Re: [slim] Synchronisation problems squeezebox and squeezebox2
It has stayed in sync for a nearly a whole day now. I have been doing some reading up on VMs and time keeping is a known problem. They tend to drop interrupts and hence the time can drift, the recommendation seems to be to ensure they sync with a time server regularly (which I have done now). My SB2 had lost quite a lot of time relative to the server (~20s) and if it only goes forward in 5ms steps that might explain why it never caught up. In an early post you will see I thought the 7.3 upgrade fixed it, I suspect it was actually the fact that 7.3 upgraded the SB2 firmware and hence it did a resync. I appreciate that I might be in a minority by using a VM but would it be possible to allow the SB to reset its time at other times, for example at power on? Re: [slim] Synchronisation problems squeezebox and squeezebox2
The problem definitely seems to be time related. I reset the server so it was at the correct time but it took a while before the time on the squeezebox2 matched (the squeezebox seemed to be ok). Once the times matched then playing a track was perfectly in sync. Is there some reason why the squeezebox2 would drift away from the server time? -- Neil Sleightholm Neil Sleightholm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=131 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58797 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Synchronisation problems squeezebox and squeezebox2
awy - I have used many versions right from the early days but prior to 7.2 it was 7.1. Interesting about the clock, my server is actually Windows 2003 VM (VMware server is the host) and I have set the option to sync the time from the host but I am going to try letting it free run and sync with my time server. The DHCP config gives out this server and may be being used by the squeezeboxes but not the VM host (the VM host is not the time server). I'll report back what I find, thanks, Neil -- Neil Sleightholm Neil Sleightholm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=131 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58797 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Synchronisation problems squeezebox and squeezebox2
I have tried it with an MP3 and disabled FLAC (which I think means they both use WAV). With the MP3 I just tried, I hear the squeezebox start then 13s later I hear audio from the squeezebox2 but both displays show the same time, i.e. the squeezebox2 says it is 13s in to the track before I hear anything. If I unsync or turn off the squeezebox the squeezebox2 behaves correctly - it starts playing immediately. I have used synchronisation before I have never noticed this until I updated to 7.3.1 (and now 7.3.2). -- Neil Sleightholm Neil Sleightholm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=131 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58797 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I have several squeezeboxes and have noticed that I get a massive delay when trying to synchronise between squeezebox's and squeezebox2's, the delay is a about 2-3s with the squeezebox's first. I think the restarting is to do with the socketwrapper code. This listens for output from mplayer and sends it the slim code, if output stops the code restarts mplayer. This is required on Windows to overcome problems with piping data. The source of this is available in SVN if you want to take a look. This code was changed specifically from AlienBBC, it may be that there is something odd going on. If anyone wants to apply this patch I would recommend doing it to the 1.0pre7 version rather than the latest one in CVS. If anyone with this problem has time you could try running mplayer directly to confirm this is the same problem. The following command line will play the live Radio4 stream: mplayer -vo null -cache 128 rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio4/live/r4_dsat_g2.ra I find this this will run for anything from a few seconds to hours but eventually the output will be garbled. I think Triode's comment about "dynamic rate adaption" is probably true because I find this is worse for popular times of the day (Chris Moyles on R1 and the Archers on R4). Re: SV: [slim] AlienBBC for Win2K
Could you let me know how you got this trace? I would normal expect to see some output from mplayer. The "SW: Killing MoveData thread" bit indicates that the stream may have stopped responding. I see this quite a lot on live Radio streams - at peak times I think the BBC site is slow to respond e.g. Radio 1 chart show, Radio 4 Archers etc. Does the same things happen with a listen again item? Have you tried increasing the "Radio Station Timeout" in "Server Settings / Network", I set mine to 10s. Hope this helps Neil Peter wrote: > Hi, > > When I try this I get no sound and this in the log when I play Radio > 1: > > SW: Created Named Pipe: \\.\pipe\socketwrapper000696 > SW: Created child process with command line: > "C:\Programmer\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\mplayer. > exe" -really-quiet -vo null -cache 128 -af resample=44100:0:1 -ao > pcm:file=\\.\pipe\socketwrapper000696 > "rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio1/live/r1_dsat_g2.r > a" SW: Created child process with command line: > "C:\Programmer\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\lame.exe > " --silent -q 3 -b 0 - - > SW: Killing MoveData thread > > The plugin loads ok, and as far as I can see mplayer.exe and > codec-files is in the right place. Re: [slim] AlienBBC
I think moving the menus around would be quite hard (unless you want to hack the plugin.pm module!). How about giving you the option to remember the last menu you selected. That way if you always select from the playlist this is displayed first. The AlienStream name is a hangup from the past - I think we should change it to "Alien Playlist". Incidently did you know you can have sub-folders in the AlienStream folder and these are displayed in a hierarchical menu from the top level menu.
