thanks gary. It appears that there is a way to do it. I sometimes use Switch Sound File Converter which let's me convert and select out to same folder-it's just slow. I have a backup already. The reason I am doing this is that my primary music folder is on a 1 TB HDD which has only about 30 G free space. backup is a 1.5 TB HDD so it has plenty of space. I bought a 2 TB Toshiba external from Amazon for $64 which I thought was a great price. The plan is to use the 2 TB as the primary and then take the 1 TB and convert everything to mp3 and give it to my son who only uses mp3s. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106109 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Was playing w freefilesync earlier and ran into the following issue. It appears that it looks at and compares files within a folder but not the folders themselves. What I did was load a folder into the left side and then selected a destination location on the right. The folder did not previously exist in the location folder on the right. The files then appeared in the location on the right, but not the folder itself. I would guess I am missing something settings wise. Re: [slim] Original Slim Devices?
I have 2 Squeezebox Touch units. I bought them to be able to more easily manage the music that I already had. Sifting through physical media was and continues to be a pain when one chooses to do so. Certainly there is a large maintenance component to a digital music library. Luckily, I have the time and inclination to do so. Streaming music services have never had any appeal to me, so that is not an important facet of LMS/Squeezeboxes for my purposes. From my other recent post one could also see that I am adverse to paying for something I feel I do not need. It seems that many/most these days think that such a method of obtaining what they want to hear is the way to go. That's fine with me, just not my style. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104968 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Squeezebox was the opposite of that. Of course I may be wrong, but I think this is a pretty accurate assessment of what has transpired. That being said I applaud those who continue to maintain the LMS system. Not being the fan of the numerous subscription music "systems", they hold no interest for me. Re: [slim] Document your collection
I am not at all familiar with working with PDF files. I was thinking earlier today that there should be some way to do a search of a PDF file so I did a search on the web. If one clicks edit and then selects Find one can do a search. The point being I did so today and plugged in tofu-from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones UFO tofu. For some reason it showed up in Various Artists as well as another Bela folder along with 2 other folders. One of the other folders had different artists within the folder. The other did not. As steve-g stated earlier a Clear library and rescan everything resolved the issue w the Bela folders and the other folder that did not have issues that would lead me to believe it would turn up under Various Artists. Why these showed up under Various I have no clue as I have modified numerous folders in the last few days that did not show up under Various Artists As far as the Artist count thing goes I have no clue but wonder if somehow there might be something in Extended Tags that causes it. If only there was a simple way to determine what Artists folders were not picked up. Of course it might be that LMS picks up additional artists due to some tagging issue as well. Someone way smarter than me may figure that out. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104566 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Searching for how to open the file I inadvertently changed how that file type opens to Adobe Acrobat Reader and do not know how to change it to what it should be. Told you I was dumb. The results I got mirrored the LMS control Panel for the # of Albums and the number of Tracks. For some reason the number of Artists is 8 less w the app than LMS reports. [slim] LMS and two networked computers
I recently bought a 2nd computer a laptop. Eventually my desktop will die and I wanted a laptop for travelling. I have the same version of LMS installed on both the desktop and the laptop. Yesterday I set up LMS on the laptop to read the library attached to the desktop and scanned the library. The scan ran for hours and would not complete. I restarted the scan at least once and left it running overnight This morning it had completed. It for some reason shows 161 fewer tracks than LMS running on the desktop. Is this possibly just LMS total track numbers not being reliable ? I will probably run a new and changed media files scan and see what happens. I have also set up a homegroup to share files between the two computers. I can control my squeezeboxes from the laptop using LMS installed on the laptop, or by accessing LMS on the desktop using the homegroup. Is there a preferred way between the two methods ? For those of us not familiar w the Linux OS will that not cause issues, or have you figured out a way to keep it simple/stupid for folks like me ? Glad to hear that there appears to be progress being made and a new unit being on the market in the not too distant future. Probably has to do w how I have it setup. I do pretty much what you do, only I have the filename and then the artist and no compilation tag. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101474 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Reasons why an album does not show up in the correct place in music folder list?
A lot of people have issues with compilations. Maybe that's why I never use them. I instead use a title I will recognize as a compilation. It might be nice if one of those knowledgeable in the area could put together a wiki of sorts of how to use compilations properly along with what not to do. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101474 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Reasons why an album does not show up in the correct place in music folder list?
Have you checked the tags ? How the folders are named/labeled is of no significance. What matters are the tags for the albums. For example I can have a folder named 7-16-2001 Grateful Dead. If that is how the album is tagged in the Album Field it would show up at the top of the list as #s appear before letters. If it is tagged as Grateful Dead 7-16-2001 it would show under Grateful Dead. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101474 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Reasons why an album does not show up in the correct place in music folder list?
You say some of them do not show up in alphabetical order. From that I gather that some Miles Davis and Bill Evans show up in the correct spot alphabetically. Is That correct ? It also sounds as if you are searching LMS using My Music, Artists and then the problem folders/albums do not show where you think they should be ? If that is the case what I would do is to look at the tags in MP3Tag for both the ones that show up correctly and the ones that do not. This sounds like a tagging issue of some sort. Also look at the extended tags by highlighting the album and then right click, select extended tags. This will show tags one would not see in the normal view. The tagging process is tedious but not all that difficult. It is best to develop a scheme that works for how you want things to appear and to follow it in an almost anal manner. Also be sure to check the tags of albums that you may download over the internet, and/or tag using internet databases. Their tags may not fit the scheme you want to use. If they are tagged using an internet database check them after you Ok them, do not rely on what you see in the limited fields available prior to making the selection. Again more detail would be helpful. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101474 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Reasons why an album does not show up in the correct place in music folder list?
More detail would be helpful. You speak of the metadata of the songs. What about the tags of the albums themselves. The folder name is inconsequential unless the tags mirror it. dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101474 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
