err, I'd rather cut off my right arm than use iTunes. I've no idea but
some of them date back to when I did the first install of LMS using 7.4,
I've now got LMS 7.7.2 which has been running pretty well minus the
scanner problems since I installed it. Time to update.

Asides from migrating the podcasts from mysb.com, is there anything else
I should know about moving from 7.7.2 to 7.9? Where is the best place to
read up?

Thanks again for all the great help...

For the record, this works well enough for me. I use a Squeezeplay 7.8.0
r328 build, with this skin, running on a WIN7 laptop with the lid closed
and in a drawer beneath a 65-inch Samsung LCD TV running at 1920x1080
resolution. Its much more useful that the default skins. Thanks.

[slim] Squeezebox 2015 - Is the Squeezebox Universe Expanding of Shrinking?

2014-12-30 Thread ctbarker32

Hi,

I thought I would pose a question to the community to generate some
discussion about the future of the Squeezebox product we love.

I have personally been using the Squeezebox products and server for
about 10 years and it's been a rewarding (sometimes frustrating) ride. I
still have my original SB3's and all the squeezeboxs (sans the
Transporter) through to the Touch. I am now having great fun
experimenting with Raspberry Pi based clients courtesy of Picoreplayer
and Squeezeplug. My personal LMS server holds over 6,000 albums across
several terabytes of storage.

So, my question for 2015 - Is the Universe of LMS and Squeezebox
expanding, contracting, or staying about the same?

On the expanding side, I am very encouraged by the development of
products like Squeezelite that empowers Picoreplayer and Squeezeplug to
harness the power of the incredibly malleable Raspberry Pi platform. I
think this is an incredible breakthrough and breathes new life into the
platform. I am also encouraged at the introduction of services such as
Tidal and ability for Squeezebox to access via the ickstream plugin. I
am also happy that we can experiment with DSD files using the plugin
introduced for LMS.

On the contracting side, while USB DAC PC Audio is all the rage it is
almost always implemented using some form of host personal computer
hooked up to a DAC. I never see anyone utilizing Squeezebox based
clients using LMS to accomplish the same thing in a more distributed
network environment. Can we as a community do more to publicize the LMS
platform?

I am also discouraged that pretty much all of the proprietary music
server systems seem to use DLNA type technology that we all know doesn't
hold a candle to the performance and features of LMS. This, despite many
of these systems being no more than customized Linux computers. Is there
any reason other manufacturers cannot implement LMS/Squeezebox support
into their own products the way open source applications already do?
Every time I see a new proprietary music server solution (usually at a
high cost) I feel it is always reinventing the wheel and solving
problems that have already been solved by LMS?

I continue to marvel at the amazing system that Sean Adams and his team
created with great foresight that has allowed the Squeezebox ecosystem
to continue to live on despite some pretty severe setbacks.

I believe that the future remains bright and hope that over time the
community will coalesce around solutions that bring great innovation to
this platform.

-CB

Are you certain there are no gaps contained in the music files
themselves? The vast majority of CDs have gaps between the songs on CD
and most rippers will preserve those gaps by making them part of the
ripped files (typically added at the ends of tracks). And for gapless
CDs, it's possible to rip so that gaps are inserted, although that's
less common. You should be able to easily tell by playing the tracks in
a computer audio player.

If it were a problem with drive access, I'd expect that you would not
only have gaps between songs, but also dropouts during playback (in the
middle) of songs.

no, that's not likely the cause. I often use a setup with an external
USB drive connected to a laptop and gapless is fine. How is the SBT
connected? Is it wired back to the router or connected directly to the
mac mini? Have you checked the player settings in LMS > Settings >

I'm not familiar with QNAPs, but the way I handle it with my own NAS
(which is running Linux) is to create a link in a network-accessible
folder, pointing to the library.db file (in your case
/opt/ssods4/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/Cache/library.db). That way I can
map a drive in Windows pointing to the shared folder, and access the
file directly that way.

So if you log in to your NAS you could do something like:

ln /opt/ssods4/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/Cache/library.db
lsm-library.db

Then the "file" lsm-library.db would actually be a link to the LSM
database file, and you could access it as such from a Windows drive
mapped to the share where you created the link.

Yep. Exactly. It is also very portable. I often walk around the house
with a pair of headphones doing this and that. Used to be a pair of
Sennheiser RF portables but now ditched in favour of a iPod touch or

be an Android phone or tablet. I have SB Player on my Amazon Fire TV as
well. The Fire TV makes a really good occasional player.

Squeezelite. I replaced all my hardware players, so I'll maybe have to
dig one out to test. That said, I've been playing it from my Favorites,
so I'll try your navigation method first in case the link has changed.

It has always worked just fine on Squeezelite before.

Thanks all, helpful!

For what it's worth, I looked at the third party software forum, and
there seemed to be more activity here on related things so made the
post. It IS "general discussion", and you can't get more general than
control mechanisms.

My experience with the Logitech app is quite positive, and it's taken me
no time at all to get accustomed to the long vs short presses for
different things. But I'll definitely check out the others and suspect
I'll settle on one of them. Or both. Or all three, counting the
Logitech app.

And for what it's worth, and totally off topic, I'm very much enjoying
my new phone. I am normally averse to all things Sony, but the Experia
Z3 Compact seems great. I wanted a smaller form factor and it was the
best reviewed. Also waterproof to some very deep level, a good thing as
this morning while fiddling with other things in our laundry room I
dropped the phone right into the dog's water dish. Apparently no harm
done. . .

[slim] Receiver PSU plug diameter?

2014-12-30 Thread ModelCitizen

Hello.

I have recently bought two third part power supplies for my Logitech
Squeezebox Receiver. Neither fit. The plug diameter is either too large
or two small. The second company, 'whichlaptop' have kindly offered to
supply me one of the right size. However, look as I may I can't find a
spec for it anywhere. Has anyone any idea what it might be?

Thanks.

I got my Receiver via the beta program. I guess I am right to assume
that the production devices use the same supply?

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known

Re: [slim] Android controller apps

2014-12-30 Thread srasher

I'd like to weigh in for Squeeze Control.

In my opinion Orange Squeeze and Squeeze Control are the two
go-for-options. Both of them are under active development and the
current state is close to perfect for both, I think any minor quirks are
more a matter of personal taste than real UI or App design issues. My
personal experience is that both are very responsive and supportive
towards bugs/enhancements.

I have switched forth and back between the two and currently I have
stuck with Squeeze Control. But as stated above, it is more a matter of
personal taste than of real issues with one or the other. Two minor pro
arguments for Squeeze Control could be that is has a dedicated tablet
mode (although it is a 1$ in-app purchase) and that the developer has
started to add support for Chromecast as a "What's playing"-display ;-)

Cheers,
Seb
