[slim] Strange artwork behaviour 7.01
When I first scanned my folder (containing one shortcut to a location) , all the artwork appeared correctly. I have set up the folder just to contain shortcuts as I have several locations. I then added another shortcut and rescanned. The new files added do not show the artwork in the album list or under artist>>album. However, when a track is selected the artwork appears (also on the now playing). Once a track has been played, the artwork is remembered. This behaviour happens on squeezecenter and the remote. [slim] SqueezeCenter 7.01 fails to start - Vista
This has followed on from an uninstall/reinstall following a scanning problem. I tried to clear and rescan my library due to artwork thumbnails not displaying. This did not work so I removed the shortcuts to my various folders expecting a clear and rescan to result with an empty library. How wrong was I! It appears that the scan went into an endless loop (continued for 6 hours until I decided to uninstall). Now that I have reinstalled, the app says it is starting but never does. Furthermore the endless scanning has started again! My folder being watched contained just shortcuts to different drives. I removed them and did and 'clear & rescan'. I then got into a spot of bother where the scanner went into an endless loop. I then uninstalled SC and reinstalled. The server would then not start! Event viewer indicated that there was a problem with SQL. I then uninstalled and installed 7.1. No joy. I then uninstalled and reinstalled 7.01 and miraculously the server started. I then did a 'clear and rescan', which cleared my library. I then reintroduced the shortcuts to my folder which SC automatically scanned and hey presto all my artwork appeared! [slim] Alien BBC - Five Live
All channels are working yet Five Live does not. It appears in 'now playing' but there is no sound. The timer keeps resetting every 30 seconds or so (rebuffering?). Five Live Extra works. [slim] Scanning problem 7.01 & 7.02
I've already reported a real bugbear in that the thumbnail artwork does not show up (artwork is there under 'now playing'). The response from support is that it has been passed to the devs. I've not heard anything nor can I find what has been fixed under the nightly 7.02. Trying to update my library is another matter. The cycle goes like this: 1. Add new music - no thumbnail artwork 2. Attempt a 'clear and rescan' - no effect 3. Attempt to clear library entirely by removing shortcuts [multiple drives]from by location folder. The scan takes hours (why?) only to find that all the tracks are still there. 4. Uninstall SC, install SC 7.1 5. Try steps 1-3 above - no effect. 6. Uninstall 7.1, reinstall 7.02 - somehow library than clears (can't tell you the exact course of events - it may have been shear chance and not as a result of uninstall/reinstall). I find that the scanner is flaky at best. Getting severely hacked off. Just done an upgrade and done a clean scan. If has duplicated every single track but not the albums. I want to exclude these form the artist view only to be shown under 'various artists' to leave an 'album artist' view. How do I go about this? I get this behaviour for added music. This has been the case since 7.0 and can only be resolved by doing a lengthy clear and rescan. I have to say I am totally bewildered.I am not sure SC can accommodate by desired preference due to a bug. My tags are set as follows: 1. Artist = [artist] 2. Album Artist = Various Artists I have the following set in SC: 1. Group compilations together 2. List albums by all artists for that album 3. Treat TPE2 MP3 tag as Album Artist Now in all the music managers I have tried, listing by 'album artist' excludes the compilation albums (naturally they are listed as a 'Various Artist'). Listing by 'artist' includes them. This is what SC is doing. Q. Is it possible for SC to list by 'album artist'? If so how (it is not practical for me to swap the artist/album artist field). To me setting the TPE2 as album artist should do the trick, but alas this does not work. It seems to me that a lot of people are disliking the fact that comps appear under the artist view by design. If you have many comp albums the artist view becomes cluttered. I think part of the problem is that I've got used to the way other apps work (e.g. Media Monkey, WinAmp) with regards the album artist tag, which for my entire collection ia set as 'various artists'. These bitters clutter up my artist view in SC. It will be too much hassle to change this notation. If I understand it right, my various artists are contained in the TPE2 tag which is what it is not really meant for.However I am interested in Philip's comment about the custom tag (called TXXX ALBUMARTIST)and that SC can be configured to fall back into a compatibility mode for mp3 files, where the id3v2.3 Band tag is interpreted as Album Artist. This will resolve the conflict with the apps that lazily use the album artist field (which most do). Other apps use album artist = various artists to define compilations This is no good in SC. Don't want artists cluttered with appearances on compilations. [slim] Compilation albums again
I have retagged my compilation albums with a comp=1 tag (SqueezeCenter indicates "Compilation: Yes"). However, no matter what Music Library setting I use, I cannot stop SC from listing appearances on a compilation album under a particular artist. This is the library structure: Home > Artists > Oasis > Cigarettes And Alcohol - 40 Modern Anthems. I do not want compilations showing here as there is already an entry here (as I am grouping compilations together): Home > Artists I do a full clear and rescan but nothing changes. TPE2 is populated by "Various Artists". What am I doing wrong?
