Re: [slim] Spotify is (soon) available for Sonos - What about Squeezebox?

2010-12-29 Thread TCM

Lifting this thread with a question. The swedish ISP Telia recently had
this ad (I've cut out this piece):

[image:
http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu77/hakanTCM/Faktiskt/Telia_SB_Spotify.png]

It says (among other things):

Logitech Squeezebox Radio is a wireless internet radio. Soon this
product will also support Spotify premium. Then you'll be able to
listen to thousands of radio stations around the world or *listen to
 Spotify without starting your computer*

The ad also featured SB Touch. Any comments? Do you think this is
Radio/Touch only or will I be able to use this with my SB2/SB3?

Of course, we always have the third party Spotify plugin which we have

I'm using Triode's plugin and I'm very happy with it. But I was
thinking about buying 'Excito's B3'

the plugin on the B3. And as I want my Spotify, this sounded as a great

Re: [slim] Please help me solve a SS .asx streaming problem

I haven't tried this yet, but hopefully it'll work for me.

If the stream is played OK on the receiver then the decoded stream will

lossless) and this bit stream will be played by the SB exactly as sent
by broadcaster. IT is possible to force SS to send the stream was WAV
or compressed as MP3 to the receiver.

That's great! Sending wav:s through my network won't be a problem,
since I have a wired network at home. Wouldn't it be preferable then to
skip the re-encoding process (into FLAC) just to spare my computer the
extra work?

Re: [slim] Swedish Radio as OPML

2008-03-12 Thread TCM

I e-mailed SR and asked my old question about metadata and got this
response (sorry about all Swedish here, but I guess it's primarily a

Re: [slim] Swedish Radio as OPML

2008-03-11 Thread TCM

Good work! I will e-mail them.

Another question that I've raised with the same person is song
information imbedded in the wma stream. I guess there's something
similar to id3-tags for wma streams. Last time I checked the Squeezebox
screen showed:

Artist: Sveriges Radio
Titel: P3 Svea - Sveriges Radio AB

The answer was: Det beror antagligen på att Sveriges Radio använder en
egen sorts taggning från utsändningen till webbspelaren och inte
standard-märking (ex ID3-taggning) i streamingen. (sorry about not
translating).

This was august 2006 and there was apparently nothing I (or they) could
do. Maybe it's time to raise the question again?

Yeah, bummer.
But I'm pretty sure that I've listed to some wma-channel that showed
meta data on my squeezebox screen. Is there some non-standard way you
could tell us about? That works together with the SB.

Quickie translation of the rest of my previous post:

It's probably becuase Sveriges Radio use their own sort of tagging when
transmitting to their web player and not standard (e.g. ID3 tags) in
 the stream.

Re: [slim] Logitech being absolutely OTT ?!

2007-08-04 Thread TCM

erland;218895 Wrote:
When comparing US prices and national Logitech site prices, remember to
add VAT on the US price.

 Transporter SlimDevices [US] + Swedish VAT(25%): SEK 17183:- [$2499]
 SqueezeBox SlimDevices [US] + Swedish VAT(25%): SEK 2596:- [$374]

The Squeezebox price actually doesn't seem that strange, a $299 product
in US is usually sold at about SEK 3000 ($446) in Sweden. So the
SqueezeBox price is quite normal in my opinion.

But the Transporter price seems strange, if the same percentage was
added as on the SqueezeBox this would give a price at about SEK 20060
($2983) which seems a lot more resonable than the current Logitech
 price at SEK 25000 ($3635)

Either this is an error on national prices on the Logitech site or they
have some sort of strategy to only sell Transporter devices to certain
 countries.

Hopefully, someone from Logitech will soon read this thread and give us
 some sort of answer.

Well, that's true, it was primarily the Transporter price I was
shocked about. *But* you've got a product (SB3), that's been on the
ever changing technology/home entertainment market for 2-3 (?) years.
The prices usually go down after a while (and they have, the 3 lowest
prices in Sweden 2495, 2749, 2789). I find it rather strange that
Logitech now sets a price of 2999 (incl. VAT I guess, but without
shipping costs). Who in Sweden do you think will buy from Logitech,
when the Swedish companies selling for a lower price are all well
known? [or maybe I'm just naive and they will raise their prices to the
same level as Logitech ;-D]

So many of those who ask questions just happens to drop by in the

But I'm still interested in the question about the copyright/no

[slim] Which windows version?

2007-01-31 Thread TCM

I have a choice of 3 different versions of windows to use together with
slimserver - XP Pro, XP MCE 2005 or Vista (not sure which version). I
have used XP Pro in the past and it has worked fine.

Do you know of any problems with the other two? I have seen some
special install instructions for Vista, but will it work fine after
that? Which version would you prefer?

There's no advantage of MCE over XP Pro except the media features. If
 you
don't need them, go Pro. If you need them, don't ask the question ;-).
 I

Thanks Michael!

My old computer is running XP Pro, but I received my new toy last
week with MCE (optional upgrade to Vista). I was planning to run some
linux distro and use the old box as a server (ClarkConnect or perhaps
your SlimCD or experiment with the new SlimNAS). But for the time being
I'll go with windows (no linux experience).

Would you recommened me to run MCE over Vista too (not together with
slimserver)?
