Re: [slim] How Many Squeezeboxes still in use?
I prefer to run LMS with the ---nomysqueezebox.com -parameter, have done so for years. Now we're being told not to do this. I have absolutely no use for mysb.com. What's the difference between running (*a*) LMS with the ---nomysqueezebox.com- parameter, or (*b*) LMS with mysqueezebox.com, but not using mysb.com? Does it make any difference to the numbers of units Logitech are seeing? *Server - LMS 7.9.2 *Pi3B+/pCP 5.0.0 25K library playlists & LMS cache on SSD (ntfs) *Study -* Pi3B+/pCP 5.0.0/pi screen/HiFiBerry DAC+/jivelite, *Lounge* - Pi2/pCP 5.0.0 > HiFiBerry DIGI+ > AudioEngine DAC1 > AVI DM5 *Dining Room* - Squeezebox Boom *Garage* - Pi3B/Pi screen/HiFiBerry DAC+/pCP 5.0.0 > Edifier R980T *Spares* - 2xTouch, 1xSB3, 1xRadio, 6xRPi kidstypike's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10436 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110689 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I do agree that it will die eventually, as everything else. Just as an example, it has so far survived and been maintained longer than any of my Apple devices. Reasoning the way you do it would be pointless to buy a new smartphone today since its doomed, the latest iPhone is unlikely to be usable 5 years in the future so why buy and use it today. Are you sure Spotify will be alive 2024 ? I think the lifetime of Squeezeboxes (including mysqueezebox.com) is exceptional. I think I have exactly one electronic device in my home thats older than my Squeezebox Classic, everything except for my Sherwood receiver has been replaced after I purchased the Squeezebox Classic back in 2006. Im trying to think of any cloud services that has been alive longer than mysqueezebox.com and realize there arent many. Im not sure any of the premium streaming services on the market has been alive as long as mysqueezebox.com Having said this, mysqueezebox.com will eventually stop working but if we want it to survive longer we should keep using it rather than stop using it. It obviously get easier for Logitech to shut it down if nobody uses it. I can't reliably say that. A few 10k monthly active users from what I can see, but for example I know it's much more during winter than during summer. The figures are also estimates based on how many people have activated feedback in iOS and under the assumption that their usage is similar to those who don't. I have no idea how many Squeezeboxes people control per app. I know that about half of the iPeng users have only one Squeezebox but I don't know how many the other half has on average. Also, a lot of iPeng users even use more than one device per iPeng copy (a "copy" is a copy sold on the app store which you can install on as many devices as you like and in iPeng's case that now includes iPhones, iPads and Apple Watch). --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 9, the Universal App for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110689 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] How Many Squeezeboxes still in use?
Sourceforge has been the preferred location for 3rd party repo even though it has access issues, it provides down statistics For example, The number of downloads of BBCiPlayer plugin (and timeline) indicates "active" users https://sourceforge.net/projects/bpaplugins/files/BBCiPlayer-V1_6_7.ZIP/stats/timeline and the downoads by country https://sourceforge.net/projects/bpaplugins/files/BBCiPlayer-V1_6_7.ZIP/stats/map Another example could be Philippe upnp & Chromecast bridges - the URL ( https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-cast/files/dev/repo-sf.xml/stats/timeline ) shows number of users who have subscribed (i.e. LMS will refresh regularly) but zip downloads shows "active" users. https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-upnp/files/dev/UPnPBridge-1.19.1.zip/stats/timeline https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-cast/files/dev/CastBridge-1.19.1.zip/stats/timeline What I take from these figures is that while there are core users (i.e. playback of a music collection or popular streaming services ) there are also LMS users in many small groups occupying niches which have not been addressed by "commercial" products bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110689 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
