Re: [slim] The Jamacian guy?

2008-08-21 Thread Skittler

Jamaican. He was awesome - don't like that word but I think that this
time it's justified :)

I wonder what his world record 100m time could have been if he hadn't
been looking around during the last 30m?

It was a bit strange to have one shoe untied. I suppose he could be in
danger of clipping at higher power. Do you think he'd get better
performance with balanced output? Maybe he needs a shorter run as well?
It could depend on the track. Would he get a better time during a
replay if he applied Smart Gain?

/OK, that's enough of that rubbish/

Audiophiles please chip in...

I'm talking about a dynamic playlist not a fixed one otherwise yes, I
could do what you suggest.

I use Erland's plugin. I wasn't talking about _always_ skipping that
artist (or album), just removing it during that particular listening
period. Creating a new Custom Skip rule each time isn't useful for
that.

This sounds much more like it. I'll have a go.

[slim] Radio Volume vs FLAC volume

2008-04-25 Thread Skittler

I notice that when listening to some radio stations such as RadioIO I
have to adjust the volume down by around 10dB (this is using the
'alternative volume display') to get the same level of output as when
playing FLAC.

If I have previously been playing some FLAC at high volume, and I
forget to adjust the volume setting before switching to radio (this
often occurs when I switch on my SB3 the following day), then I'm in
danger of breaking one or more of the following:
- my ears
- my speakers
- my windows

I'm assuming there's no way to control the overall volume of radio
stations either through SC7 or through SqueezeNetwork, so would I be
better off re-applying Replay Gain to all my FLAC files with a
different target level so as to 'bring them up to' roughly the same
volume as the radio? I have used FooBar2000 to apply Replay Gain.

-chinablues-, it is still there in SC7 in Fishbone. In fact I'm tempted

Try it.

Re: [slim] SB on bedside - wifi radiation ?

2007-11-28 Thread Skittler

To be accurate, the SB3 radiation doesn't cause hair loss; it causes
hair generation to migrate to parts of the body furthest away from the
SB3.

As you find less hair on top of your head, you'll discover it has
migrated to your back, ears, nose, etc, i.e. places you never had any
hair before and that are slightly further down the body.

I'm thinking of buying a Transporter and placing it on a table at the
foot of my bed. I'll never play anything through it but after a couple
of years I hope that I'll be able to visit the barber's and actually
get my money's worth.

Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread

1206 albums with 17402 songs by 575 artists.

Right then, now we've got all that out of the way, the question:

Slimserver.exe is using just over 500MB of memory. I've tried
rebooting, restarting the service, etc. but it's the same result.
1. Is this normal?
2. Should I be concerned?
3. Anything I should do about it?

original browsing/searching that you did to get to that Artist in the
first place.

I often use this facility with RandomMix. I frequently think "Oh, I
haven't heard that for ages, what was that other great track from that
album?", so I hit right & down to get to the "Album" info, then select
that other great track, press and hold Add to insert into the playlist
immediately next, and there you go. I get my 'great track' lined up
next, then it returns to Random Mix. Lovely stuff.

Re: [slim] Emergency Action Needed! - Save Net Radio!!

2007-07-14 Thread Skittler

But Mike, by the time the pain is noticed by the big boys in their
balance sheet months later, it will be too late for many of these
stations who won't be able to sustain themselves even for weeks -
certainly not months.

Also, it seems there's nothing we can do to help from this side of the
pond. Anybody know different?

[slim] mysql not performing a scan

2007-06-15 Thread Skittler

Please help!

SlimServer Version: 6.5.3 - 12227 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
Server IP address: 192.168.2.101
Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

Tried to do a full rescan. 0 albums with 0 songs by 0 artists. Hmmm.
Browse by Music Folder is OK.
New Music or Full scan still doesn't work.
Stopped SlimServer. slim.exe and mysqld.exe are not running.
Moved SlimServer\server\Cache folder out of the way (to My Documents)
Restarted SlimServer.
Still not scanning.
Uninstalled SlimServer and re-installed it.
Still not scanning.
Contents of SlimServer\server\Cache\mysql-error-log.txt are as below.
Any ideas? I don't know which Debugging flags would be useful (if
any).

Re: [slim] Album Art?

2007-06-12 Thread Skittler

You may want to batch rename them all to folder.jpg if you ever want to
use Moose. SlimServer works with either name, but I think Moose only
works with folder.jpg - for me, anyway.

Re: [slim] New (Logitech) Squeezebox

2007-06-08 Thread Skittler

I recently borrowed an older SB3 from someone (who'd not used it for a
while) and after I installed 6.5.2 the splash screen changed to
Logitech, so it seems to be a auto-firmware update that comes with the
SlimServer software.

My new SB3 turned up earlier this week. I gave my mate his SB3 back and
he phoned up last night saying "What the hell have you done to my SB3?
It says Logitech on the splash screen!"

Re: [slim] Delays from Amazon UK

2007-06-04 Thread Skittler

As I'd hoped in my earlier post, I collected my all-black SB3 in person
from Ripcaster on the way home from work and it's up and running
perfectly.
BTW, it has a Logitech logo :)

I think the power supply is different too. At least it's not the same
as I remember when I borrowed an older SB3 from a friend. His had the
old-style remote though, so maybe things have moved on in the power
supply area too. This one comes with UK and European 'prongs'.

Re: [slim] Delays from Amazon UK

2007-06-04 Thread Skittler

I cancelled my Amazon order at the weekend and re-ordered from
Ripcaster. I've just phoned Ripcaster to confirm they really do have
stock and I've arranged to collect my all-black SB3 from them after
work today (I work a couple of miles away from them in Reading). This
is better than Royal Mail leaving a card on my doormat and me not being
able to collect from a Post Office until Saturday. Very helpful - they
even offered to bring it round to my work address instead but I can't
get deliveries here as it's a secure site.

They say that they had a delivery of the new Logitech-branded SB3s on
Thursday so they suspect that the two month shortage is now likely to
be over. It's therefore possible that the Amazon orders will start
flowing now too, although they will presumably have to settle their
earliest orders first.

My Amazon.co.uk order (placed on 22 April, and originally delayed until
end of May) now has an expected delivery of end of July!

Is there anywhere in the UK (or Europe) that has all black SB3s in
stock?

Different sections of the text (and the icons of course) are clickable
