Only one caveat hopefully DeeJayRy's remote broke while he was on never version of ss/sc/sbs the older firmware does not have the auto-upgrade option. And no possibility to upgrade to never versions as you must have "brightness" button. Is the transporter ir remote still avaliable ? it should have brightness. Re: [slim] Replaced mini WIFI card...and nothing
If you don't mind a second box in your hifi stack, you could just buy a dd-wrt capable router (like 'this one' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320026&cm_re=asus_dd-wrt-_-33-320-026-_-Product) for $30). Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
The Brightness button is used for firmware updates on the SB2/SB3/Classic. If you don't manage to repair your SB3/Classic remote, then you should set the SB to update firmware automatically. You can do this (after you get a functioning remote) by holding down the left arrow key for ~5 seconds until you get into the basic player firmware menu. It should be as easy as finding the directory/folder that iTunes uses and copying it over to the USB drive. If you look in the iTunes settings it will tell you which directory it's using for music. Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
One option would be the remote for the Touch. It's more similar in size/functionality to the SB3 remote. The Touch remote, I believe does NOT have the brightness button, which I think is used to re-initialize the SB3 if required (don't remember the process). How "broken" is your SB3 remote? There is a known issue with the connection between the IR transmiter and the circuit board which can usually be repaired by re-flowing the solder connection at those locations. -- tcutting tcutting's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17402 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=8 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch you can install the iPeng app for $10 and it makes a great remote/controller for any Squeezebox. Alternatively, consider getting the infrared remote for the SB Touch. It's smaller than the original SB3/Classic remote and doesn't have all the same buttons (no Brightness button or 1-2 others), but the big advantage over the Boom remote is that has alphanumeric keys just like your old SB3/Classic remote. Those keys are great for jumping to specific artists, albums, tracks, etc. And the Touch remote is only a little more expensive than the Boom remote. Finally, your old remote may be fixable -- it depends how you broke it. Often the connection for the emitter gets broken, but it can be fixed with a soldering gun and a steady hand. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=8 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
i've broken the remote for my SB classic and have been told by logitech support that a replacement remote is not available so i'd like some help evaluating the options i have for controlling my SB. Or the harmony controlers, how do they perform? i guess £60-80 is a reasonable price. Why turn the Squeezebox off, why not just pause it? The amount of power it uses is nothing compared to what a business uses. And when you say Off, do you mean Standby or are you pulling the plug? Because if you are not pulling the plug, its not really off anyway. [slim] No audio or playback after power down
Dear Forum At "my" club we have a squeezebox network running music at a number of bars. There is a slimserver running the music - upgraded to the latest available version, plus a number of the "original" slimdevices, one in each bar. All slimdevices are upgraded to firmware version 130. We maintain seperate playlists for each unit, so there is no sync going on between any of the devices. We need to power of the bars at night, and as such we turn off the power for the slimdevices - while the server will remain on as it is located in the always on server room. All of this is working very well, except for one problem.. When connecting a slimdevice, while there is no playlist running, will easily connect to the server, and when a playlist is selected the music will start to play, just as one would expect. Problem however is, that while the slimdevice is turned off this playlist keeps playing, and when we turn back on the slimdevice the next day upon opening the bar, the slimdevice will find the server, and display the song currently playing in the playlist, but playback never starts.. The slimdevice will display the song in the playlist, and appear to be at the very start of the song, but not start to play it, while the son actually plays on the server.. The remedy is to pause the playlist, select the next song in the list and press play, then the audio will start again.. This is however not an ideal solution, as we would very much like to have the slimdevices play music without user interaction. I've tried changing the settings for how the slimdevice behaves when the power is off, but this seems to only have effect if you from the slimserver select to turn off the slimdevice, and not when the device is turned off by manually switching the power.. I've been trying to find a thread about this in this forum without much success and now hope for some wise person to come to my rescue.. You can find some pretty good prices on docks at dealextreme http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.31705 I'm currently using this one with an ipod touch 2g and a 1g (both can be found used for under $100) I did have to use a dremmel tool to make the ipods fit in this dock since it's designed for a iphone which is a little different size, however that site offers docks that will work without modifications, I just needed on that shape and size to mount on the wall. -- zimmer62 zimmer62's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38140 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79960 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Issue with new router and SB3
In my OP i stated; 'However, I have since noticed one annoying feature of my new environment. In the past the SB3 would only show the message "Can't connect to server:" ONCE ONLY when the server was shut down, went into standbye or hibernation, or if wireless dropped. Now I have a situation where when the server is off or in standbye or hibernation the message is displayed every 5 minutes (I've timed it). It looks like something is polling it at this interval.' By the above I meant that 'in the past' when the player was connected to the m/c running the SB server and BEFORE I changed my router I only got the message as the m/c changed state. After changing the router I get it every 5 mins. Your solution stops this happening (for which I am very grateful) BUT not by fixing the issue I related in the OP. I would like to understand this just because it annoys me that something is happening for which I do not have an explanation. -- russelc russelc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79717 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Mini Stick-On IR Emmiter
Does it have a small (3.5mm?) mini plug on the other end from the emitter? If so, and if your SB supports the IR Blaster plugin then you can use the cable and plugins to send infrared remote commands to another device. You would stick the mini-plug in the SB's headphone jack, and position the IR emitter over the IR window on the other device. A typical application is to control the on/off and volume on your amplifier, using only the SB's infrared remote. As far as I know, only the "older" SBs (SB, SB2, SB3/Classic, Boom, Transporter) support the IR Blaster plugin. The Duet Receiver definitely doesn't because it doesn't have an IR receiver or a headphone jack. The Touch has some IR capabilities, but they are more limited than the SB3/Classic, so they would require a different plugin. I'm not sure about the Radio's IR capabilities, but they are probably equal to or less than the Touch's. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79975 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Mini Stick-On IR Emmiter
When I purchased my Squeezebox online I also bought a mini stick-on IR emitter (single head). I assumed I needed it when I bought my system. I have never used it. Can someone tell me when and how I would use this piece of equipment? Thanks. ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
The problem appears to be related to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player as noted in this link https://forum.reciva.com/read.php?3,63319,63319 I can confirm that by removing the latest Flash version my install of DSBridge works again. This appears to only be an issue for XP users. However, I cannot figure out from the above link what I need to do to re-install a previous version of Flash and I don't have any more time now to spend on it. If someone can figure this out I would appreciate an idiots guide to reinstalling the suggested previous Flash version 10,0,45,2. Anyway I hope this helps anyone struggling with this issue. -- russelc russelc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Using ipod touch as remote control ........
I'm a long-time Squeezebox Controller user, but since my daughter has an iPod Touch, I asked her to install iPeng out of curiosity. She did the download/install, so I can't comment on how easy it was, but suffice to say that within about 5 mins of me asking her to get it, iPeng was ready to use. The first thing to say about iPeng is that it pops up numerous tutorials when you first start using it. This is a good sign - clearly there is a lot of assistance available right inside the app. But being male, of course I simply dismissed these tutorials after a very cursory scan and started playing. Reading instructions is the last resort for us blokes. Within a few minutes I was controlling the three Squeezeboxes around the house, grouping/ungrouping them, synchronising, etc. The interface on iPeng really is very good. On the basis of playing with iPeng for a few minutes, I'd say that it's a much better interface than the Controller. There are two downsides to iPeng... Firstly, I found the location accuracy of touches on icons to be a bit hit-and-miss. My overall feeling was that there are too many small icons close together, and it's easy to get the wrong one. Temper that observation with the fact that I'm a novice iTouch user - perhaps with more experience using the device my touches would be better controlled. (And in any case, a similar criticism can be made of the Controller with regard to "wheel overshoot"). Secondly (and this is a predicted downside rather than an observed one), keeping the Controller battery charged is convenient. When not in use, you just drop it in the cradle and it's always charged and ready for use. With an iTouch you'd need to remember to hook it up to a charger at appropriate times. I get the feeling that it would be easy to forget and find that when you come to use iPeng the iTouch is out of juice. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79960 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
