Empty target milestones are fine (and recommended!).

There just were other tickets with a higher priority for me.
But as it should be relatively easy to implement, I'll take a look now.

[slim] Last.fm - what mods are possible?

2010-06-22 Thread MCG555

Hi all,
last.fm is really a great invention, but it would become even better if
I could defien some preferences. Maybe I could but the user interface of
last.fm is not really obvious...

1. Can I define somewhere how often a specific song should be
repeated?
2. Can I restrict the scrobbeling to a specific genre or so? And if,
how?

Thanks :-)

I think there is a setting to not scrobble Internet Radio streams but I

[slim] New owner questions

2010-06-22 Thread firegrip

As a new owner, I am mostly pleased with the Squeezebox. However, there
are a few items that really need to be addressed.
1)The line out jack should be switchable. If i wish to use my ipod with
it, I should be able to leave the cord plugged in, and switch it when I
want to!
2)The headset jack should have a setting to make it fixed line level
from varible level, so that you can hook it up to your stereo with out
having to adjust the volume on the unit.
3)When choosing a channel it should begin playing immeadiately, not
have to push play.
4)Logitec HAS TO put in the information for the unit; REQUIRES SIRIUS
PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION! You have known about this for sometime now, it is
deceptive to leave it off. It was one of the main reasons I purchased
the unit.

 radiotime or squeezeserver problem ??

Yes, very likely a RadioTime issue. Email them, they are great at
being responsive to such inquiries.
Make it clear to them that the station DOES play from the SB menu's,
but it is playing the WRONG stream. ;)

I just used WinAmp to obtain the alternate streams.
1. ShoutCast within WinAmp, simple search for 181.fm
2. Selected the 128k feed from 181's web site (not the web player)
which plays on WinAmp (or whatever software player program you use)

Then you simply click on the now playing info within WinAmp and the
URL's are revealed.

Re: [slim] New owner questions

2010-06-22 Thread garym

What sort of SB player do you have. Are you using mysqueezebox.com or
your own local squeezeboxxerver installed on your own computer? Some of
what you want is possible with settings adjusted. On a BOOM, you can
use the menu to switch between your ipod input and the internet (and by
the way, the whole point of the SB players/system is that you can have
all your music play through the SB WITHOUT using your ipod). Why use
headphone out to stereo when you can use line out? And in any case you
can set volume to be variable (adjustable by remote or menu on player).
This is one of your player settings. I think there is also a setting
about resuming play on power-on, etc. I think you need to fully
explore all the menu items and settings. I suspect you can set it up to
do what you are asking.

SIRIUS/XM Satellite Radio. Don't know, but evidently, one needs the
premium subscription to listen to the Sirius app on the Squeezebox.
Perhaps another SIRIUS user can chime in.

I have XM Radio, and use the SB XM App. I'm not sure I have to have the
premium subscription to make it work on SB, but I do have it so that I
can have higher bitrate streams.

3. There are a number of different ways to get a station to play
besides the Play button. But these vary by player model.
4. Sirius Premium requirement is quite clear on the Sirius App
description on MySB. I presume you mean this should be better spelled
out on the box and marketing literature?
If this is absent, I agree it should be made more obvious.

However, from Sirius' own site:
http://www.sirius.com/siriusinternetradio

Internet Radio for current Sirius subscribers:
Upgrade to PREMIUM SIRIUS Internet Radio near CD quality sound (128K)
for only $2.99 mo

As suggested, knowing which SB player you purchased may help in
resolving your other issues. ;)

[slim] Player Sync Questions

2010-06-22 Thread TechHome

I recently grew my SB family in a big way from a single SB2 to:

1x SB2, 4x SBv3/classic 1x SB Radio

For control, we use iPeng, the web UI and IR remotes.

For player sync/un-sync, iPeng is great. The iPeng UI is intuitive and
well designed for multi-zone usage.

Typically, we like to have 2 or 3 of these players synced. While iPeng
works great, the Web UI is by comparison, nearly unusable, unless I'm
missing something. I am able to sync un-sync 2-players pretty easily
from the web UI, but to sync a 3rd player is a chore, requiring
launching the Settings screen and way too many steps to get 3-players
synced. Is there an easier way?

Also, I currently have no way to sync, un-sync, switch or control
volume of other players using the classic IR remote. I've done some
browsing of the forums and have read about Other Players, SyncOptions
Synchronizer; but haven't tried any of them yet. I think I'll start with
Other Players.

Any recommendations from others that have been down this road ahead of
me? I have to say, I'm disappointed that there is not a much more
elegant solution built into all the default UI's. IMO, squeezebox is
superior to SONOS in so many ways, but I must admit that SONOS
currently has SB beat, hands-down, in the handling of multi-zone
applications, excepting iPeng, of course.

Doug

Re: [slim] Player Sync Questions

2010-06-22 Thread aubuti

I'm not home right now so this is from memory, but here are the basic
responses:

Sync/unsync with the IR remote is straightforward: Settings
Synchronize [choose player]. Unfortunately I don't remember which
direction that sync works because I don't use that method often any
more (I prefer The Synchronizer, see below). But try it and it will
become obvious.

Via the web ui, you should be able to select the 3rd player you want to
add from the drop-down on the upper-right, and then go to sync (same
drop-down menu) and add it to the other 2 that are sync'd.

Plugins: I like The Synchronizer. I have defined several sync-groups
that make sense given the way our house is laid out and how we use our
SBs. Each group has a master and one or more players sync'd to it, so
it's clear which playlist will get picked up when I sync them. For the
shorthand names of the sync group I put the master player's name first
and in uppercase, with other player names following in lowercase or
mixed case. The Synchronizer's setup pages aren't works of art, but
they are fully functional -- it's less complicated than it looks.
Disclaimer: 99.9% of the time that I use The Synchronizer it is with
the SB Controller, which I notice you don't have. I don't know how
smoothly choosing a sync group works with the IR remote or web ui, but
I expect it's fairly smooth.

Personally I always prefer to control volume from within the room where
the music is playing, but for controlling volume of another player via
the IR remote you should look at the Other Players plugin. As you are
probably aware you can sync the volume level of all players (ie, they
all go up and down together) via the standard settings. And SyncOptions
gives you the possibility of sync'ing volume but with different base
levels for different players.

Re: [slim] Player Sync Questions

2010-06-22 Thread tcutting

As aubuti mentions, the standard sync is accessed on old style players
(SB2, SB3, Boom) from the Settings/Synchronize menu. I find it works
best by going to the player you want to add to a group of
synchronized players. For example, if player1 and player2 are already
synchronized, and you want to add player3 to the group, do the setting
from player3 and it will synchronize to the other players. It of
course works for syncing two players as well... if player1 is already
playing the playlist you want to synchronize to, then synchronize FROM
player2 and it will pick-up player1's playlist.

Via the web ui, you should be able to select the 3rd player you want to
add from the drop-down on the upper-right, and then go to sync (same

tips I'll try em when I get home. Regarding the
WebUI, I am unable to select more than 1-player to sync with; selecting
a 2nd player de-selects the 1st, click n drag, holding shift and/or
control didn't help. After I sync 2-players then go back to the drop
down to add a 3rd player to the sync group it creates drops one of the
previously synced players and again creates a 2-player sync group.

By opening a settings window, I was able to sync all 6-players, but it
took many steps was not intuitive at all.

Agreed.

BTW, I read a few days ago in this forum (may be DIY, rather ?) about a
really nice looking electronic frame hack. I confess having bought the
$30 ipad stand, and its only usage is when I run the iPad in picture
mode, which is not often. (*)
Would you consider adding some sort of cover mode, devoid of any
controls ? (Not of the highest priority, I guess)

(*) For those interested, the iPad dock is *not* compatible with the
Apple iPad case (the black microfiber sleeve). The sleeve's seams
protrude and you can't plug the iPad in the dock... The sleeve is a
tight fit, so you don't want to take the iPad in and out of it just to
use the dock. Just buy one or the other...

[slim] SB2 fails to connect to server

2010-06-22 Thread tloden

I have tried virtually every permutation of installing, re-installing,
rebooting, upgrading the SB server, downgrading the SB server (I'm now
on 7.5.1), rebooting my SB2, rebooting my wifi router, rebooting my
wifi repeater, unplugging my wifi repeater and STILL my SB2 cannot
connect.

I'm running W2K.

Why can't I just specific the IP address of the SB2 to the server?

It CAN'T be this hard.

[FYI - The last time I upgraded to 7.5.1, it just magically worked ...
after 8 hours.]

I've tried snooping the wifi packets with Wireshark, but there's
nothing obviously wrong. There's a heap-o-mysqueezebox.com traffic
(which I don't care about.

I do see an ARP request from my SB2 for the Who has ... for the IP of
my server.

Could this be an ARP / W2K issue

What gets me is that it SOMETIMES works.

Because the server does not initiate connections to clients: the
clients initiate a connection to the server.

You can, if you want, specify the settings of the SB2 (ie, IP, netmask,
gateway, and the IP of the srever) by holding the left arrow until you
get to the network setup screen.

I do see an ARP request from my SB2 for the Who has ... for the IP of
 my server.

if the server never answers that, then that is your problem: have some
sort of firewall installed like ZoneAlarm? is your server on a vpn?

If your server hides from the SB2, then, well, the sb2 even with the
correct ip will not be able to connect to your server.

Re: [slim] Player Sync Questions

2010-06-22 Thread aubuti

Okay, here's one way to do it with the web ui. Let's say you want to
sync your SB2, Radio, and one of the SB3s, which we'll call SB3a. Let's
also say that's exactly what the players are named (SB2, Radio, SB3a).
The drop-down menu I refer to is the player drop-down menu in the
upper-right side of the default skin, just to the left of the Logi
logo.

1. click the drop-down menu and choose SB2
2. click the drop-down menu, choose Synchronize (bottom of list)
3. from Synchronize window, choose Radio, and click the Synchronize
button
Now the SB2 and the Radio are sync'd

4. click the drop-down menu and choose SB3a
5. click the drop-down menu and choose Synchronize
6. from Synchronize window, choose SB2,Radio and click the
Synchronize button
Now all 3 players are sync'd. Because of the order they were added, I
am pretty sure that they will have all inherited the playlist from
SB3a.

To un-sync, go back to the drop-down, choose Synchronize, then select
No Synchronization and press the Synchronize button (I know, a bit
extra-counterintuitive there). That only takes the active player (ie,
the one showing in the drop-down menu before you click it) out of the
sync, the other two players are still sync'd. To un-sync them, make one
of them active and then un-sync it.

Intuitive? Not at all. Honestly, it used to be easier before the SB
Controller came on the scene. Then things got more complicated about
whether it was a push sync or a pull sync, or whatever terminology
you want to use, and it got harder to be consistent across devices. Now
it's a bit puzzling for a lot of users, and I'm not sure it's any more
consistent across devices. I haven't used iPeng, but I hear the
interface for sync is brilliant, and I've seen the Sonos video, which
also looks good. But until I get an iThing (not happening soon), I'll
stick with The Synchronizer.

Good luck.

Re: [slim] Player Sync Questions

2010-06-22 Thread TechHome

Thanks for the detailed instructions. It does work, but as you say, it
is not intuitive.

I love iPeng. It's support of multizone synced or not is best I've
seen from all the control options. The only negative I can think of is
that when the iPod touch/iPhone goes to sleep it drops the connection
and takes a swipe and a couple of seconds to re-connect. A minor
annoyance when we need to mute the music to answer the phone. Pippen
did include an option to keep the device awake and connected, but this
will greatly increase battery drain.

I installed other players this evening and its quite nice for
controlling all players from the SB2/3 native interface.
Unfortunately, it doesn't affect/improve/fix the Web interface. I'll
go ahead an install The Synchronizer.

The Squeezebox team should try n give this some attention and deliver
an intuitive and consistent sync feature for all interfaces
