Re: [slim] SB release 7.5.3: Unreliable. Anyone else?

2011-02-07 Thread Chewie

I've had problems with my Transporter and SB3 running via the WHS
version. I upgraded and from then on kept getting the message "Can't
connect to server.Left to go back, right to try again." This message
would appear for 30 seconds and then return to the normal display, then
30 seconds later the whole process starts again and again for 5 minutes.
This would happen once or twice an hour.

I've never had a single problem before, my signal strength for the
Transporter is 90% plus and 95% plus for the SB3.

Downgraded to 7.5.2 and the problem has gone away.

Re: [slim] Windows Home Server

2009-05-07 Thread Chewie

I’ve been using the 7.4 WHS version on my EX475 for 6-8 weeks now and I
must say in that time it has come on in leaps and bounds and now offers
everything a typical user could want in a WHS add in.

Initially I was a bit uneasy using the nightly builds having had
problems with the old Windows versions of them when I ran them on an XP
machine but since the automatic download feature was activated, I have
been regularly using the nightly builds on my WHS without any problems
whatsoever.

So thank you to all those involved in the WHS version and its continued
development, your doing an excellent job.

[slim] Repetitive Scan Failures

2008-10-15 Thread Chewie

Yesterday I moved my FLAC library to a new HP MediaSmart WHS EX475
2gb/4tb, this evening I decide to scan the library into a clean
SqueezeCenter 7.2 and on five separate occasions now its failed.

On every occasion the scan reaches roughly the one hour mark and then
it states, as can be seen from the last screen grab that it has
“Finished Scanning” when it clearly has not.

The old library is scanned without any problems from my old desktop pc
when stored on an external disk. I have also downloaded the latest
7.2.1 nightly and the problem still occurs.

Could anyone offer some advice please, what should be a joyful play
with a new toy is rapidly turning sour?

Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to offer me some much needed
advice.

erland, excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by manually editing

If all else fails erland, is there a way to print out my existing

[slim] Moved my Music Library

2008-10-15 Thread Chewie

Yesterday I copied my existing Music Library from an external drive to
the shared music folder of my new HP MediaSmart EX475. All seems to
have gone well, the two libraries are bit perfect but should I be
worried about any FLAC file corruption? Excuse my ignorance but could
the FLAC files have been corrupted in the move and if it is possible
how do I check that my new library is ok.

[slim] Moving my Music Library

2008-10-03 Thread Chewie

In recent weeks I have consolidated my three separate music libraries,
hosted on three separate drives onto a single drive. This weekend I
plan to point Squeezecentre at the new library and was wondering if
there are any precautions I should take, any potential problems or is
it just a case of pointing Squeezecentre at the new drive and
instigating a complete rescan.

Having lost my Trackstat ratings once, I’m eager never to repeat that
problem again.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

[slim] Consolidating two separate Music Directories

2008-09-18 Thread Chewie

Over the years my music library has grown and grown first filling the
remaining portion of one external 500GB usb2 drive and then over
spilling and filling a second external 500GB usb2 drive.

I’ve just bought a WD 1Tb My Book Home Edition hard drive to
consolidate my music onto a single drive, which is at present spread
across the two separate external drives along with various other files.
I plan to keep the two existing drives as off site back up's for my
FLAC’s but can anyone offer some advice as to the best way to
consolidate the two existing separate directories without having to
resort to dragging and dropping individual files between the existing
and new directories.

Both directories are identical in structure i.e.

E or F:/FLACs/Interpol/Turn on the Bright Lights

Both obviously have some directories for the same bands but contain
different albums.

Can any kind soul offer a solution for a relatively pain free
transition.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Michael

No, the two screen shots that I’ve posted are what I see as soon as I
open SqueezeCenter.

In both of the above shots I’ve used my Controller to play an album on
my Transporter, Duet or SB3, which it does with no problems, I have
then opened SqueezeCentre and it just hangs there as shown. The loading
symbol keeps rotating in the right hand pane and nothing happens and if
I click on anything in the left had pane i.e. artist, again nothing
happens.

Also since clearing my Cache, my playlists no longer work, even though
I’ve initiated a scan and I’ve also tried to restore my Trackstat
ratings but no ratings re appear. :-(

I will try editing the line as suggested when I get home.

I must confess I’m a little disappointed in the Duet as an existing
user. If starting from scratch I can see it’s a great piece of kit but
as an existing user of a Transporter and SB3 I was looking forward to a
remote control with display and a few toys for maybe £100 or so but at
£250-300 it’s very expensive for that purpose.

I get the same message, but my message appears after I’ve installed the
program and started it running. It was running for over an hour this
morning and the message just kept popping up every 5 or 10 minutes,
after about 70 minutes I just ended it.

I use two of the same drives and they have worked faultlessly. I also
run a couple of the same drives but smaller as back up for my PC and
mp3’s and again they have both run trouble free for some years.

Re: [slim] Transporter price rise in UK?

2007-04-02 Thread Chewie

Well I received my Transporter on Friday after contacting at least half
a dozen suppliers before finding one with a Black one in stock. At
least two of the suppliers I contacted implied that there was a price
increase coming, now whether this was just a ploy to get me to back
order one from them I don’t know but read in conjunction with two
different people being told at Heathrow that there was a price hike
coming by the importer, it looks like I may have dodged a bullet for
once.

Re: [slim] Transporter II

2007-03-28 Thread Chewie

Hmm, no one has any Black Tranporter’s in stock and none are due for
at least another 4 weeks. Is this because of the recently announced
Logitech re-branding, or is something else also about to change?

[slim] Transporter II

2007-03-27 Thread Chewie

I’m about to relegate my SB3 to the bedroom and purchase a Transporter
but before I take the plunge, does anyone think there will be a
Transporter II anytime soon? As I would be sorely ** if I purchased
one this week and a couple of weeks later a Transporter II is
announced.

Anyone have any opinions.

[slim] UK Transporter Supplier ?

2007-03-25 Thread Chewie

Can anyone recommend a UK supplier for a Transporter please?

I was seriously contemplating buying one in December but following some
apprehension concerning its potential sound quality, I opted for the
lower risk option of a SB3 instead. Well 4 month on I’m convinced and
kicking myself that I did not purchase the Transporter in December when
a complimentary SB3 was included.

Before I take the plunge, does anyone think there will be a Transporter
II anytime soon?

[slim] Slooooooow response from 6.5.1

2007-01-25 Thread Chewie

Slooow response from 6.5.1

Could some kind soul please offer me some assistance, I’ve been
having problems with 6.5.1 since yesterday. I upgraded to 6.5.1 the day
it was posted on the forum with no major problems, it did kill all my
playlists but I just deleted and re installed them and all was well
again.

But I returned home yesterday and 6.5.1 is behaving like a pig, it
opens up ok from the taskbar and desktop but from then on it is
ridiculously slow. If I click on artist, album, playlist etc it takes
20+ seconds to refresh.

I am running XP Home SP2, IE 7, and MacAfee with my library on an
external drive.

As I have mentioned above, this problem only reared its ugly head
yesterday, prior to that, refresh was almost instant.

Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to offer some assistance.

I have just received a call from UPS customs clearance because it is
being delivered tomorrow :-) The total cost with VAT and the UPS
customs handling fee :-( is just over £216, thus it’s a little more
expensive than Amazon but I paid extra for express deliver to guarantee
I received it before Christmas. Without the express delivery and UPS
customs handling fee of £11 it would have been cheaper.

A little update, I decided to cancel my back order with Amazon early
yesterday morning and order an all black SB3 direct from Slim Devices,
low and behold by late evening I had received an e mail from Slim
Devices saying it has been dispatched and winging its way to me.

Now that’s impressive service :-)

[slim] Arrrrrrgh, The new SB3 Black

2006-12-05 Thread Chewie

Arrgh, The new SB3 Black

I ordered an SB3 from Amazon UK last Friday but they are on back order
with an anticipated delivery 16-18th of December.

Will I receive and old style SB3 or the new style black SB3? If it’s
likely to be the old style, I will cancel it and consequently miss out
on the SB3 for Christmas :-(

Can anyone offer a definitive answer please?

Regards

Carl.
