 connectivity setup.

OK thanks for the advice. I just checked the Wi-Fi signal strength just
now and it was showing between 83-90% which seems pretty good to me.
Next time it loses the network I'll have another look.

Re: [slim] Logitech servers down in the UK again?

2011-08-29 Thread Nick_G

Actually thinking about this, I seem to recall that when this problem
occurs the Touch will often work OK when I switch to the Mac LAN,
although sometimes it still refused to connect to MySB Favourites. But
I think I could still access Favourites stored on the LAN. So I'm not
sure it's as simple as Wi-Fi issues as it uses the wireless router to
connect to the internet.

I'll test the Wi-Fi signal and also the LAN next time it happens
though.

Hello Bert003,
I use Muso on a Windows Home Server and I have no trouble with it at
all. Far from it in fact!
By installing it on the W.H.S. any computer on my home network can use
it's functionality and control the squeezebox players.
I don't get stuttering problems and of course you get the extra
information on screen, with variable searches.
You should stick with it, as it complements Squeezebox Server well.

did you also use some program like netstumbler (or equivalent for Mac)
to see what other local WIFI networks you see and what channels they
are on? Even with a strong signal, if you're on the same channel with
another strong signal you can have problems. Heck, some around here
solved their problem when they discovered a near neighbor using a baby
monitor. Mirowaves can be a problem. I know I kept loosing my WIFI
connection just because of picking up my 2.4gh wireless phone. DECT 6.0
phones solved that problem.

Also, make sure that broadcasting SSID is turned to ON (off is not any
security anyhow, it just causes problems).

Hi, As you are running Wintel, just install Spyglass from my website
and it will setup Headless for you. Ensure you have installed the
client .net framework 4 client profile, then just run Spyglass and
select the install headless option in the menus. It will then do all
the steps and will also test MIP is working correctly.

I'm assuming that you added your music into MIP and did a scan to
fingerprint your music first? You must do this first before playing
around with SBS or headless.

If you have uninstalled MIP then it wont work so well ;) When you
install MIP it will ask for a directory location of your music, so
point it at your FLAC files.

In a web browser you would enter;

http://localhost:10002/

If MusicIP is working headless you will get a web page come up.

Re: [slim] Logitech servers down in the UK again?

2011-08-29 Thread Nick_G

OK - just woke up the Touch after being on standby for several hours.
Back at the top-level menu again with 'Favourites' missing. Checked
wireless signal - showed 68% which then jumped to 80%. I can access
streams using Tunein, but not MysB Favourites. Also, it had lost the
name of the Touch and reverted to 'nil', which seems to happen every
time this glitch shows up. This is all with the Mac asleep so I'm not
using the LAN. I've unplugged the Touch again and will plug it in
boot it up shortly. I'm betting it'll be back to normal again.

So, surely if this was a wireless issue then I wouldn't be able to
access streams at all? I don't think it's as simple as some seem to
think.

[slim] SB3 - no screensaver when off all of a sudden?

Hey folks, got a Squeezebox 3 that's been working without problems. I
just noticed that when it's in the off state, there's no date/time

I have another SB3 hooked up elsewhere, that is displaying date/time.

Not sure if this is related to 7.6.1 update. Went through settings in

Time were selected in off mode.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks castalla. Your problem sounds very similar to mine, especially
the Touch reverting to 'nil'. I also don't think it's as simple as
wireless problems. If so, when nothing works via MySB, then why does
the Touch work when I connect to my LAN?

And, quelle surprise, everything back to normal after a reboot. I'm
going to see what happens when I unplug the Touch when not in use. My
guess is that it will reduce the chances of this happening again. It
seems to encourage the problem if left on standby for long periods. A
bit of a pain, but it's less of a pain than losing my Favourites or
MysB!

Left it playing a little earlier and just seen that it had gone to
Standby mode. Favourites is in the menu, but when selected: 'We could
not connect to MySqueezebox.com'. Seemed unresponsive even after
switching to my LAN. A quick reboot and it's working fine via my LAN
but it cannot access MySB. Wireless strength showing 78%.

Put computer to sleep. Tried to connect to the iMac; of course it
couldn't. So I went to Networking and told it to connect to MySB, which
it promptly did, and is now working fine again!

Very strange, and, like I said before, I don't think this is a wireless

I know that vbulletin can produce RSS feeds. But a forum or a wiki, by

I haven't found it, perhaps it doesn't exist, perhaps it's time to

Setting up a blog would be easy, the question is just if it will
improve things or make the community more scattered. I do agree that
sometimes it would be good to be able to filter out all My system
doesn't work posts and just see the various announcement threads from
Logitech, third party developers and from the hardware and DIY forum.

If there are more people feeling this is a good idea, we could probably
create something together where multiple experienced community members
helps to post news and articles. Anyone interested in contributing ?

I personally think that something that's very important to make this
work is to do it as a community and not base it on that a single
individual should do all the work. Still, I'm a little bit skeptical
regarding activities which draws people away from this forum as the
strength of this forum really is all the experienced people hanging

Actually there is, FredFredrickson did exactly this some time ago:

The problem is just that it won't work when one person do it because
then the news are written with the perspective of a single person
instead of the community as a whole.

Logitech can't do it because except from the few Logitech developers
still here, Logitech have lost all interest in this community, the main
reason this forum and wiki still exists is because of the Logitech
developers hanging around.

Hey folks, got a Squeezebox 3 that's been working without problems. I
just noticed that when it's in the off state, there's no date/time

Thanks for the link.
I stopped and restarted the server, but display was still blank. Then
hit the brightness button on remote, and voila! Works!

Re: [slim] SB3 - no screensaver when off all of a sudden?

2011-08-29 Thread aubuti

Yeah, probably that bug that Michael noted. I had forgotten about it
because it hasn't been plaguing my SBs, and until the bug appeared, the
Brightness button was the standard solution.

Re: [slim] What is purpose of #EXTURL in playlist?

You can safely delete any lines beginning with a #. These are
 comments.

SBS uses #EXTURL to be smarter, but it will regenerate it when it feels
 the urge.
In some cases, when the file name contains a backslash character, for
example, SBS would be able to load the files with the #EXTURL
information, but not without it.

Cunning. How would this work on Windows?

Windows wouldn't let you use such characters in a file name, AFAIK.
UNIX-like systems are much more tolerant in this regard, they'll let
you use quite any character.

There's an open bug report somewhere for this problem, BTW.
