Re: [slim] Touch - exclusive to Logitech website?

2010-09-17 Thread jean2

To continue on the theme "it does not make sense whatsoever".

The Touch is still listed on logitech.com (USA) as "Exclusive" for
$299. And it is now available on featured Amazon affiliates (USA) for
$329 or more, and various other affiliates as low as $259.

In other words, don't take all of this too seriously...

Re: [slim] Any jazz music lovers ?

2010-09-17 Thread erland

Let's try a bit different approach since it seems to be hard to find
people that know both jazz and and have experience reading UML/data
models.

Maybe anyone that knows jazz can just give me some idea how you would
like to discover/browse jazz music in your library. My feeling is that
it's a bit different compared to pop/rock and classical music.

My thinking is:
1.
When browsing pop/rock music the browsing is centered around finding a
song or album by a specific artist.

2.
When browsing classical music the browsing is centered more around the
composer and work and finding a specific recording of the work with a
certain conductor/soloist/orchestra.

My problem is that I don't know enough about jazz music to know what it
is centered around, I suspect the instruments, musicians and maybe the
jazz club/recording studio might be more important than in pop, rock
and classical music, but I'm only guessing. With the few jazz albums I
have in my library I don't really understand what's important, I think
you need a larger collection to understand it.

It would be great if people with jazz knowledge took some time and
tried to describe how jazz music discovery/browsing is different from
discover/browsing pop, rock and classical music. This way, you don't
have to get involved in UML/data modelling and we can still make sure
that the jazz perspective is covered.

Still, if there is someone out there with both jazz experience,
UML/domain/data modeling experience and have some spare time and is
interested in getting more involved, let me know via PM or mail.

If you like to make it easy for people to install the patch, you might

Please, let's stop this argument, everyone has to do their own choice.

If someone wants to hold on to their money, that is fine, everyone have
to choose for themselves.

I think it's important to get people to realize that compared to all
other stuff they get every day without thinking much, $10 for an app
might not be that much, but it's still their choice. We shouldn't blame
and question anyone that prefers to wait, that's their choice.

For some strange reason, many people think $50 for a piece of hardware
that doesn't change your life much is very cheap but $10 for software
that completely change your Squeezebox experience is suddenly
expensive. As a developer I have a hard time understanding this but I
also know I sometimes tend to have thoughts like this myself as a
consumer.

mortslim;577294 Wrote:

I think this is the important thing.

Most(all?) third party developers do get encouraged when someone is
willing to show them their appreciation through some economical support
or even just through some fancy words. So if you think someone has done
something great and you would love them to continue doing similar
things in the future, this might be worth a lot more than $10 to you.
Applications like iPeng and SqueezePad and other third party
plugins/applets have changed the Squeezebox experience a lot for me and
I would like all third party developers to continue doing this in the
future. Especially since the history shows that Logitech is focused on
the core functionality and most extras that makes the products shine
comes from third party developers. Compared to other iPhone/iPad apps,
$10 might seem expensive, but as I look at it I pay for the improvement
of the Squeezebox system and to encourage future development and in this
context $10 is a drop in the sea.

As and example, for $10 in Sweden I get a single meal of food on a
cheap restaurant, in comparison, a third party software that completely
changes my Squeezebox experience every day is worth a LOT more than
that. The meal of food will be forgotten next day but the third party
software and its developer will continue to change my music discovery
experience today and in the future.

Still, if some people prefer to wait and don't want to "waste" any
money on encouragement, we should accept that.

Right you are and I can't say that Windows 12 will run the version I

For what IPENG does $12.50 in Australia is a bargain.
What ever the IPAD app cost i'm sure it will also be a bargain,I will
buy an ipad purely to run IPENG as it will give me a SOOLOOS like

Power down every player and squeezebox server.
Power on SB server, wait few minutes to initialize...and power on the

Check if players are at correct/needed music source (mysqueezebox.com

That's for the beginning... :-)

I can assure you that Pippin has not quit his day job to develop his

I use the current iPeng app on the iPad and it works great. It's
sophistication far exceeds any competing apps. And I also look forward

I consider it an honor to be able to buy BOTH the current iPeng for

I'd also be interested if you get a faster reconnection if you just

On the 'disconnected'-banner there is also a small reason for the

[slim] Now Playing screen for classical music

2010-09-17 Thread Co1

I have modified the Now Playing screen for the Controller, so that it
becomes more useful for classical music.
The current two lines of text are in a lot cases not enough to show all
relevant information.
I have filed a bug http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16561 ,
with the needed patches attached.
The patches are for 7.6.0, both on the server and on Squeezeplay.
To use the Now Playing screen with classical music, the COMPOSER,
CONDUCTOR, and BAND tags are used. The various ARTIST tags should be
used for soloists.
The ALBUM tag is used to show the Work, but can also be used for a
collection of short pieces. Then the piece, and movement should be
tagged in the TITLE tag.

The patches are for the Controller only, but it should be fairly easy
to make similar modifications for the other Squeezeplay based devices.

Please vote for this bug, if you want this implemented.

Could you describe in more details how this reconnection looks like ?
Just an empty screen with 'loading players' on top.
Or an endless flashing 'disconnect/connect' loop ?

Your Squeezebox keeps on playing ?
Does it have a white connection icon when this is happening ?

The more observations, the easier possible explanations :D...

You could also activate the 'cometd'-logging on your server (see here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=564512&postcount=63).
There we could analyze any connection attempt of SqueezePad.

2010-09-17 Thread Pixelpopper

Hi congratulations

A considerable improvement, usability has improved tremendously.
The colour scheme really is much easier on the eyes.

A couple of things I am interested in:- iPad user

Is there any possibility of fitting a search button next to the home
button, so that searches can be triggered from anywhere?

A screen wide scrolling search through artwork and tap on album art to
play.

Also, I'm not sure if this is an issue with my NAS DRIVE (Synology),
iPad or squeeze pad. When playing, a whole cd for example, the link to
the nas seems to drop. When I access squeeze pad again it takes a
couple of minutes to reconnect to the nas (running squeeze server) even
though the album may only be part way through, any idea would be
welcome.

Thanks in anticipation

I'm asking the Squeezebox-Server for the resized images in 65x65. They
are the same as used on the Squeezebox-Touch.

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v3

2010-09-17 Thread Swimmerbird123

I have a problem with the way ACC displays a folder with non-consecutive
tracks in it. Let me explain:

My library is mostly classical music and I have arranged it generally
by piece rather than CD. So each piece of music, which typically has
multiple movements that are each a separate track in its separate file,
is in its own folder. Each track is still tagged with the CD name as
its album name and the tracks retain the original track numbering from
the CD, but otherwise, the CD structure is more or less ignored.

For example, a CD may contain 3 different sonatas each of which has 4
movements, but I store each sonata in its own folder, so that a folder
named "Sunshine Sonata" may contain only tracks 5,6,7 and 8 from the
original CD, and all are tagged with the CD name as the album name.

Usually ACC handles this in an appropriate way - it sees each folder as
a separate album and displays the CD name (from the album tag) as the
album name. In the example above, that yields three albums in the
catalog with the same name, but with each containing a different
sonata. That is OK for me.

My problem is that if the folder contains tracks that are numbered
non-consecutively, ACC splits the folder into multiple folders
according to the track numbers. So a single folder that contains only
tracks 10 and 12 from a CD is displayed by ACC as two albums, each with
one track, while SBS displays this correctly as one album with two
tracks. Or a folder with three consecutively numbered track and a 4th
non-consecutive track (e.g. an alternate ending for the piece) is
displayed by ACC as two albums, one with the three consecutive tracks
and one with the non-consecutive 4th, even though SBS includes all four
tracks as one album.

Is it possible for ACC to handle these situations differently, or would
I need to go in and re-tag the track numbers to get the desired tracks
treated as one album?

Thanks for a great program,
Swimmer

You can change a setting to display a number of albums, I think its
something like 75 by default so you can set to lower, not at home so
not exactly sure where the setting is

Yes, with volume fixed at 100% in e.g. SB3 or Transporter, changing the
volume sends IR command via IRBlaster to e.g. your amp or processor.
I'm not fully aware of what integration would involve.

This is a nice-to-have feature but I relalise that there will be higher
priorites. It would be nice to see it on a list to be voted on
though.

A few things:

Could you sort the player list alphabetically? I have 6 players and they
seem to be in random order now.

Are you caching the album art on the device? I like browsing the album
list, but I have to wait for the pix to come up as I scroll. I'd be
willing to sacrifice storage space to store lo res thumbnails for that
purpose. (perhaps optional) I think instant album thumbnails would be a
great improvement in the feel of the application.

Keep up the good work!

Peter

Re: [slim] Mac Sleep and Squeezebox Server

2010-09-17 Thread danco

Look at some of my posts in the Third Party Plugins forum (SvrPowerCtrl
thread) for a detailed discussion. Here's a brief account.

Essentially, the Mac will go to sleep if there is no keyboard or mouse
action and no hard drive access. Streaming internet radio means the
hard drive is not accessed so the Mac sleeps.

Solution is to use Jiggler or Caffeine (both free) which prevent sleep
when activated.

And ServerPowerControl can be set to run shell scripts, which can
easily be written to activate or de-activate your preferred one of the
two programs.

Of course, there is also the very basic approach of setting Energy
Saver to Never when streaming internet radio.
