Re: [slim] another computer on the network
Hi again, Thanks for all you replies. I'll try and make it clearer what I want to do.At present,I use my dektop as a server, and it's on 24/7,with all my music on the hard drive. Everything works well, but I'd like to get a sheevaplug and an external hard drive, which will be on 24/7, enabling me to free up space on my desktop and not run it 24/7. With that in mind, I thought I'd experiment by installing a server on my wifes laptop, and plugging in a spare external hd we have lying around. So... this is now done, and it's fine. I turn on a boom for example, select my wifes laptop as a music source, and all the music on that hd is there, and it plays over wifi perfectly. I have studied www.sheevaplug.de, and I reckon there's nothing to be scared of there ( although I take your point Castalla!)but if I get to the stage with the plug that I've got to now with the laptop, there's gonna be a time when I want to access the server for maintenance/plugins etc. On my dektop, I can see my wifes laptop on the network - I just don't know how to access her desktop/folders/files -- gruntwolla conservatory - classic lounge - duet plus AE5 speakers master bedroom - boom sons room - radio games room - boom squeezecommander and squeezeplayer on htc desire ipeng on other half's iphone gruntwolla's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35645 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90057 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] another computer on the network
That is all a bit clearer. So you have two issues: - access Squeezebox Server to change settings, select music, install plugins etc - access the underlying computer to access other things The first of this is done by using your webbrowser to browse to http://servername:9000/;, as I described previously. That will be the same whether you are using the laptop or the Plug as the server (except that the server name will change). The second is more complicated and what you do and how you do it will change depending on whether you are using the laptop or the Plug as the server (because they run very different operating systems from each other). On the laptop you would create Windows shares to access files from your machine. You would use the Windows Remote Desktop client to login to the laptop remotely, but that would only work if the laptop is running the Pro or Ultimate versions of Windows. On the Plug you would use its web interface to create file shares that you can access from your computer. To make more advanced changes you might need to use ssh to connect to run commandline commands on the Plug. -- andynormancx Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ? Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.0 released
I've just completed merging the empeg Mk2 / Rio Car Mk2a port from rpress into trunk. You can see a pic of squeezeslave running on the car player in 'post 193' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=638111postcount=193). It uses the same display format as the boom, very cool! The server requires a patch to support the empeg player. An empeg package and the patch are currently on 'googlecode' (http://code.google.com/p/squeezeslave/downloads/list). The changes also bring server discover support -F/--discovery to squeezeslave. For the moment it's only supported for unix based players, but I plan to include windows support eventually. I've uploaded an 'r281 windows zip' (http://squeezeslave.googlecode.com/files/squeezeslave-1.1-281-win.zip) to googlecode first as that usually gets downloaded the most and so hopefully helps test the changes a bit quicker. I'll upload linux and osx updates over the next couple days. r273 in trunk is the last revision before the empeg branch was merged. Post any issues discovered with the updates to this thread. I'd recommend against this. I had genpuid destroy some of my tags, and also version issues between MIP and genpuid. Just leave genpuid alone, go to http://localhost:10002, enter the path to your music files and have MIP discover and analyse the files. There is one thing you might want to do: specify the location for the MIP database (in mmm.ini), and backup that file from time to time. As an example, this is what I have specified in mmm.ini: cache=/var/data/audio/MusicIP/default.m3lib - Moving music files (or directories) around means a slow analysis must be performed again (since archiving within tags is risky). You'd better be pleased with your file hierarchy beforehand. - Re-analysis of moved files means the MIP DB will show a duplicate. There is a sorry way of removing duplicates (or deleted files) using MIPs web interface. I think it entails clicking add music (sic) and then refresh songs. Or the other way around. The Total Songs figure should decrease in the end. (The brute force way is to remove the MIP database file.) - Don't click Add Music without having filled the path field next to it. If you leave it empty MIP does not look for the library path it already has in its database. It simply says nothing and does nothing. Don't go wrong specifying the path or you'll add fluff to the MIP database... Hopefully web browsers will auto-complete the field for you. I will have a scan through and see just how many cASE changes there are, I can tidy them up before I start the analysis again. Thanks for your help though. -- Blisteringblue 'What am I listening to?' Hey, I got similar problems with genpuid. It corrupted even some of my mp3s (It is always good to have a backup). Currently I am using the MIP GUI under windows and archive the tags. I've never observed problems here. Afterwards I copy my music to my NAS and the headless interface scans the new files very fast without need for additional validation. -- mr_hyde 2 x Squeezebox 3 - SSOTS 4.12 - Squeezecenter 7.6.1 rc3 - QNAP TS439 Pro (3.5.0 0815) - 4 x 500 GB Hitachi (RAID5) mr_hyde's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6032 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89962 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I changed that to specifying a path for the MIP DB and backing that up from time to time. I don't move around files, only a few adds and deletes monthly so no biggie. Thanks all, I am fairly rigid too with my file paths, and I tend to just add now I'm happy with my files and tags so I will leave it do the analysis without Genpuid. Although I am tidying a few cAsE differences at the moment before I continue the MusicIP analysis and then another clean scan. [slim] how do you delete albums from Napster library?
I'm sure this was easy at one time, but now I don't see how to do it following the changes to the Napster interface that occurred in late 2010 and early 2011. I have a number of albums in my Napster library that I want to remove from the library, because either (a) I liked them enough to buy the CD, or (b) I don't like them enough to keep on my Napster shortlist. But I don't see a way to delete them: not in the SBS web ui, or the SB Controller, or the Napster site itself. Mostly because people don't have more than one server. If you do have more than one SBS, it seems you cannot play from server 2 if the players were previously playing from server 1 and server 1 is turned-off. Retarded? wrong. You can. You just have to connect the player to the second server somehow. Re: [slim] This is not a current issue
I have no problem running multiple servers, shutting them down, starting them up, connecting and disconnecting to them as I like. The only (small) inconvenience I've encountered is in the web interface, where if players are connected to one server and you shut that server down, then you can't pull players to a new server using the web UI. I believe the reason for this is that the transfer of players is between the servers themselves, so if the server with the players isn't running, then obviously the other server can't ask which players are connected to it. I don't use iPeng or a Controller, but wouldn't be surprised if they have the same issue. You can still switch between servers from the players themselves, though. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90095 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
