oks, IP Address, pings, etc. Version 7.4.1 - r28947 Operating System Windows XP - EN - cp1252 Antivirus: Free version of "PC TOOLS ANTIVIRUS" which I don't think has a firewall. No place to put exceptions. I've always used this and no problem with blocking SB3. Please remember this set up has worked for months. This is a new problem that seemingly occurred out of the blue. [slim] Why is AAC the default
I noticed that almost all the radio stations on SqueezeBox server are on Radiotime and in this format. http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s22199&formats=aac,mp3,wma,wmpro,wmvoice,wmvideo,ogg&partnerId=16 This means that when you start them they plan in AAC format because that is the first on the supported stream list. This causes SBS to start transcoding the AAC to FLAC creating unnecessary processor load on the SBS server. You can tune in a URL like this http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s22199&formats=mp3&partnerId=16 and get the mp3 stream. But then you need to have custom URLs for all your stations. Re: [slim] are Amazon MP3s gapless on SBS?
FWIW, there have been people who have encountered problems with certain tracks downloaded from eMusic. They have then downloaded the tracks from itunes and encountered the exact same error (an error that is not present on the physical cd). Emusic has stated that they do not encode the music themselves, the copy is given to them from the record label. However, I don't know if this is true for all vendors. Some people have reported downloading the same album from emusic and, say, Amie Street or Amazon, and the version from Amie Street/Amazon has a higher bitrate. Go figure. [slim] Connecting TV to transporter's digital inputs help?
Hi, I bought a Transporter back in 2006. I have a PC and DVD connected to a Sony Bravia KDL-32S4000 TV which at present sound and picture comes out of. I also have a transporter which I have Swan T200A studio monitor speakers connected to using XLR connections. I've recently been trying however to connect the audio out of the TV to the digital inputs on my transporter with a view that TV, DVD, and sound from the PC essentially goes to my transporter and plays out my Studio monitor speakers. I'm beginning to think there might be either the Transporter's digital inputs or the TV's digital outputs as I've tried connecting both the two with both and optical cable and a Coaxial RCA (input/output) and neither have worked. I've changed the Sony TV's Speaker/AV settings from TV Speaker to 'Audio System', and I've selected the relevant digital input on the transporter and pressed play (using both optical and Coaxial RCA) yet no sound seems to come out. Is there someway to diagnose whether or not the transporter's digital inputs are working correctly without sending it away for repairs? Living in Australia I'm not sure how one goes about getting Slim Devices/Logitech products repaired, plus as I bought it in 2006 I doubt it's under warranty. It's possible that it could be the TV at fault (but I tried to connect the DVD directly to the Transporter as a control test, to see if any sound came out but again it did not work. There's also probably a substantial possibility that it's actually me, and not the equipment, that's doing something wrong or that Iv'e over looked (My knowledge of Audio is very basic) I was hoping someone out there might be able to identify what i've done wrong or know how I might be able to fix things. Sorry if similar questions have been answered before. Re: [slim] Problem with playlists (itunes) not updating in SBS
I have the same problem. I can make a new playlist from a selection in iTunes but Squeezebox Server can't seem to find it. It finds the iTunes DJ playlist but not a custom made one. Trying to Export playlist... from within iTunes does no good either. Exporting gives me two options, text and XML. When I export a playlist to either of these formats then change the settings in SBS to the folder where I've exported the playlists to, it still can't find them. When I leave the playlist folder in SBS settings blank (what I understand to be "iTunes mode"), it still can't find it. As far as I know, that's the important stuff and the crux of the problem. Re: [slim] Cant connect sqeezebox receiver
Normally you need an SB Controller (SBC) to configure the SB Receiver (SBR). You can't use the SB3/Classic remote control because the SBR has no infrared remote support. However, there is a 3rd party tool (Net::UDAP) that will allow you to configure the SBR without an SBC. Check out this thread for instructions, etc: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57861. I've never used it, but many say that even though it looks daunting to a lot of people, it isn't really that difficult to use. Hi, I have an established Sqeezebox "classic" which is working fine. I recently bought an additional receiver to deliver music to another room, and hopefully sync with the classic. However I can't seem to pick up the receiver? The instructions seem to suggest that I need a Duet as a "Sqeezebox Controller" to identify and connect the new receiver. While doing some further digging I came across 'this thread on the Hydrogen Audio forums' (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t69836.html) that indicates at least some of the MP3s Amazon is selling were encoded from lossy source material. And even worse, that at least some albums have 2-second gaps introduced, like the kind you get with poorly designed/configured CD burning software. (The relevant part is almost halfway into that long thread. To skip over the AAC vs MP3 discussion at the beginning of that thread search for "gapless" and start reading from there.) So far I've only bought single tracks from Amazon's MP3 store, so gapless hasn't been an issue. Hello, apologies for coming to this discussion late, but I've had a similar problem - and a solution (at least for me). I have an iMac and a very large music collection, held in iTunes (multiple libraries) and many ALAC files. I run SBS on a ReadyNAS and the transcoding involved in playing ALAC was beginning to cause stutters etc, so I decided to re-rip most of my ALAC to FLAC. As I'm playing my music via SBS (Duet) I rarely use iTunes as a player (apart from previewing etc.) but I do like its database functions - I can see what music I have and find it quicker in iTunes than via my Duet control (or SBS web interface) - and I like iTunes' tagging (though I also use Media Rage). The obvious problem in converting my ALAC to FLAC was iTunes - and then I found Fluke: http://blowintopieces.com/blog/2008/05/15/fluke-play-flacs-in-itunes/ The latest beta installed fine in Snow Leopard and it works (for me) a treat. My workflow, for FLAC files, is: rip via Max, apply REPLAYGAIN via metaflac (command line .. but it's easy), tag via Jaikoz (it's a bit clunky but works well), import to iTunes via Fluke (select all files and File > Open With > Fluke). It imports quickly, and my FLAC files are visible, playable and taggable in iTunes. I may have to correct a couple of missing tags and Fluke doesn't handle artwork - but I can add artwork via Fluke (visible on my Duet control) and if I want artwork in iTunes I use iTunes' Get Album Artwork (it works in 90% of cases). This may not work for everyone .. but it does for me. -- spiffin spiffin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21517 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73445 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] "Album Artist" sort
I wish mine did that, but instead it shows the "Artist" tag. Album Artist is much preferred for genres such as classical, where one typically uses Artist=Composer e.g. Verdi, but the Album Artist is the performer e.g. Cecilia Bartoli -- apn apn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35030 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73912 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

So, would you prefer that no recoverable decoder errors be displayed unless debugging is enabled? I normally run SS with -Ysqueezeslave.log so nothing overwrites the display and I can still check the file for "errors" but it seems that it would be better to not report them under normal usage. -- ralphy ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SB 3 dead
Could anyone post some suggestions on the best way to remove the old card? The wireless NIC is jammed in pretty tight between the mainboard and the top of the SB3. I'd like to make sure I perform the surgery correctly as to not break anything during the process. Quite new to this whole repair thing.. [slim] Love my squeezeboxes
just wanted to let you know :-D Bought my first squeezebox (Duet) 2 years ago. I really hated it the first 3 months because of connectivity problems, but stuck with it and got it sorted. Turned out it was caused by a bad combination of Vista (pre SP1) and old router firmware. The laptop lost connection to the router and I kept blaming the squeezebox (sorry!). Finally moved to XP and new router firmware and everything was fine. Since then I have changed router twice (new ISP) and had no problems what so ever :-) (I use plain DHCP with reserved IP's) The squeezebox software keps improving and I've bought 2 Booms and a classic last year. I love the new interface on the controller. I love being able to control the players from my computers (webinterface) I love the multitude of plug-ins. I love the flexibility of the whole system. I love the wave of new products (Boom, Radio, Touch, what's next?). I love that "old" products keep improving through the software, features etc. And maybe best of all: I love the active community, always a lot of helpfull people - Thank You all! I feel confident in my choice of streaming technology, that I won't be stuck with unsupported discontinued hardware. If (god forbid) that should happen one day, I'm sure the community of developers would come to the rescue :-) I'm looking forward to future products, services and features from Logitech, keep up the good work! Thanks, NR Yes, I would like to know where to get one and the card number etc. for the future and how to actually replace the card. Is it difficult? How often do they fail? Doesn't Logitech do repairs?
