[slim] Squeezebox classics problem

2015-09-04 Thread palov63

Hi guys, I ve got SB classics and after 4 years I changed power adapter
/the proper one-5V,2A/. I am using wifi with any problem. After some
time, display dissapeared, but still working and playing music.
Controlling by memory on remote contr. or threw PC-SB apps. Six months
ago completely stopped working. They refused to repair that, due to "no
spare parts" /just asking on e-mail/. I ve read this forum /maybe not
properly/ and didnt find solution to my problem. After six months I
tried to switch it on and what a suprise: It s working and playing
music, but untill I powered off. Then no more display and music again.
It happened a few times. Time-out must be more than week. What could be
a problem? That repeatedly working for a while completly confused me.
Open SB is no problem for me, but I ll wait for your adwise rather,
thank you very much for your help and time, appreciate that a lot

Didn't we predict a couple of years ago that cassettes would be the next
hipster thing, now that vinyl is too mainstream for hipsters? :)

Atlantic; a very belated thank you!

A short note on how I got this to work if anybody else is having similar
issues:

After an awful lot of Googling I eventually found out what you were
talking about.  This process is achieved using one of two methods;
1. Port Address Translation or PAT. This allows you to use several port
numbers as a proxies for the one that the server is listening on. The
proxy ports are known as "origin" ports and the port that the server is
listening on is known as the "destination" port. In this case I could
use 443 as the "origin" and 9000 as the "destination".

2. Virtual Server. This is a simple extension of Port Forwarding that
allows the incoming port number to be different from the port number the
server is listening on. This means doing two separate port forward
entries:
[external ip]:9000 -> [internal ip]:9000
[external ip]:443   -> [internal ip]:9000

My rather ancient Netgear DG834GT router allowed Port Forwarding but did
not have a Virtual Server function or PAT available in the firmware. So
I bought a new router that had a Virtual Server setup. That took quite
a bit of time as it involved downloading a lot of instruction manuals as
this is not often listed as a "feature" in the specifications of most
routers sold to the general public.

Anyway, the new router came with a host of other improvements, such as
much faster wi-fi and better stability, so it was worth doing even
without making remote LMS work.

Like most computer stuff it is "simple when you know how" - it is
finding the "know how" that is difficult!

Unfortunately digitising tapes is the same process as digitising vinyl.
Record to wav, split and convert to FLAC etc and tag.
VinylStudio is the best Windows software in my opinion coupled with
mp3tag.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox classics problem

2015-09-04 Thread epoch1970

There are, AFAIK, 3 common issues that could relate to your problem:
- a weak PSU that does not really deliver 2A
- a loose or rusty power socket within the SB3
- a dead wifi card

Now the fact the SB3 works again after some time might have something to
do with dead capacitors. I think I've read of someone with an issue like
this, I am not sure.

Relatively recently someone has repaired an SB3 damaged by lightning.
'The post contains exensive information'

and, I hope, might be of help.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks for your reply, I am going to buy another PSU, just to be sure. I
ve read this issue and I am suspicious of capacitors as well. I dont

[slim] Problems with a Netgear Pioneer Pro 6 and a Transporter after factory reset

2015-09-04 Thread gclpc

I have a Pioneer pro 6 with 2 Logictech transporters. Everything was
working fine until a recent move. I had 2 hds damaged during the move. I
had to replace the hds, and do a factory reset. I reinstalled the data,
and now I can listen to radio over the Transporters, but when I try to
access the server, the Transporter identifies that it is there, but when
I try to access it, the transporter shows an "x" beside the server name.
Support at Logictech is less than useless. Any ideas?

[slim] Catastrophic Failure (an exaggeration): Resolved Spontaneously but...

2015-09-04 Thread jimzak

I was intermittently listening to music today and suddenly my entire SB
system failed, and for the first time, I couldn't seem to get it back
up. LMS server seemed to be running as usual on the LMS server
computer.

Symptoms:

1. Unable to open the web interface on the computer running LMS and for
that matter on any of the computers on my home network
2. No players or apps can connect. The Booms I have just stall at
"Getting an IP address..."
3. No music :(
4. My ambient music stream which I stream from WinAmp could not
connect/upload but downloading seemed fine on the server computer

What I did:

1. Rebooted the LMS server laptop
2. Installed the latest beta version of 7.9
3. Rebooted my router (and cable modem for good measure)
4. Unplugged and re-plugged in one of the Booms

I was pretty stumped.

My thoughts:

1. Some sort problem on the LMS server computer (it is connected to the
internet still via an Ethernet connection to my router). No software
was installed prior to the failure. I have automatic updates turned
off. It was almost as if all outbound data was blocked on the LMS
server computer.
2. The problem involved both Wi-Fi and ethernet. I could not connect
to LMS via an ethernet connected computer. I think this is kind of
worthless observations because I couldn't even connect to LMS on the
server computer.

System details:

1. LMS 7.9 for Windows with the cache on a ramdisk indexing 281,000+
songs on a multi-hard drive enclosure with 12 TB of storage, connected
via USB 3
2. HP Envy i7 notebook with 16 GB RAM running Windows 8
3. Cisco router
4. A bunch of players

The problem resolved itself it seems about 30 minutes later. LMS and
all the players connected and started working. My little ambient stream
connected to the internet nicely
(http://myradiostream.com/24/6610/listen.m3u)

All I can say is WTF and thank god it solved itself because I sure was
stumped.

Any ideas?

[slim] Click at end of ripped track or long silences at end of tracks FIX

2015-09-04 Thread TheIBM

I have been attempting to resolve an annoying, very odd, rather loud
'click' at the end of some (probably only ripped) tracks which could
certainly damage tweeters.

It did not appear on every track.

I have identified it is nothing to do with the type of encoding used,
in my case FLAC.

I looked a the files in a text editor and played/edited using
Audacity where the 'click' is not visible!

It does not appear when played in VLC or any other media player I
tried. Its specific to Squeezebox.

Have not identified the source but it was probably the windo app
'EAC' (I stupidly didn't use my Linux machine!)

There was no similarities or common code I could discern between the
various files. It was going to be a massive task going through every
file manually so I hit upon the following very quick, OK admittedly
slightly sledgehammer solution: But what the hell it worked.

After editing the file I discovered if I clipped the last second off the
end of the file the click vanished so I experimented and discovered by
clipping the last 10 bytes off the end of the track the issue resolved.
It made zero difference to the playing the track as 10 bytes is a
fraction of a second in the silence section.

Using the following 'find' and 'truncate' commands in a BASH shell
(Linux) I recursively clipped all tracks in my FLAC collection.
Windo users will find similar code out there that does the same
thing. You hope!

The command:userwithwritepermissions@yourvault#> find
"/path/to/music/folder" -type f -name "*.flac" -exec truncate -s -10 {}
+

eg: #> find /media/Music/flac -type f -name "*.flac" -exec truncate -s
-10 {} +

If you really want to be a smart@rse then you could re-run the command
and add 10 bytes back on as a filler, change -10 to +10.

DO however be careful. Linux has superpowers and is a formidable weapon
in the hands of the unwary. #>sudo rm -R / and its adiós
muchacha

Opening SB 9000 directly to the outside world is a seriously BAD idea!
Shudder!!!

If you have a fixed IP at home or can use a Dynamic DNS service then
install CYGWIN which is an SSH server for Windoz (assuming your using
windoz) Mac has SSH built in and its available for all versions of
Linux if not already pre installed.

Then at work install PUTTY.

Point a web browser to localhost and SOCKS proxy in network settings.

Set up a dynamic port in PUTTY to point to your home address. Connect.
You need to add a user at the home end with permissions to access via
SSH. Set a Very secure password!

Open and pinhole port 22 (SSH) on the home router to the internal home
PC (the SSH server)

Enter localhost:9000 in the browser

This stuff is very well documented on the net. Tag# SSH, PUTTY, CYGWIN

some reason, like a partial rebuild ?
If you have a log within in the controller bay I'd look at that.

Re: [slim] Click at end of ripped track or long silences at end of tracks FIX

2015-09-04 Thread Wirrunna

As a wearisome Australian, I had the same problem years ago, as far as I
remember it was caused by a fault in an early version of MusicIP
archiving analysis to tags that resulted in the last piece of a flac
file being a few samples short. I found that dbPoweramp could fix the
problem by converting the file from flac to flac. I used the opportunity
to go to flac(8) and save a bit of disc space. I suspect that using
Foobar to convert flac to flac would also be worth trying if you haven't
got dbPoweramp.
If you saved some tracks with the clicks I would be interested in
hearing if a flac to flac conversion eliminates the click.
