Does it have safari? You could just try one of the mobile skins, if they
are included with your version of LMS. I don't have the latest, but I
used to use the Skin for Nokia770, or alternatively the Touch Screen.

Unless you've comfig'd it yourself, DNS is probably not running on the
Mac.

NetBios name resolution should be working tho.

Just 'cause it's easier and works - why not use a router?

Re: [slim] Connect SB3 directly to Mac wirelessly without a router

2011-09-26 Thread alZmtbr

Do a search on "Ad-hoc network", it's do-able, but will require a Static
IP on the SB3, unless you can get DHCP running on the Mac.

The Mac's IP will be the gateway for the SB3. Not familar with Airport
wireless, but shouldn't be too much.

Is that enough info to get you started?

Cheers!

Re: [slim] Updating music files over the network

2011-09-14 Thread alZmtbr

Perhaps I am confused?

What has Win7? The SheevaPlug or another PC, a DeskTop?

Anyways... If the sheevaplug has UBUNTU or soem other flavour of LINUX,
then you will need SAMBA so that the music folder can be shared over the
LAN. You can then 'map the folder' as a Drive on the windows machine.
Once that is done, use whatever Sync software is you pleasure.

I use SyncToy to back up to an occasionally attached USB drive on the
XP Pro PC from my music folder on a UBUNTU 11.04 shuttle PC.

Cheers!

I had two non-capable HiRez players: an SB2 @90% signal strength; and a
SB3 @ 60% strength. I can play synched 24/96 down-converted to 24/44.1
no problem - if I take the SB2 out, then it gets down converted to
24/48 as expected. This was with an OLD PC XP SP3 2.4GHz 1GB Ram and

SO... I suspect the GuruPlug as well.

Also you might want to check for fragmentation due to MTU (Packet size)

Re: [slim] How do I export an iTunes playlist for use with SC?

2010-02-21 Thread alZmtbr

I don't get what the problem is... perhaps there is confusion as to what
is displayed on the WEB UI, or SB display and what is contained in the
m3u (playlist)files? One is display formatting ONLY, set by yourself,
the other is t do with how you set your file/track format. I checked my
playlist files and they are of the same format whether generated by
iTunes, or SBS. Agreed tho, that if you're trying to make them
'portable', then the drive and directory structure may have to change -
but why not try and make those the same?

I have two FLAC files of Rebeca Pidgeon doing "Spanish Harlem", one is
24/96 the other us 24/88.2. But in both cases they are down sampled to
44.1KHz -- or should I say, the sync light on my DAC indicates 44.1KHz.
I would have expected for the 96KHz file for the 48KHz sync light to
show activity.

Have I missed a setting somewhere? Current SBS is the 7.4.2 nightly

Yep, it's using the wrong DHCP server - do you know how to manually
enter the IP? Make it look like the other devices on your net
192.168.2.X, with the X being something like '100', and the gateway
being '1', just make sure there are no conflicts. Works better anyways
with the server having a static IP. Or you could change all the masks
to be 255.255.0.0 - but that's not quite 'correct'!

avta: the problem isn't with the SB - it was able to connect to
SqueezeNet, so that is good. The problem is that the server has the
wrong IP for the network: as observed by Mark Lanctot.

Liggy: Do this - open up a command (start>run 'cmd', ENTER) window on
the XP machine, and run 'ipconfig /release /renew', then paste back
here the results of 'ipconfig /all'. (right click, then 'Mark'
highlight then paste into notepad.

perhaps the wall socket connection itself is 'flakey'? Do you have a
loopback connector? If so, plug it into the socket and see if you get a

How is the switch 'uplinked' to the router, if any? Some devices still
need a 'default gateway' to function properly - arp broadcasts
seemingly not being enough.

Good luck!

perhaps it has to do with your local ISP? Where you are is probably
tracked by your public router's IP address. If your ISP is in a

For myself I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - but for awhile, my wife
from Toronto (400Km away) was fialing into the Ottawa ISP - so local
was Ottawa, not Toronto.

A while back, perhaps after an AVG or Zone-Alarm update, the SB3 won't
connect after restarting the PC (XP Pro). My lazy-ass solution is to
restart the Slim service, either by right clicking the tray icon, or

An annoyance for me -- but down right infuriating for the wife...

Is there a command line to start/stop the slim service? I recall that

Re: [slim] Playing .m4a files?

2008-11-01 Thread alZmtbr

On WinXP you need LAME and Quicktime to play and remote stream m4a
files. Quicktime to transcode to FLAC on the fly (to stream locally),
and then LAME to transcode to mp3 for remote streaming, or to stream to
wireless mp3 players (Nokia tablets, cell phones etc).

Re: [slim] continuous play or repeat question

2008-10-18 Thread alZmtbr

I don't think the option to repeat an album exists, but could be wrong.
It's repeat current track, or the entire playlist.

Now, track 4 and continue to play from that point forward? I would
think that one would need to add the entire album to the current
playlist, then advance or start playing from the desired point -- the
rest of the playlist would then play.

Re: [slim] Cannot find iTunes music with SC7.2

Just doing some free thinking here... the iTunes library that slim reads
is the XML library in my account - if my wife adds to iTunes via her
account, that addition won't be added to my library, my XML file isn't
updated - hence it won't be added to the slim database. A leap here -
do ALL of the folders in your music library have the same permissions

Re: [slim] iTunes Playlists Aren't Complete

2008-08-22 Thread alZmtbr

Where is your iTunes XML library file located? Also is your music folder
on the same machine as hosting SS/SC? Where was the IP conflict
exactly?

iTunes is a bit of a pain... if you have it set to 'keep my library
organized' it'll blank things out if your music folder is offline,
disconnected etc. So, SS/SC rescanned your music folder, but perhaps
used a 'stale' iTunes XML file, or couldn't find it at all.

SS will also count separate folders as different albums, even if the

Re: [slim] Problem with itunes playlists

Here's a snippet from one of (my wife's) PlayLists ---

#CURTRACK 0
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,Beware Of Darkness
E:\iTunes\Compilations\Concert For George [Disc 2]\2-05 Beware Of
Darkness.m4a
#EXTINF:-1,Fast Car
E:\iTunes\Tracy Chapman\Tracy Chapman\02 Fast Car.m4a
#EXTINF:-1,When Doves Cry

So it does contain the path to my music folder - "E:\iTunes\..."

If you are looking in the library XML files, the playlists use keys to
reference the tracks, if you follow the keys back then there is a path
there as well ... plucked at random --
key>Locationfile://localhost/E:/iTunes/Cowboy%20Junkies/Early%2021st%20Century%20Blues/08%20Isn't%20It%20A%20Pity.m4a
File Folder Count4
Library Folder Count1

4398

Track ID4398
NameNo More
ArtistCowboy Junkies
ComposerTraditional arr. Cowboy
Junkies

So these are all correct? Well, I guess my WAG wasn't correct!

[slim] Nokia 770 skin

2008-07-08 Thread alZmtbr

Recently, in the last few days, my Nokia 770 has 'no body' in the 'now
playing' and doesn't respond in the playlist '+' push. Anyone have any
idea what's going on? Nothing's changed as far as I know on the
server/PC side (win XP Pro Sp2, with AVG 7.5 and ZoneAlarm - slimserver
6.5.3).

Substituted the 770 skin with the touch skin - same behaviour. The dark
bar at the top behaves as it should, but the main body is unresponsive.

Just checked - renders OK, and behaves correctly in Mozilla FireFox on
the host PC.

So my Nokia is pooched?

Clues please!

[slim] AA+ Noise

2008-06-17 Thread alZmtbr

My wife insists on buying from the Apple iTunes music store...

On two that she has bought (Sweet Pea Atkinson with Don Was), at the
end of the tracks, there is a noise burst, perhaps 6~8 seconds in
duration. Has anyone else experienced this? Her suggestion was to just
edit out (audacity?) the trailing edge of the file - Is this plausible?
I haven't confirmed this - but she says that this noise also occurs when
playing back thru iTunes.

I don't understand your understanding of my post? My original post was

Re: [slim] Can't open Slimserver

2007-08-19 Thread alZmtbr

In the Start>Run box, type in services.msc, the hit enter.

Scroll down to find SlimServer and SlimServerMySQL. Are both running
and start type automatic? If not running and they won't start (right
click> start) then open a command window and start with the debug
options (I've never had to do that so search the forums here), then
paste the output into this thread.

Re: [slim] i Tunes question

2007-08-10 Thread alZmtbr

As wifey and I share the same iTunes directory but separate XML files -
sometimes duplicates -- massive duplicates sometimes -- occur. On more
than one occasion I've deleted everything (keep music files of course!)
then re-imported the iTunes directory. Playlists get lost if you are not
clever about exporting those to a safe place.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox can't connect via WLAN

2007-08-08 Thread alZmtbr

Have you tried powering EVERYTHING down, then bringing items back on
line in order? NetGear, LinkSys, PC then SB3?

I need to do this occasionally when I get the symptoms you describe -
my linksys router gets into a funky state and power cycling it seems to
clear it up.

Now if I could only get my LinkSys Wireless PrintServer to be as
reliable as the SB and Nokia770 then all would be well.

Hey! It's a SLIMDEVICES logo!! Yeah, me to - I don't like the logitech

Going to 6.5.2 did sort out all sort of 'artist' wrong count issues tho
- but some still remain.

Try re-entering the WEP. On my first attempt - not familar with the
response of remote, etc - I ended up with a space on the end of the
WEP. After experiencing what you describe, I did a factory reset start,
and re-entered everything - and she worked!

Best luck!

Re: [slim] Cause/fix for an infrequent high frequency "SCREECH"?

2007-05-09 Thread alZmtbr

Well... I just caused mine to SCREECH!! I was adding a new set of music
thru iTunes interface and also playing the same tunes thru SS/SB3. Went
to update the album art and... when iTunes added to the file that was
currently playing - SCREECH of about 5~7secs with an alac.exe error pop
up window. Ooops! I guess that shouldn't be done. It recovered and
picked up on the next selection.

But most likely not what caused your error - unless something is
opening and hijacking the files on your system?

Re: [slim] home network wows

2007-05-08 Thread alZmtbr

It is often easier to 'pull' files, then to 'push' them. ie log into the
recieving machine, open up 'explorer', then either map a drive from the
sending machine, or in the "run" box type in using UNC the folder
(\\) you want to copy from - then drag-and-drop!
If the usernames and passwords are not the same, then you will also
need to authenticate.

Also consider 'remote desktop' vice VNC. Not sure if is native on XP
but you should be able to get it from Micro$oft.

Happy Trails!

Re: [slim] Certain artists not appearing in Slimserver library with itunes...

2007-04-26 Thread alZmtbr

Well for me anyways...

Search on "Sting" gives the results as it should: Albums with "sting"
in the Album name and also in the artist categaory. In my library there
was only '1' album with "sting" in the Album name - hence only '1'
showing. When I clicked on "Sting" in the artist category, all 5 albums
showed.

But in my manipulations I did finally get the thumbnail for 'Sacred
Love' to show up!

Re: [slim] Certain artists not appearing in Slimserver library with itunes...

2007-04-26 Thread alZmtbr

On a tip from another thread, replaced "Sting" in composer with "Gordon
Sumner". Clear, rescan. Still only the one album (of five) shows up
when searching on Sting. Guess it is time to try 6.5.2 even tho that
doesn't fix (from above).

And have a better look at the existing Tags...

Could GraceNotes be mucking something up??

My wife has accepted the SS/SB wholeheartedly - but rejects the remote.
"Her" stereo NAD/PSB is adjacent in the open office(SS) sitting area in
the front of the house, the SB is connected to "my" stereo
Bryston/energy in the TV lounge at the back of the house. She only asks
of me to have the inputs on the "go between" pre-Amp to direct the
signal to her stereo and she listens mainly while working at the PC.

These rooms are on the 2nd level of the house - the
kitchen/dining/sunroom on the first level all have inwall or ceiling
speakers fed from one of the upstairs systems.

So the audio side of things is fairly 'simple'. It is the lighting
where she says if I should die first - if any of the X10 integrated
alarm system/programs failed, she wouldn't even know where to begin.
And the house would be unsellable.

Also I can't get her to switch from IE to FireFox!! Darned thing makes
a noise with every refresh!

Re: [slim] Network Setup Help

2007-01-31 Thread alZmtbr

If you have configured ZoneAlarm to notify you for network access, then
when you fire up your browser http://localhost:9000/ a ZoneAlarm
notification window should pop up. Check the boxes for 'allow' and
'remember this setting' or some such (I'm at work - so can't verify on
my home machine).

You will then get a notification for port 9038(?) as well - do the same
for that port (allow and remember).

While you're there verify the IP address of the server as well...

Good Luck!
~Allan.
