[slim] Using Squeezebox as wireless DAC

2015-01-26 Thread Phonophobe

I want to play audio from my laptop through my hifi wirelessly.

I already own two Squeezebox Classics and a Boom. Is it possible to set
these up as simple wireless DACs so that any audio which would normally
be heard from my laptop speakers is played through the hifi?

Many thanks!

Welcome,

Don't know about the Classics, but from the Boom wiki:=

*Q. Is there a line-out?*

A. There is a subwoofer/headphone output. The functionality is
selectable from a menu item in the Squeezebox Boom. If you want to
drive a stereo receiver or other amplified speakers, you can do that.
There is a slight difference in the circuitry between headphone and
line-out circuits, but it should work in nearly all situations. The
worst case that will happen, in only some cases, would be that there is
slightly more noise heard through your speakers. No damage will occur.

A better solution is a raspberry pi with dac card or cheap usb/headphone
unit like a Stoner

https://www.facebook.com/StonerAcoustics

not too sure if the drivers for this are included in the 'pi kernel.

( if funds preclude the purchase together, first buy the 'pi, then the
card).

Do some research.

2015-01-26 Thread d6jg

Think some people might of got the wrong end of the stick here - do you
mean you want to play ANY audio that's on your laptop to one of your
Squeezebox devices ?

If so then do you have a working LMS on your network ? Assuming you do
then you need to run it with upnp switched on then your squeezeboxes
will appear in Windows Media Player etc as players. How you switch upnp
on depends on what OS LMS is running on.

LMS needs to be involved, so you need to install that on your laptop.

Normally one would have a wifi router acting as intermediary between the
laptop and the players (with the speakers built in to the Boom). In the
absence of that, you can set up the laptop so that it is in effect both
the server and the router. You do this by implementing an ad hoc
connection between the laptop and the device. Ad hoc is what its
called in the Windows context.

I've done this with my laptop and a Boom, when on vacation. Allowed me
to control the music from my laptop, from the Boom and using a remote.
Could use an Android/iPhone as well.

Ad hoc connections are not the most straightforward things, but
ultimately work fine.

[slim] LMS Has Become Unstable

2015-01-26 Thread gershbec

I’m a longtime Squeezebox user (Transporter and Boom) and I’ve usually
been able to work through whatever problems I’ve encountered with keep
my music up. Unfortunately my LMS has become very unstable lately and
I’ve been tearing out my hair trying to fix it. I've upgraded and
downgraded the version with clean installs and now I'm back on 7.8.1.
Reset both my players too.

I’ve got a MacMini (Mavericks) with an external drive with about 225,000
songs in Apple lossless. The Logitech Media Server lists nothing under
Media Library Statistics and Information comes up empty, despite the
scan having finished.

My iPeng will list the players but when I play some music, I may or may
not get a little music before the LMS restarts itself. Sometimes I’ll
get a list of the artists but when I go to look at the albums, there is
no content.

I suspect that this may have something to do with album art, as my
Squeezebox is playing right now but no artwork is showing. I could turn
off the artwork if anyone knows how to do this. My other suspicion is
that perhaps this is because of the size of my library.

I will post the log in the first reply. If anyone has any idea of
troubleshooting ideas I’d love to hear from you!

Re: [slim] Using Squeezebox as wireless DAC

2015-01-26 Thread Mnyb

Use LMS logitech media server . And there is a WAV-in plugin for sources
other than files that LMS has scanned .
And with the latest LMS 7.9 you can use to browse folder without scan
and play the files .

But forget about using for movies or video games , the buffering
involved means just to much lag . LMS + squeezeboxes is a music system
that's basically works the other way around from what you thinking about
. You sitting with your player using its UI or some app pulling music
from a computer/NAS that's not in the room with you . Not sitting in
from of a computer pushing out music to the players .

However there are some solutions for using foobar2000 and also
MediaMonkey as players .

You can take the complete log files and zip them and post here ( or add
the txt files if they are small enough ) , just not copy excerpts from
the web UI .

Then you can post the full log .

If the scan does not finish there is no hope of any decent functionality
. So the system needs to have complete scan that's completed trouble
free .

Did you try with as few plugins as possible ? With or without the iTunes
integration on ? You can piont LMS directly to the files in its basic
settings and not use the iTunes integration .

Another tip seems to be to delete all .dB and .wal files in the cache
directory and restart LMS and let it finish its scan .

Mavericks do a search on that , and don't know if the fixes made to get
LMS to work with Mavericks is done to anything less than 7.8.1 or is it
even 7.9 I haven't followed which server version that fits which OSX
version .

[slim] ReadyNAS and FLAC 96kHz

2015-01-26 Thread raindog911

I had over 15K titles ripped on WMA lossless. When I moved my LMS from
Windows to the ReadyNAS 104 (OS 6 / ARM), I converted to FLAC and
upsampled to 96kHz. At the time, I wasn't aware that due to real time
conversion back to 44.1K to serving music to my 5 slim devices, 96kHz
would cause problems.

The issue causes an error message to show on every slim device when
attempting to play a song Problem: Can't open file for: filename

On non-ReadyNAS platforms, FLAC.EXE needed to be installed to make this
work. Is this file/functionality available for the ReadyNAS? If so, what
is the best way to load a specific file onto the correct location in the
ReadyNAS (the GUI doesn't seem to have a simple file explorer).

Thank you in advance.
