[slim] Accessing BBC5 Live Sports Extra
Hi. Here in the UK, I can quite happily listen to BBC5 Live Sports Extra via the Internet, through my PC. However, trying to tune in to the same programme via my Squeezebox I merely get a recorded due to rights restrictions this program cannot be received message. I guess this must be to do with the routing of the (Internet) network, i.e. the SB is accessing the station via a link outside of the UK. Does anyone know if/how I can get round this? Regards. THis is due to geo ip locking and playing the WMA stream for 5LIve. There are a number of workaround but first some info is needed. What type of player are you using ? Which menu/app are you using to play 5live ? bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97263 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

ja2038 wrote: ... Are you referring to some radio streams that offer that versus some that do not? Or are you referring to things like My Music (mp3, etc.) streams which do versus radio streams that do not?... Only referring to internet streams, local music is different. :) As others have suggested you are simply seeing the players buffer playback. How long it can buffer will depend on the stream size. Ex: 64k stream might buffer ten minutes, but a 320k stream might only buffer one minute Leave any basic station stream on over night and it will not resume where it left off. Whereas other subscription services like Rhapsody, Pandora, Deezer, etc... have the ability to actually pause/resume in that same scenario.. A true pause and resume would be your local music where you can pause the song then resume days (or even weeks/months) later exactly where you left off. assuming the LMS server has not been turned off. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97257 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The OP may be using an older SB player such as SB3 which cannot play AAC nativekly or the AAC stream was not available or they have saved the WMA URL. More info fromOP is necessary for a surefire workaround. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97263 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Accessing BBC5 Live Sports Extra
Thanks bpa. My radio is a Logitech Squeezebox: Firmware version: 7.7.2 r9963 (which is the latest) Hardware version: 5 and, from the SB menu, I selected: Internet Radio/Sports/More sports and teams/Stations(+25)/BBC Radio 5 livesports extra (UK) Thanks StridingEdge. I tried that link on my PC which, as you says, worked. However, a pop-up told me this was http://www.bbc.co.uk/5livesportsextra/ - Indeed, this is the link which finds the Internet page (but you then have to click on the Listen Live icon) and thanks bonze. Not sure where I can check country although I v.much suspect I would have selected UK if given the option Thanks again guys - for your support - it is much appreciated. Regards. Re: [slim] Accessing BBC5 Live Sports Extra
Geoff Just to clarify - that URL was taken from my touch settings and that it needs no further intervention from me to enable the stream to work. I didn't mean that it was the URL for listening via the internet on a PC. If it doesn't work for you then I suspect it is as others have mentioned and a limitation for the device you have? Re: [slim] Accessing BBC5 Live Sports Extra
With a Radio or Touch, the URL stridingedge ghave should work for you - you need to add it as a Favorite from the mysqueezebox.com web page and then play from the Favorite menu on the Radio/Touch. I suggest using the following version of the URL as it removes some Stridingedge specific details and will only play AAC version http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s50459formats=aac Alternatively, install the BBC Radio App from the App Gallery. It will give easier access to BBC live Radio stations and I think it has a workaround to handle the geo-ip WMA issue. Finally, you could install Triode's BBCiPlayer Applet which will gives access to Live streams and also Listen Again. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97263 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Internet Radio: changing Pause into being more like Mute
Depending on the station, and I am listening to streams found via internet radio search ranging from local to faraway NPR stations as well as various AM stations, I can get anywhere from 30 seconds of buffer to literally 7 or more minutes (All of LA Woman and more.) This is a terrible behavior. Either there should be 30 minutes or 60 minutes or two hours or any DVR like amount of buffering, OR There should be none of this buffering for internet radio. If I am listening to the radio for music, I don't want a song to end abruptly in the middle and go on to the current song. If I want to stop listening to the distracting/annoying talk show and wait for the next show, I don't want to restart it and listen to the annoying voice again, I want the new content. As I've said before, I do not know how to STOP a stream. I use an Android App or the Web App and near as I can tell, neither has any notion of clicking and holding. On internet radio, the pause/play button should be a stop/play button. ja2038's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40583 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97257 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Please tell me it ain't so.
tin wrote: I fail to understand why it was not possible. Sure it's not possible now (well not quite true, but not without a giant u-turn on the part of Logitech). If they had altered MSB to operate exactly the same as they want with UE, and make a brand new squeezebox work exclusively in that mode. Or even they could add a third UE mode, and again out of the box it only works in that mode. Then it's down to the user to willingly and knowingly decide to go into full squeezebox mode with some obscure menu item somewhere and it only works if the thing can detect a LMS on the network. They probably wanted to change customer base, basically get rid of the geeks and music enthusiasts and start attracting mass market users who mainly want to listen to internet radio and don't ask for bug corrections and new features all the time. Their only problem at the moment is that the UE Smart Radio is too expensive for mass market users, so the next UE Smart Radio product needs to be a lot cheaper. By switching platform, they have the possibility to eventually shutdown mysqueezebox.com in a few years when most Squeezebox users have moved on to UE Smart Radio or more likely to some new exciting product from someone else with similar functionality as the Squeezebox. I can't say I'm impressed of the work they have done with the UE Smart Radio so far, but it's the first iteration of a rebranded product, maybe the first real UE Smart Radio product which they are probably working on as we speak will show the full potential of their plan. tin wrote: If LMS is the problem, maybe it's chewing up time for people on the payroll, turn it back over full time to open source. All parts of LMS that can be open sourced already is open sourced. The parts that aren't open source are those which Logitech doesn't have the right to open source because the rights are owned by other companies (installer and some codecs I think) or which Logitech can't open source because it's their company identity/trademark (logos and other graphics). Except for this, mysqueezebox.com is heavily based on LMS, so even if they would let community maintain LMS they would need to handle similar changes on mysqueezebox.com themselves, so stop maintaining LMS would only get rid of parts of the problem. By the way, the UE Music Library server which is the local server used for UE Smart Radio is also heavily based on LMS code. So possibly they might have got rid of some of the problems by removing a lot of functionality in UE Music Library server. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96999 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
