Roon Core/Server (think of these as LMS) -> Squeezebox Touch.

Roon Remote computer installs or iOS/Android devices talk to the above
Roon Core or Server. Think of these as something like iPeng.

It's the same way in the iPhone app, no browsable list of artists or
albums. You have to search, go through "what's new" or genres.

I've been running J River on a dead silent Atom based PC. JRemote on
the iPad to control it.

Really happy with the results, only missing feature for me is playlist

apparently.

I have 110,000+ tracks and I was forced to used a ramdisk for the cache

It's questionable whether SqueezeCommander is still supported by the
developer. Flatterman has completely dropped off the radar.

Squeezecommander isn't designed for tablets. Not many options for
smaller non phone android devices.

Retina resolution is the most important part of the iPad. Try reading
a magazine or book on the old fuzzy screen, it's horrible.

Sorry, but all images look better on the new retina screen, doesn't
matter if they are low res or not.

Your correct on the internet radio. I have a large enough music
collection that I can never get it all listened to so radio and other
streaming providers are my last concern.

As for gappless, I haven't tried that yet. I'll throw DSOTM on when I
get home tonight and see what happens. Thanks for bringing it up that
would be a deal breaker for me.

According to spoon, gapless needs to be dealt with properly by the UPNP
renderer. I would hope J River would do it properly, but I'll find out
tonight.

Well I'm now testing the following:

Asset UPNP, with a highly customized browse tree.
I have a small AsRock ION computer that is steatlthy quiet running
headless with J River as the UPNP renderer->WASAPI Event Style->M2Tech
Hiface
BubbleUPNP on my android phone.

Asset is free for basic functionality.
Any UPNP render will work. There are some dirt cheap options.
BubbleUPNP is $5 for the add free version.

If it works well over the next little bit I'll upgrade the hiface to an
Audiophilleo2.

My Server is a quad core i7 with 8GB of Ram, 7200 RPM OS drive, Raid 0
Music drive. My library is 110,000 tracks or so, 8500 artists. Some
artist may have 40+ albums under them.

Because of the initial cache, iPeng will bring up an artist and the
albums under the artist right away and then slowly shows the art. I've
already started scrolling and most times the art has shown up by the
time I get to the album I'm looking for.

If I have awesome wireless strength your progress bar and caching
happens pretty much instantaneous. But if I'm in certain parts of the
house there is a delay bringing up album lists while it caches.

It would certainly be nice to have an option to precache all artists
and albums. After a rescan in iPeng, I quickly go into the artists let
the cache happen and the same for all albums. It's part of my ritual,
but it gives me the best performance for the rest of my session and or
until my next rescan.

2012-03-18 Thread Jeff Flowerday

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80575

Question: Whats your highest priority ?

- More images of your music collection
- Playlist management
- Syncing Players Variation A
- Syncing Players Variation B
- MySqueezebox.com Integration
- TrackStat Ratings
- Caching of Album + Artist Lists
- Album Art Only Screen
- Better Search
- Something else - Please do the poll with different options !

I rescan almost daily.

The other thing I notice is the art in the lists in the left is really
fuzzy and bad in comparison to iPengHD. Looks especially bad on the
new Retina display.

Sorry, I don't want to come across as a hater. I would run yours daily
if these 2 issues for me were addressed. iPengHD has it's issues as
well, and I prefer your simple layout with current playing big art
showing all the time.

I installed squeezepad again the other day just to see where things are
with it...

Is there any chance you can do precaching of all artists/albums in one
shot similar to iPengHD. The caching delay every time I drill down
into an artist really annoys me.

I have allot of artists and albums and maybe this is just an annoyance
for me alone.

I had the same thing happening, it sees the name of the library but
would never connect. It turns out UDP packets weren't being forwarded
for 3483. Enabling them, fixed it right up.

So either you still don't have everything configured quite correct or
your router has a UDP forwarding bug.

Both TCP and UDP need to be forwarded for 9000 and 3483.

If you have the above configured properly. Disable firewall on your
computer, it's really redundant, your router is a firewall.

I'm wondering if the issue was modem related. Got the OTA update to
KL1 modem and things have been pretty stable since.

Which leads me to ask how does squeezecommander recover from dropped
connections and or switching radios in a middle of a download session?

Every device mounts the external sd card different. The Asus
Transformer mounts it as /Removable.

Adding a bunch of options for each device would be a pain. If you have
root access to your phone you most likely can change the mount point, I
did on my transformer. xda forums is a good place to look for this
type of information on your device.

A better option if possible might be if / was an option for the root
location and then we could just specify path after that?

I've had no crashing when transcoding from flac to mp3 on download. My
issue is the tags aren't transferred, so it's pretty useless. But I
think that's more a SBS limitation more than a squeezecommander issue.

the following to my wall:

Black Country Communion. Black Country from Black Country Communion.

Some of my friends might think I'm smoking something with this

What if we made mp3 the default for our iDevice. Will you let our
setting stay or you plan on overriding it to 128? I have a decent pipe
out of my house and would like better quality than 128 even when on 3G.

I'm glad I decided to do a v0 mp3 library for my portable devices. I
struggled to hear difference between them and lossless on my iPhone 4

Yah, I don't want it removing apps that are different. I'd rather pay

Man I hated the instant play when clicking on album art. Dozens of
times a night the playlist got blown away by friends clicking on the
album art. Even with the awesome "Party Mode" preventing this from
happening now, I still think it should be a long click on regular mode,
it's just not intuitive having instant play on the art and drill into on
the album name.

Mines all legal. I buy allot of dirt cheap used CDs at pawn shops etc.
I'm at 6951 albums right now. 2.5TBs of flac lossless.

It's impossible to listen to it all, but it's turned into a collector

Something Else:

I vote for better caching. I have thousands of artists, and I find it
annoying to have to wait 10+ seconds while the artist list is generated
on first use. My server is an overclocked quad core beast with lots of
ram and a Raid 10 disc subsystem. Wirless N network. Choosing all
albums is even worst.

A portrait view of some sort would be nice as well.

I could see how stamp size would look silly not scaled but all mine are

Is there another thread or a bug report for this? I wouldn't mind

Installing the latest nightly 7.6 didn't help.

If you go into current playlist, click edit, select all tracks and
delete them. You then close the current playlist popout and add a new
track to the current playlist. When you go back into the playlist it
doesn't show that track you just added.

If you click the save button but then cancel out it seems to cause a
refresh on the playlist and the tracks then properly show up.

I'm excited to see where you went with it.

I'd get the iPhone version, until you wait for iPeng HD. It's feature
set is more complete than squeezepad and you then would have it for a
touch or phone if you ever went that way down the road.

Run the beta R14 version until it's released. I'm running it right now
even though I have a license of 13.x and I've had zero issues so far.
