You don't even have to set up wireless networking. The only thing that I can think that would keep the SB3 from automatically connecting to the server is if the server has a different IP address on the new network. I'm not talking about your external IP address as assigned by your ISP, which doesn't matter. Is your internal network addressed differently than the old one? If it's on the same subnet (typically 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x), try to figure out/remember what the server's IP address was before and assign it the same address statically. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90110 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Help me figure out this problem with my server
Hmmm... in reading posts on some WHS forums, I found out about a SMART addin for WHS. I installed it, and it is reporting one of my disks having critical health (53 bad sectors) and another one potentially failing (1 bad sector). I am running a checkdsk repair overnight. I guess I will hold off on installing that USB adapter until I see if repairing, or if necessary, replacing, these disks changes the situation. I remember I replaced one of the disks at one point and it may have been why the problem went away for a while. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I thought it might be the switch so I replaced it about 2 months ago. Also swapped out the cables, but I don't have any Cat6. I will see about getting some. I found a USB Ethernet adapter I already had, so I am going to try switching to that tomorrow. [slim] Browse By Artwork missing in Classic UI 7.6.1?
Hello all, I just upgraded to Squeezebox Server 7.6.1, everything working fine. However, I use the Classic Intterface, and the "Browse By Artwork" icon on Album listings (e.g. when viewing an Artist, New Music, etc) is missing. Previously, this icon allowed you to toggle a listing of albums to display as "browse by text" or "browse by artwork". Do you think this is this a deliberate ommission in 7.6.1? Or, is the feature now available elsewhere in the UI? Or, is this a bug? Had similar thoughts while visiting the Logitech area at IFA Berlin. Btw: the former well knowledged "Squeezebox"-man which had presented all the good squeezestuff in the past was now talking about the Harmonys etc. instead. Shame on you, Logitech. And I'm afraid, Logitech will loose in both areas by the way. Smartphones and their connectivity to other media devices will exchange squeeze* and remote control* with all-in-one-control-devices like Android- and I- phones and pad/tabs in the next months. The still available advantages will fade away until Logitech is not inventing some new genoius features. I currently own a touch, a boom, a radio and 2 classics and I'm still more or less happy with it. But I could immediately switch at least in my music room to pairing my Onkyo-Receiver and the Galaxy SII in order to browse my music either on the phone/internet or on an attached harddrive and play it with the receiver. they paid for apps are much quicker as gary sugested, however some artwork processing is done by the server to give you artsizes not precached during the scan . IPeng uses some of it's own sizes too also if you turn of artwork precaching to make faster scans you pay in this end instead . as the standard sizes are not in the cache ( artwork.db ) i supose art from already played tunes will apaear faster ? also size matters reasonable sized jpg is the best compromise, bmp or png is not a god idea it craves more memory and cpu to resize, 500*500 pixels jpg seems to satisfy most users. Re: [slim] Help me figure out this problem with my server
When this happens to me, the reason is apparent. Since I have several machines and devices on two different two-hop loops (1 at 100 and the other at 1 gig,) I lose devices geographically. Normally this is caused by a switch having a brain-fart. Repeated brain-farts have been followed by hard failures for two of the three switches I've had to replace. Surge (lightning so close the phones ring) got the other one. Try to re-power the switch. Also, early 1gig ethernet was twitchy about working on cat 5. I use only cat 6 on gig loops. Some pictures of how Logitech presents their Squeezebox :( in comparison to Sonos and Philips streamium. Talked to the sales rep. about the future of Squeezebox and of course he didn't have any news regarding new models. He rather stated that 'we have anything that is needed right now with Radio and Touch'. Missing Boom was commented that one could use two Radios. Missing working touch-server was commented with that he had a ReadyNas at home which worked well. Along that he showed me the Logitech Controller App of course, to remote control one of his 'nil' Radios *aarrghhh* ... just to start a song from the local library, which didn't even have coverart *arrgg*. [slim] Logitech Squeezebox Controller app on iPad
I have been using my iPad this last few hours to setup a "Random Mix" of party music tonight, in fact the party kicked off 30 minutes ago :-) Total Tracks: 786 Total Albums: 62 Total Artists: 62 Total Genres: 5 Total Party Playing Time: 57:40:09 You can setup the Random Mix by the following : Song Mix Album Mix Artist Mix Year Mix Choose Genres I have set it to "Song Mix" and it is very basic, it just takes the first album and track 1, then second album, track 2, third album track 3, so yes it is random, but logical random, not all the over the place random, no matter it is doing the job of a DJ better than me :-) you can toggle between all the mixes and it works really well, but I have left it at "Song Mix" am only on the tenth track in and it takes over 10 or 20 seconds for the cover art to appear on the iPad, and this is with the iPad 1 metre away from the Netgear DG834GT router with a super strong signal, so the fact that is takes so long for artwork to appear does not bode well ! also, a track finishes playing on the speakers, but it is still showing 20 to 30 seconds to go on the iPad, the new track starts playing on the speakers, but the iPad is way behind refreshing with track info and cover artwork, this is poor programming, as easy to spot this type of lag I would have thought at the software quality control stage. just a little bit of stuttering going on though, only at the beginning of a track, and only 1 in 10 tunes, but watching it closely tonight In its defence, all the Tag information is displayable and works super, these are WAV files as well, so just by clicking on the Artist name above the artwork gives you all the Album info, and "Show Artwork" brings you back to the player "More Info" brings up the track number, file format, Duration, Bitrate 1411 CBR, Sample Rate 44.1 kHz, Sample Size 16 bits, Tag Version ID3v2.3.0 and View Tags "View Tags" brings up APIC,COMM, TALB,TCON, TDRC, TIT2, TPE1, TPE2, TRCK etc yep, all seems to be there, well its going to be a long night, but this will be a stern test for the iPad, the 4 SBR's, the SBS server, and I cannot say I am very confident, but it does have potential if Logitech could be bothered to really put it all together one day, maybe ! -- pcourtney Infrant ReadyNAS 1000S Sparc CPU 512mb and SBS 7.6.1 SBS Remote Control via an iPad2 and Logitech app Squeezebox Duet Receivers WiFi Connected x 3 Musical Fidelity X-CAN v2 Headphone Amps x 3 pcourtney's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49217 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90131 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Help me figure out this problem with my server
I don't know this machine but perhaps it is normal behavior that in absence of an uplink the machine reboots. I've had headless machines with a watchdog set to reboot when the network seems down, as a missing link is unlikely while a wedged OS might happen. Usually the watchdog has a hardware portion (look at the BIOS) and when such hardware is detected, an OS task is started. When the server is ok, but you disconnect the cable, does it reboot as well ? I would look at the ethernet settings in the server and make sure that the MTU is set to the standard 1500-byte frame size. If it is, I'd try setting the card to fast-ethernet speed 100Mbps duplex, and see what happens. If the switch is manageable, I'd look at the queuing policy on ports. If the switch has to connect 100Mbps and 1000Mbps ports there is a chance its buffers fill up and then it locks up. Perhaps the cause is in the power feed. I've had routers or other embedded devices wedge at random due to issues with mains power. Once I cured a router from locking up simply by adding a 2-meter extension cord between the Ac adapter and the wall plug... Also, I'd try changing / swapping the ethernet cables and ports used in the switch and see if something changes. One last thing I'd try is to run something like Ubuntu Live CD on the server and try stress-testing. If the problem is with the OS, Linux will react differently -worse or better- and this could bring some light to the issue. That's all I can think of now. [slim] Help me figure out this problem with my server
I have had this problem with my server for a while and have never been able to figure it out. Sometimes it doesn't happen for months at a time but now it has started happening regularly again and I need to get to the bottom of it because it is really annoying. I have a headless HP MediaSmart Server. It connects to a Gigabit switch which is connected through a Buffalo router. What happens is every so often the server just disappears off the network. All the lights on the server are normal, but I can tell it is offline because WHS puts icons on the client machines and they turn gray, plus all the shares become inaccessible. And of course, if I am playing music, it stops. Often it also knocks out the Internet connection for the entire network shortly after it goes offline. I used to be able to just wait it out and after 15-20 minutes it would all come back on its own, but now that doesn't seem to happen (I have left it overnight and it never came back). So I have to force a shutdown on the server by holding the button down and restarting it. Another weird thing that happens is if I unplug the server's Ethernet cable from the Gigabit switch, it reboots the server machine. That has happened with two different switches so it is not a problem with the switch. I have looked through the event viewer and Squeezebox server logs to try to figure out what is happening at these times, but I can't find anything that indicates what could be causing it. It is happening at all different times of day, too. The only thing I can figure is that the NIC in this machine is somehow faulty. Does that make sense? What else could it be? I'm afraid to tinker with any of the NIC settings because there is no monitor connection so the network is the only way I can access the machine. I can't just swap out the NIC in this machine, because it's built in and there are no expansion ports. So I was thinking of getting a USB Gigabit adapter to see if it makes the problem go away. [slim] No gain, no pain
Hi, I have an SB3 and a SB Boom controlled from the same server. However, I suspect that I have about 6dB less gain on the SB3. If I set both SB's with the analog VU on the display, music from my library on the Boom reaches -1 to -2 dB. However, on the SB3, it barely ever gets to -7dB. Changing the audio settings to fix the volume control to 100% on the SB3 doesn't seem to affect this. However, internet based radio stations are nice and loud on both SB's. Any thoughts? Is there a way to add ~6dB gain to the SB3, via CLI or some other means, independent of the Boom? - Thanks. -- weinstro Regards, Rob weinstro's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20169 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90116 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
