Re: [slim] Thin Clients as music servers ?
the linked amazon deal is strange. The picture is for a small gt7725 that has onboard radeon. The FireMV would be a double wide. HP ThinPro GT is a customized debian lenny. They are basic PCs with an external power brick. I don't remember if they have a fan (The FireMV has one, but i forgot about the CPU). Your Problem is the mass storage. The have in integrated ide44 flash modul with 1GB. You can't add any internal drive. So you would need to add an external USB drive. Performance wise they would be fine. Noise level is fine. Re: [slim] Why's this site so slow these days?
the timeouts in between can be routers that discard the package without a reply. I also have problems with some of the slimdevices.com servers. I haven't analyed it in depth, but for me the skins.slimdevices.com server seems to close http connections. As it looks like there is also at least one loadbalancer there can be many reasons. One guess i have is a unclean connection close after the last image. i get the page rendered. But around one minute later the page load indication stops. The onload event is triggered only after a timeout. Maybe an aggressive connection close/recycle on the loadbalancer? Or the LB running in its connection limit? for what it is worth, here is a trace. Re: [slim] Licenses Agrrement for SqueezeBox-Server
*bump* the license agreement http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.4/tags/7.4.2/server/License.txt states Code: Squeezebox firmare may not be redistributed under any circumstances. It is (c) Slim Devices, and additonally contains code which is (c) Ubicom. Ubicom's code is licenced to us only for direct distribution in binary form. You may use the firmware only on hardware manufactured by Slim Devices. I think this is about the files in http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.4/tags/7.4.2/server/Firmware/ (so all older SB-Devices). So the question is, if it is allowed to: * make a custom SB-Server Package (or system image) including the Firmware. Downloadable free of charge, maybe integrated in a repository (apt, yum) * make a package without the firmware, but automaticly download and install the firmware from svn.slimdevices on first start * make a package without the firmware, inform the user about the license, then automaticly download the firmware from svn.slimdevices. * automaticly download an official package from slimdevices on first start i would welcome an offical statement and a reason why redistribution is not allowed. I guess the firmware contains/used licensed code (mp3 decoder, fpga compiler, ip stack, ...) that is not allowed for redistribution, but i can only guess. -- fragfutter fragfutter's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35184 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76579 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The receiver will continue to receive the stream. I will never notice because the amp of the receiver is turned off. So it will happily stream the whole night. So i need to remember pressing pause, or need to remember to scroll through the controller and turn receiver off. Just wanted to collect ideas how you handle this. I mean the controler has no indicator if the controlled device is on or in standby and has no (hardware) button to power it off. can i figure out (in software) if the controller is in the craddle? Having the controller in the craddle for more then one hour is a very good indicator (for me) that the receiver needs to power off. I think i will look into this and do some tests. -- fragfutter fragfutter's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35184 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75849 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Synchronize Play without Power
How do you power off the SB Receiver? I'm running a SB Radio and a SB Receiver. Those two are synchronized, but only audio, not volume or power. When i start to listen to some music on the radio, i can go over to the other room, switch on the amp and voila, same music. What happens if i listen to an internet station and simply turn off the radio? The duett keeps on streaming. I won't notice because the amp is powered off. Not very nice to the internet station. Which options do i have to prevent this? Press pause before turning off. Ok, i do this at the moment. But i will forget this... Power the duett off with the amp. But then the controller looses the receiver and switches over, controlling the radio. Sync Power. But then the radio starts to run the moment i listen to the main system. Write a small script that checks if i'm still streaming at three in the morning and at least stop it then. Any other ideas? -- fragfutter fragfutter's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35184 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75849 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Western Digital NAS Festplatte - WD My book World Edition II
and repeating the same post every week... AFAIK the western digital is based on a OXE800SE. That is a 200MHz ARM. Too slow. I have no idea about the memory. But the chip maxes out at 64MB. I assume it's lower. So that is not enough. Additionally this is not a system that is supposed to be modified by user software. -- fragfutter fragfutter's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35184 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75275 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Moderator Wiki
Who is doing administration and moderation of the slimdevices wiki? Could this admin/mod please remove the spam pages? And it might be a good idea to require mandatory registration before editing (yes against typical wiki philosophie, but there are not enough active users to filter anonymous edits) -- fragfutter fragfutter's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35184 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74373 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Moderator Wiki
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Category:Spam every other week some robot auto-registers and leaves some spam and it looks like it never leaves the system (gets deleted). Keeping bots like this out either requires captcha, or email verfication (yes can be automated, but too much trouble for most bots) -- fragfutter fragfutter's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35184 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74373 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
