Thank you! I found a post how to take it apart but way too tired to do
it now (it's 1:30AM). I appreciate the response!

I will let you know of my success or lack thereof...

Re: [slim] Volume goes up & down without stopping Squeezebox Classic

2017-01-12 Thread sflen

When I am tired - not really thinking clearly...

I have all this equipment and never did a basic test. The so-called
'bad' remote works fine with all my other Squeezebox units and the other
remotes in the house cause the same weird behavior with flying volume
only with my bedroom Classic. So it is not a remote problem but how the
bedroom Classic reacts with any and all of my remote controls.

Great...

[slim] Video streaming recorder for video-on-demand services?

2017-01-12 Thread AndyMwt

Hey guys :),

Finally Netflix released an offline-mode! Love it, because really
makes my many travels with airplane and train more enjoyable, where the
internet connection is either weak or not existing.
Really long waited for that. However, unfortunately I had to discover,
that this offline mode is not available for every content.
For instance it's not provided for the new season of 'The Big Band
Theorie' what I'm currently watching to and would like to take with me
on my 15 hours travel next week.
Someone knows why it is like that and if I can calculate with more
content in the future?
Or would be even better if someone knows a solution?

Thanks for any help!

That sounds like a faulty IR sensor on the Classic itself then.
I imagine in the Bedroom you want to use the remote rather than iPeng.
You mentioned you had other Classics - perhaps swap its location with
another that works OK where you don't need to control with a remote ?

I've got one of these.

Which Audio Output did you use in Squeezelite settings to get it
working?

Thanks a lot for an objective feedback. I'll keep an eye on it ;) I do
have a lot of background in the software industry, so maybe that biases
me when judging the pricing. However, everybody seems to be happy with
the user experience they offer, so ... I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks!

I'm told that Roon has significant ongoing expenses in licensing the
data they use in creating the user experience (which is the key value
added prospect of the product). If true, and I believe it is, this is
why the product can't simply be "free" or dirt cheap. My only complaint
is that their forums are full of "audio woo woo" believers. But I
ignore that stuff (it's hard, but I've given up on trying to "fix"
errors on the internet);)

"Audio woo woo" believers... AWW! I like that. I think what I've
observed is a lot of folks that have not lived in the trenches of
digital audio streaming... the trials and tribulations of ripping CDs,
tagging and organizing your music files, seeking cover art and
struggling to get and keep it all working. Many Roon AWW believers
seem new to this biz... Perhaps they've ripped a few CDs, but more
likely they're downloading their music, given little thought to tagging
and organizing files and likely using Tidal. For them, Roon makes it so
easy to plug and play and has opened a whole new world.

Ah, it's good to be a dinosaur.

I wonder whether it might be possible to use waveinput plugin if you had
the tidal desktop application running on the same device as LMS?

There are some settings you have to change within Tidal. I think what
you're after is at the bottom of this post.

that's for the desktop application, not the LMS plugin.

i'm actually a little surprised, since i thought the SB would just see a
24/48 FLAC container and pass it along via the digital out.

which player and output are you using? i wonder if there's a setting
amiss in File Types?

i've been listening to the MQA files via my transporter, not decoded of
course, but to my ears they sound superior to the same album in non MQA
format. the non-MQA Tidal files are 16/44, these should be 24/48.

Thank you for your response!

This has been a wild 36 hours. Not only do I have run-away volume but
the same goes for the up & down arrow - songs in a playlist go by in a
blur. The on/off button does not work either. Nothing slows down enough
to do a proper reset of this Classic (the "+" technique). I will keep
trying.

Luckily iPeng functions and controls this Classic. Feeling grateful to
Pippin, the least I could do was to purchase the latest update to iPeng.
It is great to have split view on my iPad!

As I have 2 factory remotes in the Bedroom, I will use, as replacements,
my iPad Pro and ancient iPad Touch where iPeng does just fine. If using
these devices with my Classic gets too tedious, I will switch my Bedroom
Classic with another Classic that is not used as much.

I also called Logitech support and put in my request for them to remake
the Touch or Classic again. They replied that they have many requests
for this.

Just annoying but in the end - I'll live...
