Thanks for the reply . However those actions are also the actions I
performed but there are still no playlists showing in WIN 7 squeexebox
web screen , in spite of having these playlists in iTunes.

Not only do I not have any playlists , there is no Playlist Folder in
the iTunes Installation Folder.
All this has only happened since I changed over to WIN 7 from XP. In XP
there was no problem with Playlists.

No you need to install VortexBox from a CDROM.

Re: [slim] Sirius issue with more than one unit synced

2010-09-10 Thread toby10

Yeah, wild guess is that when using MySB.com then Sirius sees each
player as a "login", two such logins might be prohibited.
Again, just a guess.

I think the same is true with Last.fm, cannot sync players via MySB but
you can using SBS.

A long time ago there was an issue with Slacker where your SB player
would get disconnected if you were logged into your Slacker account on
your computer. But this was fixed.

[slim] Any jazz music lovers ?

2010-09-10 Thread erland

Is there any jazz (or classical) music lovers here that also have some
kind of developer background ?

I'm asking because I'd like to get in contact with people who:
- Love their Squeezebox
- Have good knowledge about jazz (or classical) music
- Know how to read UML domain models, database models and other UML
diagrams
- Is interesting in contributing a few hours per week to create
something as an open source community effort to make the Squeezebox the
best music discovery device available
- Development experience (in any language) is a plus.
- If you have professional experience as developer (in any language)
that's an extra plus.

At the moment I want to primarily find a jazz specialist who can help
with domain modeling and help analyzing what functions that's needed.
We already have people with classical music knowledge in the project,
but if some classical music lover finds this interesting and want to
participate, let me know. If you feel this is interesting but can't
offer as much as a few hours per week, let me know anyway.

Send me a PM or mail if you feel that this might be you, if you use
mail specify your forum account id in the mail so I know who you are.
Also, please let me know a bit about your background.

If you know someone else you think might be interested or have the
right experience, send me a PM or mail with the account id/e-mail to
the person.

We only need one or possibly a few persons at the moment, but
eventually we are going to need alpha testers and then everyone who has
indicated their interest will of course be welcome to participate. If
you just want to indicate that you are interested in participating in
alpha/beta testing, reply to the thread and we will make sure you are
notified when we reach that stage.

So, is there anyone that wants to be part of this ?

Check the other MOG thread, but I think its subjective. Biggest thing I

Others like that a premium account gives one both Internet streaming

Is that better, I don't know.

I have both connecting to MySqueezebox.com
I'll try switching them. thanks, i bet that will fix it.

I've been looking around the forums and it seems the lag is a common

I understand this sentiment entirely - Apple and iTunes design things
that the average user can pick up easily, hence the massive sales of
iPods & iPhones over the last 10 years, I'm not a big apple user or fan
but I understand this is one of their quality's.

In terms of SB I think the generation of 'smart' playlists is a gap,
however erlands plugins do overcome them but the general SB interface
isn't as user friendly as iTunes and so lends itself to be 'geeky'

However I think the Touch interface is great and iPeng compliments it
very well, to the extend that my girlfriend is happy to use it. I set
up the dynamic playlists that we listen to, this centers around rating
songs and having top rated dynamic playlists

Re: [slim] Apple's Airplay coming soon...

2010-09-10 Thread goody

My two cents on this: Apple entering your market is never good. There
are millions of iphones, ipad, and ipods that will be capable of
streaming content. If they license airplay to 3rd party manufacturers,
there will be hundreds of devices that they could stream to. Just look
at how many ipod docks there are out there!

The starting point is a $99 apple tv to start streaming to my home
theater system; typically the best audio setup in a house and located
in a main area. Also, lets say i own an iphone and go to buy a new
audio component, it will be logical for me to choose one with streaming
from a device i own. Also remember the mass market are not audiophiles,
so simple streaming from a device they already own makes sense. I also
read in one of those articles that synch between multiple devices will
be supported.

All of that is not good for sb as we know it. It will not be priced
competitvely or have the simplicity that the mass market will demand.
So what do you do if you are logitech? You team up with google and
google tv.

I think there is a reason that you cannot buy a receiver anywhere in
the U.S. I also think moving the Touch to be logitech exclusive are
both signs of the direction we are heading. Logitech are focusing there
resources elsewhere. Lets face it, a $300 touch as just a music
streamer is no longer relative against an ipod/airplay combo where
pricing will start around the same but is capable of so much more
(apps, movies, ebooks, portability etc). Plus people will already be
invested with their idevice.

My theory is that logitech is no longer focused on squeezebox devices,
but on google tv and that in the next few weeks we will hear an
announcement that it will ship before the holidays. It will be the
streaming device of choice. I dont think that is the death of sb or
that we all will have to leave our devices behind, but that the sb
ecosystem will be integrated and rolled into google tv. Im sure that
google/android wants the same features as wellthink what happens if
all android devices becone logitech streamers!

This is all just a theory and im not hating on sb. I still love my
setup, but just really curious as to what the future holds.

I just tested it on a NOKIA N8, and I would say it works quite nice.
Should also work on N900.

Re: [slim] Problem printing text on Squeezebox with RSS

2010-09-10 Thread robni

I still have this problem but I can't come up with anything good to try.
Sometimes it works just perfect, but most of the time the SB just show
the text for 1-2 seconds and then it's back to the RSS feed.

I started with this small caller id project the same time as I upgraded
to Squeezebox Server 7.5.1 on RedHat.

One other thing I've noticed is that it sometimes can be really hard to
"stop" the RSS when I want to go into the menues. I sometime have to
press [Play] button several times before it actually starts. Maybe this
has something to do with RSS?

Thoughts?

Unless you are Factory Resetting the players you should not have to
reenter your MySB login info onto each player beyond initial setup.
No MySB account is even needed if using your local SBS and using the
Internet Radio menu items.
Connecting any player directly to MySB online does indeed require a
valid MySB account on that player.

The older players (SB3 & Boom), and I believe the Receiver, would
"auto-register" themselves onto MySB by simply adding your MySB login
info onto SBS then connecting those players to SBS. Unfortunately the
newer players (Touch & Radio) cannot do this and must be registered
independently.

Are you using a local instance of SBS on your computer to Sync these

Or are you only connecting the players to MySqueezeBox.com?

When Synced:
- Using SBS one stream is "shared" with the players.

Whether this functions like this for Sirius I don't know.
