That's an ancient article (2007) about a few specific chipsets from before 802.11n was even finalized. It demonstrates limitations of the specific, poor router and/or client chipsets -- not necessarily the 802.11n spec. That's my reading of it, anyways. Also, the 50-80% penalty is only when WEP is used. Using WPA2, even with those old routers it is considerably faster, but again this boils down to bad implementations. Since the ReadyNAS seems to have a non default SBS MySQL installation also look for the file /etc/my.cnf as indicated on the link above. If you have modified the MySQL config file, restart the readynas en use the Test button from ACC to check if remote access is possible. It sounds to me like you will be close enough to the device to perceive the separation of the stereo channels, so the Boom would be a good choice. Had a quick look at the file you submitted with the bug and notice that it contains both ID3v2.4 -and- APEv2 tags. APE tags on MP3 files have caused problems in the past to the SBS scanner. It might be worth trying to remove these (MP3Tag or Foobar2000 are free programs that easily allow you to remove just the APE tags while keeping the ID3 tags). Of course, if you have other MP3 files with both kinds of tag that are not causing issues, then I'm talking through my hat, and you can just ignore this! -- goharbourview123 goharbourview123's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23031 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76916 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] outdoor speaker recommendations?
Thanks for the replies. I decided to start on the lower end of the budget and went with the Polk Atrium 45. Installed them over the weekend and listened to them for a few hours and I'm quite pleased. Obviously this isn't a critical listening situation, what with the ambient semi-urban noise of cars, lawn mowers, helicopters, etc. But great for background music or casual listening at volumes that won't bother the neighbors. If anyone else is thinking along these lines, I should say that the AudioSource AMP100 may be a little underpowered for the Atrium 45 speakers. I know that outdoor speakers tend to sound soft because you're not containing the sound within a room, but even on my tests of the system indoors I had to crank the amp's volume more than I expected to get a decent volume level (especially compared to using the same model amp with 2 pairs of Polk RC60i speakers in my kitchen). It's good enough for the volume levels I've needed so far, but it wouldn't stand up to an outdoor dance party. I'll try a different amp at some point to compare. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76563 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Since the Squeezebox implementation only supports the Last.fm Radio service (which is unaffected by the new changes) and has never supported the on-demand streaming service - I'd be surprised if anything changes in the short term for Squeezebox users. Re: [slim] Internet Radio on the SB3: can I filter on sound quality?
I second ShoutCast. :) Use ShoutCast settings to easily seek out many of the higher bitrate streams: SBS > My Apps > ShoutCast > Settings > - Station Sort Order > *highest bitrate* - Bitrate Filtering > *192k* You can also set the above ShoutCast settings on MySB > Remote Control > ShoutCast > Settings > Now any Search or Genre you choose within ShoutCast will only result in streams 192k or higher (or say 128k if you chose 128k as your limit) This will also filter out most of the many duplicate streams (same stream offered in four different bitrates) But there are draw backs to this Bitrate Filtering: - greatly reduces results (number of stations) for Searches & Genres - many Searches and Genres will have zero results - AAC files will not show up as few (if any) are at such high bitrates ex: a 64k AAC stream is basically equal in audio quality to a 128k MP3 or WMA stream -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77258 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm in a similar situation. I have a big old MP3 collection, and a new, smaller FLAC collection.
