You might want to try Michael Herger's Smart Mix plugin.

Sure, I do this for a lot of different lists which I grow over time. I
also have some based on BPM and Intensity which I generate as smart
playlists in J. River Media Center and export as static lists for LMS.

I don't think you can specify a playlist as always shuffled, but you can
just play it through the Dynamic Playlists plugin as random songs from a
playlist, and then you don't have to turn shuffle on.

[slim] Using playlists to make moods, suggestions? alternatives?

2013-05-19 Thread sander

I primarily listen to dynamic playlists and music generated by MusicIP,
either initial mixes or Sugarcube seeded from a single song.

Lately, I've been looking for more of a mood music option (e.g. mellow,
lively, etc.). I can do only so much with Dynamic Playlists (as far as I
know) since the genre/year (my usual criteria) isn't enough of a
qualifier in this instance.

My idea was to use the playlist manager plugin to create playlists which
and add tracks which I liked and fit into these categories "using the
add to playlist... feature. Over time the list should be big enough that
I could play these playlists in shuffled order and these would give me
my moods.

Has anyone else done anything similar or have a better way to do this?

Also can playlists be saved as shuffle even if the regular system
doesn't use this option? I rarely use conventional playlists or listen
to albums, so in theory I could set this on the player/lms, but I'm
unclear if this would mess up any of my existing functionality.

TIA

Appreciate the quick responses. I already reset it 5 times. Did not
impact anything. Also did a Xilinx reset. Next step would be to
reinstall the firmware. If you think that would help, how I do that?

What I do now, which may not be that efficient, is have one PC with a
big external drive (well, 2TB was big at the time) that has all of the
music we collectively own (8+ songs over 20+ years). Family
members are using both iPhone and Android for their own music. So - I
guess central computer/NAS is the answer there - and then copy to other
devices as needed.

We have individual 'libraries' only because of the way iTunes works -
where we have a main iTunes that has everything, and in another user an
iTunes with just hat person's 'library' - since we have devices with
different Apple accounts and couldn't find a better way to make that
work.Tried sharing the iTunes library with multiple users, but
didn't work well.

More so that worrying about multiple 'libraries' - it's the playlists
for each family member that is most important.

Would be nice - since that is similar to the statistics on each device
used to play music - and we can't keep that detail though the Squeezebox
where it's just one set of stats.

Just one 'common' player - Squeezebox connected to a receiver that has
AirPlay. Not important to me about restrictions.

Have the Squeezebox physical remote control (Squeezebox 3), but mostly
use SqueezePad/iPeng (bought them both) on iPad/iPhone, and Squeezebox
app (I think just the Logitech one) on Android phone. Use the iPad
mostly just because of the large screen.

erland wrote:
>
> How would your dream system work to work as good as possible for usage

I want my music available everywhere. That's at home on the stereo
with the Squeezebox 3, and on everyone's portable devices (2 iPhone's,
one Android) in multiple places - in the house (either for iHome alarm
clock dock, or just at home in a room away from others), in the car
(would be great if it worked well in my car, and had a car-friendly
display like some apps do with large text), and just anyplace away - at
work, etc.

AudioGalaxy was great when it existed at letting me access local music
anywhere.Too bad it shut down.I sort of replaced it for 'away
from home use' by using Amazon Cloud and uploading all music there
(which yes, for 80-90,000 songs - too a long time) - but now music is
available everyplace - but playlists on Amazon aren't the same as local
- so that's not ideal.

As far as organizing music - having the large 'family pool' of music
that people can carve out their own playlists from is probably
sufficient - but creating local 'libraries' that they then creating
playlists out of might be better.Managing physically moving music to
the devices would be nice - having to stream everything through the air
like AudioGalaxy is nice for those of us with unlimited data, but not so
much otherwise - so on one device, being able to have playlists on the
phone using local music and have that playlist appear when we are using
the Squeezebox would be better than we have now.

It's the playlists that work everywhere that's key - and having local
music available away. Amazon Cloud gives me the music - but not the
2-way playlist sync I'd like, and doesn't give me MusicIP or SmartMixes
which I now use a lot.

Hmmm... I do have a Duet receiver connected but it's rarely used and it

[slim] Transporter Will Not Access Mysqueezebox or remember updated name

2013-05-19 Thread shamanjunior

Hello all, Did not see a Transporter forum, so posting here. I have a
Transporter that I purchased second hand. It will not complete the
mysqueezebox.com registration, although it is showing up on
mysqueezebox.com list of players. It keeps cycling through the
enrollment process. If I choose the local server, it will play fine,
although I noticed that it does not retain the information once I turn
it off. I have tried a factory reset and a Xilinx reset. Any
suggestions? I have another Transporter in a vacation home that does
not exhibit this behavior. Long live Squeezebox! Thanks, Andy

[slim] Automatically connect to squezzecenter when server sleep

2013-05-19 Thread praero

Hi. Just moved all music to another (quick) server. This server goes
into sleep when not used (as wanted) and wakes nicely and quickly in

But...then the clocks shut down on my 4 old classics around the house.
As I recall, there was a plugin (cant find it) that made the squezzebox
automatically switch to squezzecenter when server go to sleep.

Does anynody know the plugin, or another solution as I want the to keep
sleep function on this server, but always show clock when not in use?

It appears under certain circumstances a UE radio can be changed to
become a SB Radio but I think OP needs to read very carefully about how
this can be done. IIRC any UE upgrade by Logitech prevents the change to
SB radio. This thread is a starting piint see

The UE Radio cannot be "downgraded" (some would say upgraded) to be a
Squeezebox Radio, simply because the firmware doesn't allow this. From
what I've read, it would be possible if Logitech decided to let it
happen.

Despite Logitech abandoning the line, the Squeeze platform is a long way
from dead. There are several community projects on the go to keep it
alive. there are a few very long threads on here about a new open
hardware platform that some are working on, as well as a new OS and
software.

I've been out of the loop for a couple of year, but i get the feeling
that exciting times are ahead again.

I've used MOG and Spotify. Both work well and meet your standards
(except I'm not sure about #4 as I'm the only user). For #3, not sure,
but I can download spotify items to either my iphone or ipad, so I'm
guessing this works as long as both devices are connected to same
account. For Spotify to work on all but RADIO and TOUCH, you'll need
Triode's 3rd Party Spotify Plugin. For MOG, the logitech app will work.
I moved from MOG to Spotify because Spotify will work with Triode's
plugin even if mysqueezebox.com went away.

I found it very easy to sign up for both these services then cancel.
Even going back to spotify was easy (old username still worked, I just
had to turn billing back on). So I'd say try MOG, Spotify, or Rhapsody
and then test them out to see how they work for you.

[slim] What will happen to Squeezebox?

2013-05-19 Thread Javac

Hi!

Just yesterday when i was browsing for Squeezebox I noticed it was gone
from almost all stores on the web. Then I found out (a little late) that
Logitech had discontinued the series...
So I just wonder, what will this mean in the long-term? I have a
Squeezebox Boom (and I love it - the best player ever!), will it
eventually stop working with Squeezebox Server (again I now understand
it is Logitech Media Server, what's the difference?)? I mostly listen to
Spotify via the 3rd party plugin and radio stations. Is these services
dependent on Logitechs mysqueezebox.com service at all? Actually I
couldn't remember ever logging in to mysqueezebox.com... (although I
created an account when I bought the Boom in early 2011).

Also I've been thinking of buying a Squeezebox Radio for quite a long
time, my girlfriend also want a radio in the kitchen. Maybe this is the
last chance now... Or is the UE Radio downgradeable to use Squeezebox
Server?

Hope someone can help :)
Thanks in advance!
