Ouch.

I assume it's a major change to the Spotify API that can not be
integrated into the current LMS ecosystem without a major effort? Is it
worth a crowdfunding attempt?

Ah - I thought I'd looked - apologies. The email I received today was
the first I'd heard.

Am not surprised to find myself light years behind Michael! What
fantastic news - from the above link, it seems like a brilliant
solution. Thank you (once again, Michael).

Cheers for opening my eyes, Paul.

Re: [slim] Streaming Deezer on the Duet - is data from Deezer.com or Squeezebox.com?

2017-07-11 Thread wellsi

Ah, ok, (and apols for the double post there).

I probably need to do some more testing then, again when no one is in
the house and turn off pretty much everything excep the media server PC
and have another go. I read that footnote sentence as meaning the
streaming server being Deezer, not the local logitech media server. But
your interpretation makes more sense; why would it stream the same song
5 times?

Cheers again,
Ian

[slim] Spotify on Squeezebox / UE Smart Radio - end of life

2017-07-11 Thread mherger

We want to give you a heads up that Spotify support will be removed from
your Logitech Squeezebox and UE Smart Radio on July 20, 2017.

Spotify is discontinuing some device-specific integrations in order to
make playing Spotify on your speaker and other devices better and
easier, and regrettably Squeezebox and UE Smart Radio are impacted. See
'Spotify support page'
for details.

As of July 20, 2017, you will not be able to connect to Spotify from
your Squeezebox and UE Smart Radio.

You can still enjoy your personal music library and other radio and
music streaming services such as Pandora, Tidal, TuneIn and more. Please
see the full list of supported apps and services 'here'
(http://www.mysqueezebox.com/index/Home) for details.

[slim] Spotify about to stop working?

2017-07-11 Thread ademathews

Hi all,

I'm currently running Spotify using the protocol handler on LMS and have
today received an email quoting the following:

"Important information about your Squeezebox speaker

Hello,

We want to give you a heads up that Spotify support will soon be removed
from your Squeezebox speaker.

We want to make playing Spotify on your speaker and other devices better
and easier which means regrettably that we sometimes have to discontinue
device-specific integrations."

Just wondering what people think this means. Do you think it's just
Spotify withdrawing support for the mysqueezebox app (and that Spotify
will still work using the LMS plugin)?

Many thanks,

Adrian

You're mixing bits and Bytes: 2880Mb = (2880/8)MB = 360MB. Bitrate is
defined in bits per second, while bandwidth usage usually is counted in
bytes, not bits.

My calculation was a bit misleading, as my guessed 100MB would have been
for a single stream. 360MB/5P = 72MB/Player.

IMHO syncing 5 players using LMS should only pull the stream once from
the cloud to LMS, and 5x from LMS to the players. See the footnote about
"partial" syncing on mysb.com:

"You can sync these, but the audio will most likely not be in perfect
sync. The reason for this is because each player maintains its own
connection to the streaming server, and may start at slightly different
points in the stream."

mysb.com can't sync perfectly well, because the players stream directly
from the source. With LMS this limitation goes away as LMS is proxying
the stream.

5 songs would only consume about 100MB - 2GB must have been consumed
elsewhere. Can you track down from what source that data came?

Trust me when I say nothing is being proxied through mysb.com - the cost
would kill us. Are you using LMS or connect to mysb.com directly? The
single stream when synced would only work when using LMS (for
aforementioned reasons).

Re: [slim] Streaming Deezer on the Duet - is data from Deezer.com or Squeezebox.com?

2017-07-11 Thread Michael Herger

If I stream Deezer on my Duets around the house, am I streaming from
Deezer.com (which is included in their deal meaning it's not using up my
data allowance), or am I streaming from Squeezebox.com (which isn't, and
therefore will eat up my allowance).

The audio date comes from the music source, not mysb.com. I don't know
how they handle this, as it's not coming from some deezer.com domain,
but a CDN they're using. But I guess they've figured that out.

Also, (just checking), I assume if I'm streaming to 4 players
synchronised, I'm only downloaing data once to mediaserver which is then
in turn streamed wthin my home network to the 4 duet players (so Im not
using 4x the data when playign on 4 players...

Yes, afaik that's the case.

[slim] Streaming Deezer on the Duet - is data from Deezer.com or Squeezebox.com?

2017-07-11 Thread wellsi

Hi all

I use Three (a UK cellphone provider) for my home broadband (their
Home-fi - 4G option which gives me 40Gb a month of LTE 4G data for use
in my home). They also have a special deal that allows unlimited
streaming from a few streaming sites like Netflix and Deezer which
doesn't use up my data allowance.

If I stream Deezer on my Duets around the house, am I streaming from
Deezer.com (which is included in their deal meaning it's not using up my
data allowance), or am I streaming from Squeezebox.com (which isn't, and
therefore will eat up my allowance).

here you go

No indication of bitrate, and not much meta data but sounds pretty good

The problem is that MQA is a proprietary and commercial format.
Someone would have to swallow the certification and license fees.

[slim] DSD or DoP?

2017-07-11 Thread jags

I am using latest PiCore player 3.20 with LMS 7.9.1 on a Raspberry Pi 3
with Hifiberry Digi+ Pro.

I really love it!

One thing is bothering me though.
I have played around with DSD but I can only get DoP working.

Is there a way to play native DSD and is yes, how?

FYI
I am using I2S output of the Hifiberry DIgi+ Pro board.
I tested yesterday latest Volumio (beta) image and it runs native DSD
without any problem both 64 and 128.

I am wondering if and how we can get native DSD output from PiCore

Looking forward to your replies!
