[slim] How would you like your social music life to be integrated with music listening ?
I would like to take up your time and ask a bit about how you would like your social life (friends) to be integrated with your music listening/discovery ? Don't limit yourself to a specific product, system or service unless you feel it's important, just explain a bit what you think would be important and if there are things that you don't care about. Think both about local music and online music when answering. Think both about real life relations and online relations when answering. The questions below are just some here to give you a view of what kind of things I'd like to know more about, but feel free to expand on other areas within the same topic or skip answering some of the questions if you feel that you don't have an opinion. 1. Do you want to recommend music to your friends ? -- Do you want to recommend it to all your friends, some of them or a specific one ? -- Do you want to do recommendations manually or do you want recommendations to be produced automatically based on your playback history ? -- In which situation do you realize you want to recommend something ? -- What kind of device/devices do you have in front of you when you want to do the recommendation ? 2. Do you want to get recommendations for great music from your friends ? -- Do you want to get it from all your friends or would you like to hide recommendations from some friends which doesn't have the same music taste as you ? -- Do you only want manual recommendations from your friend or would automatic recommendations based on what they have been listening to recently be of interest ? -- In which situation do you get recommendations ? -- What kind of device/devices/service do you have in front of you when you get recommendations ? -- What kind of device/devices/service do you have in front of you when you want to view recommendations ? 3. Would you like to browse your friends library to find some interesting music ? -- Would you focus on their playback history ? -- Would you focus on their recently rated/loved tracks ? -- Would you focus on their playback statistics, like what they have mostly listen to during the last 3 months or something similar ? 4. Would you accept that friends can browse your library to find something interesting ? -- Would that be too much of a privacy concern ? -- Would it be acceptable but only if you could select which parts of your library that should be available to your friends ? -- Would you accept that they can see what you are mostly listening to ? 5. Do you want to see the music activities of your friends ? -- Like information about music they have recently added to their library, listened to or marked as loved ? 6. Are you willing to share your own music activities to your friends ? -- Like information about music you have recently added to their library, listened to or marked as loved ? 7. How do you want to manage the list of music friends ? -- Through existing social networks like Facebook, Google+,Twitter, ... ? -- Through a special social music network ? -- Both ? 8. How do you want to find new music friends ? -- Only through real life contacts where you have meet the person ? -- Through this community ? -- Do you want to get recommendations of new possible friends based on that you listen to similar music ? I've also recently posted some other similar threads for other topics, if you haven't answered on them previously please take the time to do so: - Usage of online services in your family: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98198-Usage-of-online-services-in-your-family - Usage of local music library in your family: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98199-Usage-of-local-music-libraries-in-your-family - How do you want to create/manage playlists: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?94988-How-do-you-want-to-create-manage-playlists erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98316 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?
I'm inclined to say use the connector used for the SBT, so that as an upgrade people may use/buy higher end power supplies built for the SB. Are there any plans for a power indicator light, preferably one that could be seen on the front of the box? Seems to me we'd be looking at some difficult basic troubleshooting if there's not some means of simply determining if the device is powered on. I'm assuming there won't be a power switch, but hoping there will be a reset button similar to the one on the Touch. I like the idea to be able to use existing power suplies OR use the comunity supply as spare or upgrade to existing players nice synergy rigth there . Re running betas , I have only one server and it has been on the latest betas since 2008 ! Does that qualify as tolerant to things not being perfect and not whine to much :) Touch Radio and controller all uses beta versions to . So put me in the line for the possibility off being a tester , I would be perfectly cool about not being picked if you find a better candidate . But for the Gen2 device I'm inclined to say use the connector used for the SBT, so that as an upgrade people may use/buy higher end power supplies built for the SB. I was assuming that even at the 'production' stage (if that's an applicable term), the standard power supply would be an inexpensive wall wart. Perhaps a way to recoup some of your time and costs might be to design, build and sell a moderately priced power supply that could be housed in a matching enclosure. The Cubieboard has 2 power options - a dedicated input using one of those barrel connectors. There's also a micro usb power input which can be used with standard usb power adapters. I use the micro usb for everyday use. castalla's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15624 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox classic 3 no optical or coaxial output HELP
I'd start with a Xilinx reset. Unplug power, press and hold down the one (1) button on the remote, plug power back in (whilst continuing to hold down the one button). toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98319 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

John, I'm not a developer and don't think like one. I just want the SWAMP to play my music. I'm interested in convenience and SQ. if that qualifies me as a beta tester, then please count me in. Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?
Hi. I think this is some of the best thing happening for a long time. I'm more a HIFI nerd so i does not bother if the price goes up, as long that the quality on the SPDIF coax , BNC coax is outstanding. I Think that, as written before , is a marked for us which like to stream music and want a open Project... I have as SB3 since 2006 , and a popcorn hour A-2xx. Personal i think the popcorn plays with greater passion , and It's not limited to 24/48 Khz as my squeezebox is. So I have used a lot of Time to use their API to send command to their interface and It's working quite well. Why I really want a new Community Device is that I'm so tired of their instability and I can not improve it at all cause it's close source code. A linux device on a wandboard seems to me as an excellent solution. One Question to you John... Is it a final decision to use the wandboard dual , to use in this project ??? /Best Michael Denmark. michaelvv's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59321 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] player disabled when connecting to msb.com
Bought a used SB classic 3 player from ebay. I tried to install it using a wired ethernet connection. It does connect to the media server in the PC and does play music files. It will even connect to each App separately and play files, no problem. Here are the problems: 1) The SB will only connect to the internet when my PC is on. 2) Even with the PC on the SB locks up and gives this error message, This player is disabled please contact msb.com/support. when I a) try to connect to my squeezebox.com b) or try to connect to my apps I have to unplug the unit and do a factory reset to unfreeze the unit and start all over again. First I would like to listen to My Apps with the PC off, second I would like to use my SB without worrying about hitting the wrong button MY APPS and screwing up the whole thing. I called Technical support on a late Saturday afternoon and they had me do a factory and router reset and checked out my account on their end, according to them everything was working OK. They will call or Email monday if they can discover a solution. Has this happened to anybody? johnyrotten's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59320 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98325 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I was going to ask: is there any reason not to use micro USB as the power input? Even if people subsequently wanted to use a better supply, that could still easily be routed through a microUSB connector? Also, quite keen to do beta testing, if that's helpful. cdmackay's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=24816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] lossless internet radio streaming in FLAC!
SlimChances wrote: As far as I can tell none of these links work. Tried 3 of them in Tune In with no output (what is the operating times for stations EST) Your guess is as good as mine. There is no set schedule for when Absolute plays these streams. As I say in the title of this reply, supply follows demand. Unless more of us tune in, there is less incentive for them to turn on (more regularly). I prefer late night and the wee hours of the morning (London time), only because that's when they play more of the off-beat and just plain cool. [slim] Wanted: a Few Can-do FLAC Testers / p2p Streamers
Hear lossless audio on the Reality Radio Streamer p2p radio, but first of all, you need to determine your bandwidth limits.Test your upload and download speeds (in Megabits per second) at 'speedtest.net' (http://speedtest.net). If your upload and download rates are at least 1 Megabit per second each, you can tune in when Back in FLAC is transmitting in 16-bit depth. For certain kinds of audio (some of the less dense 'Avant Garde Project' (http://www.archive.org/details/iaagp) material for instance), you will be able to tune in during 24-bit transmission.Denser 24-bit material will require higher bandwidth, both up and down.Once you've installed Streamer 2.2*0 Player only*, visit 'streamerp2p.com' (http://streamerp2p.com), where you will find the streaming stations list, which spans roughly five pages.Find the Back in FLAC listing and note the bitrate. If it looks too high, try it anyway. The worst that can happen is drop-outs due to bandwidth shortfall. tools you will need: 'nbsp; Streamer 2.2*0 Player only*' (http://www.streamerp2p.com/sfiles/installstreamerbeta.exe) (found 'here' (http://www.streamerp2p.com/?page=download.htm)) Accept the defaults; don't fiddle with anything. After installation, start Streamer 2.2*0 Player only*.If you get an error message, it's likely that another program is using your ports 8000 and 8001.Don't panic.Click on the small button depicting a wrench.Click the tab labeled Port.Enter 8002 in the Audio / Unicast port (TCP) field.Problem solved. In the unlikely event that yet another program is using your port 8002 and you get another error message, enter 8004 in the field -- you know the drill.Click the Apply button.Next, click the tab labeled Speed, then under Bandwidth allocation enter 999 in the Upload field.Enter 999 in the Download field.Click OK.Click the X in upper right, closing the program. 'nbsp; VLC media player' (http://www.oldapps.com/VLC_Player.php) (version 2.0.0 hasn't had hiccups for me, can't speak for the two later versions) During installation, check-mark the Mozilla plugin and ActiveX plugin boxes, if not already checked.Accept all other defaults. Point your browser 'here' (http://www.archive.org/download/TVtemplate/sp2p.html) and click Reality Radio to invoke Streamer p2p. Finally, open VLC media player and play the stream by entering http://localhost:8000/sound.ogg (in Media/Open Network Stream/Please enter a network URL) and clicking Play at lower right. [image: http://archive.org/serve/uploaded/Dupenhagen_Moonbat-cap3.jpg] (*Note*: Be sure and change the value of the Edit Options field as depicted above (by ticking the Show more options box) to :network-caching=3 . If you still have drop-outs, increase the caching to 74999. (VLC caching is measured in milliseconds). More adventurous VLC users should try the '**in-browser** VLC' (http://www.archive.org/details/BlasphemousCreation) page (by hitting the play button therein corresponding to the http://localhost:8000/sound.ogg field).
