Optical does not support 24/192. If you sync players LMS sends files that the lowest spec player can handle, which means that it will downsample anything higher than 24/96 on the fly, assuming that you've connected one to a 24/192 capable DAC, and the other via the analogue audio outputs. The NSA310 processor couldn't run the script for running Spotty (Michael Herger's Spotify app), so another means of running LMS was required. My experience with Replaygain tags, and LMS using them, is that it's a decent facility, and can save a lot of effort rushing for the volume control. I used it for a good few years. It's not without cost though. I found that sound quality was better without it being used. I migrated the server over to a RasPi setup, and forgot to set the Replaygain facility on the new server. On switching between servers I found that with the RasPi server things just sounded better, and I wondered why. Eventually I pinpointed the setup difference, utilised the facility on the RasPi, and immediately noticed the step back in sound quality. Consequently I no longer use Replaygain as a matter of course. My listening habits are an album at a time, so it's not difficult to adjust from album to album. I never have got into using playlists, and it's only on rare occasions that I'll use the random play facility in LMS (when I will turn on Replaygain facility). Re: [slim] Zyxel nsa 320 squeEzebox server, No media folders Brownse please help
What you're trying to do is easy with a PC running LMS. Unfortunately you're not doing it with a PC running LMS - the NSA is a very limited capability machine (it's a file server), and processor intensive actions are not its forté. It can't, for example, resample files on the fly. The final post on the thread you linked to says it all. Can you not create another folder to place the folder you do not want to have scanned by LMS? There's no problem with the NSA, but your expectations of its capabilities might be too high. You need to access the Zyxel NSA via a web browser and as administrator. When you have the admin screen up go to "Media Server/Share Publish". I have all the boxes ticked from left to right on the share named "music". Once you've done that access LMS, do a clear and rescan, and Robert's your Mother's Brother. [slim] First "bedroom" system
Earlier on this week I finally succumbed to the lure of the Squeezebox Touch, largely funded by monies received as Christmas and Birthday presents (I'm a January Capricorn). This left the SB3 (nee Classic), which has given sterling service for the last 4 years with no role to perform. This has led to the SB3 being donated to my 10 year old son's first bedroom system. Lucky lad - I could only dream of having such a good music source when I was his age. I managed to rustle up some stopgap powered PC speakers (methinks a T-Amp and maybe a pair of Richer Sounds clearance speakers beckon), and these were duly hooked up to the SB3 via the headphone output. To cut a long story short, we've been listening to The Beatles (he really likes The Beatles), Thin Lizzy, Bad Company and Neil Young (with and without Crazy Horse), and having a whale of a time. My son is like a dog with two tails - he doesn't know which one to wag. I'm just happy that he's happy. He's also got access to a pretty large and eclectic music collection - I introduced him to Led Zeppelin last month, and they went down very well. We've also had a laugh controlling it all from a network connected computer, and also from my Android running SmartPhone, running Squeeze Commander. So lots of food for thought there too. So thank you Slim Devices for devising the Squeezebox, and thanks Logitech for catching the ball and running with it - you've made two souls here very happy, and you have our gratitude. Is the problem the QNAP itself - is there something needs installing to allow it to pick up the DS stream ? Has the QNAP sufficient processing capability to cope with the stream ? Is that wrong? The way I read it was that the DS Bridge stuff was written to work with the Windows version of Squeezebox Server. The QNAP runs on Linux. Hence the thing about it not working on Macs either, with their OS being derived from Linux. Re: [slim] Control Squeezebox from laptop
Just use the IP address of the serving computer with the Squeezebox suffix. The IP on my setup is http://192.168.1.75:9000/ the first part (http://192.168.1.75) is my serving machine, the second part (:9000/) being the Squeezebox suffix. Just find the IP of the serving machine on your network and you can access Squeezebox Server via your web interface (I use Firefox). The link seems to be the same as Radio Paradise - or rather, by some weird coincidence the 2 stations appear to be playing exactly the same tracks (that's 3 in a row so far). In which case this is a higher quality stream to listen to http://www.radioparadise.com/musiclinks/rp_128aac-1.m3u , provided that you use SC 7.3.3 or use the appropriate plugins and what have you on earlier versions of SC. One thing does ring true - we are two nations divided by a common language. I've silenced a dinner table over on the North American side of the pond with very innocent comments in (North Western)English. Re: [slim] Squeezebox not working on ethernet, works on wireless
Why not instal an ethernet cable (point to point wiring) to your location - RJ45 crimpers are not that expensive ? The only thing that puts most people off is the "effort" involved in installing ethernet. If you want the wiring spec for your country just ask. Homeplugs may work for some folks, but a lot depends on the crap on the mains etc. etc. Chris: -- Stratmangler Stratmangler's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20387 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55582 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] QNAP TS-109 and AlienBBC
Does the BBC allow streaming outside the UK ? I use the iPlayer plugin, and the listen again service streams at 128 kbs CBR. The listen live service streams at 65 kbs CBR. The reason for the difference, according to the BBC, is that they have to limit the bandwidth on the live streams due to demand. If this is the case then they may restrict streaming to UK based servers. Of course I could be talking absolute rubbish - if so ignore my comments.
