[slim] For Sale: IQ Audio Codec+, IQ Audio DAC+ (2015 Design)
I have these for disposal in my efforts to prepare for downsizing. I always thought that IQ Audio were the Betamax of the Codec world, losing out to HiFiBerry probably due to better marketing. They were picked up by Raspberry Pi after finding the going tough but to my knowledge Raspberry Pi don't offer the Codec+ The Codec+ can act as a DAC (Headphones Out) in your PiCore network and also has RCA inputs that are addressable through squeezelite and can stream mp3, flac or wav through your piCore network. (Say from a tuner or other hifi device). A good device for the desktop. The DAC+ is a few years old but has always worked flawlessly in my pCP network. Prices are cheap and really not worth Ebaying so I'm offering the pair here for £20.00 including postage (UK Only) if anyone is interested please PM me. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=117123 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Sony Blu-Ray DVD Player for SACD recording (Free)
I have a Sony BDP-S4100 Blu Ray player which can be used for SACD ripping, if used with the Sonore ISO2DSD Windows ripping software and a USB Thumbdrive which boots the player into a sleep mode which permits SACD ripping. It's one of a small number of Sony BDP's that can be booted in this way. The thumbdrive is included and it includes a copy of the procedure and the Sonore software. I bought the Blu-Ray player second hand some years ago and it works flawlessly in this application. It probably works as a Blu-Ray player too but I haven't used it in that configuration. It's not much to look at. Looks like someone cleaned it with a Brillo Pad. But the insides are fine and works flawlessly. It's free to anyone who wishes to collect. I'm not going to post it. And will go to charity if no-one is interested. [slim] Headphone Amp & Headphones for sale
I'm about to put my Topping A90 (Silver) headphone amp and AKG 702 (Black) Headphones on Ebay for a combined price of £330.00. Both items are in near perfect cosmetic condition and working perfectly. Even though the headphones have been used for about 18 months there is no headband wear and the earpads are in great shape. Both the original boxes have been canibalised to some degree to meet other purposes here in the household so are not included. The headphone amp comes with a mains lead and a high grade RCA/RCA stereo lead (1 metre) The headphones come with no less than eight mini-xlr connector leads. I prefer the ones made by Custom Lynx as they are sturdy and well made. (3 included). Items are for sale here in UK only and price includes delivery. Will reduce price by £30.00 for anyone who wishes to collect them here in Sutton Coldfield. PM me if your interested. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=117040 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Moving On - In A Good Way
I've been using LMS and it's predecessors since I got a Slim Devices SB3 as a Christmas present in 2005 and I've no thoughts of leaving. Over the intervening years devices have come and gone and as my inevitable uptake of the new devices as also come and gone I have ended up with cupboards full of devices. So in the interest of a quick disposal of some of these "spare" devices I am selling a job lot of them at a really knock down price with only two provisos. 1. Payment by Pay Pal in full before collection is arranged. 2. Buyer must collect from me here in North Birmingham, UK. These two provisos are non negotiable. I'm not disposed to sell them separately on Ebay as I might have done in the past. So for a no quibble price of £150.00 I have all the following for collection. 1. Re: [slim] FM Radio
I use my RevoSuperConnect Radio Audio Out connected to The Audio In of an IQAudio Codec+ and set up in pCp like this: And with a favourite set in LMS like this: Notes. You can use the /W suffix to specify WAV output on the stream as well as the /M or /F in the (more) notes on the gui. The latency is then about 1 second. (Thanks Ralphy for fixing this for me) The audio output on this radio is always 100% and totally independent of the radio's speaker volume control so the radio can be silent while still streaming. It streams anything the radio plays, in this case AM/DAB/FM/Internet Radio etc etc so I have the entire FM band in high quality WAV format as well as all the other options. The IQAudio parts are now part of the Raspberry Pi line-up but last time I checked they weren't producing the Codec+ but I believe there is an equivalent Hifi Berry card. +---+ |Filename: Favourite.JPG| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37311| +---+ *Study Server/Player:* LMS 8.2.0 on Pi 4B pCp 8.1.0/IQ Audio DAC+ *Refurbished 1962 RCA Stereo Console Player *pCp 8.1.0 on Pi4b/IQ Audio DAC+ *LAN Player* pCp 8.1.0 on Pi 3B / IQ Audio DAC+ *LAN Player/ADC* pCp 8.1.0 on Pi 3B / IQ audio Codec + *PC Players: x2: *Squeezelite on Windows 10 PC. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116021 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've been ripping CD's to flac for years and have noticed this effect throughout. Re: [slim] Raspberry Pi 4 and DAC on daughterboard.
I use the Pi 4 with an IQ audio DAC+ HAT (daughter board). I find the DAC+ to have a very high specification and it's quite a bit lower in price than some of the USB DACs. It's easy to integrate into piCore as it already has a dt_overlay which is selected by the piCore GUI. The biggest issue with the DAC+ (or most other daughter boards) is that their are no official Pi 4 cases that I know of which accommodate HATs. In the case of IQ Audio they say it is due to heat issues in the Pi4 which are not easy to mitigate in a case with a DAC attached. I have not yet seen a case for any type of DAC Hat for the pi 4. However piCore has addressed the issue by incorporating the latest kernel which manages the heat generation very well. I have made an open sided case from old IQ Audio case which has open sides. (There are no official sides for any DACS and the open sides also allow for heat dissipation). The piCore/4B combination runs about 4 degrees C hotter than the 3B equivalent I have four DAC+'s in my system, two pi 3B with official cases and two pi 4B with these modified cases. Re: [slim] Frontier Silicon
Not sure whether the issue with my Frontier Silicon Radio is co-incidental or from the same source. I've raised a ticket on the new Frontier web page for the Sports Extra issue. The new web page explains my issue but my previous Frontier login doesn't work there. [slim] Behringer Ultra Curve Pro DEQ2496, Topping VX2 DAC/AMP, Pi3B and Chromecasts
I'm about to put the above on EBay as a job lot. It's a bit of a pain to sell as the Behringer doesn't travel well and the other three items require seperate packaging and posting. They've mainly been replaced by a good soundbar which performs all their functions with just one mains cable. So in the spirit of re-using and not dumping electronics I'm offering them here at a give-away price with the proviso that they must be paid for in advance of collection by PayPal and collected here in Sutton Coldfield, UK. Absolutely no postage considered including buyers own courier. Will not split and price is £100.00 for the lot and no returns. Behringer DEQ 2496 equaliser used in optical SPDIF line with Topping DAC Amp. Requires some learning but comes with electronic pdf handbook and mains cable. Has a generic problem in that the internal ribbon cables between boards can work loose due to vibration. This unit has suffered from this problem in the past but has worked fine for the last 12 months. Topping VX2 DAC/Amp has USB/SPDIF optical and coaxial inputs and can hand 24/96 audio. Comes with dc power block and paper handbook. Needs a figure of eight mains lead. Pi 3B comes with well used case, 3A power supply, FLIRC USB Dongle and Now TV Remote. No Documentation. No Micro SD Card. Previously used as a PiCore Player with HDMI out using Jivelite. A relatively easy implementation of a high quality player. Chromecast Audio and Chromecast Video (Original Versions) come with a plethora of leads and power supplies including the relatively unknown network through USB power supply and optical mini jack cable for the chromecast audio. No Documentation. Re: [slim] IMPORTANT: Stop forwarding your LMS ports to the internet!
I have been using my Synology NAS, which sits behind my cable TV router, as a VPN Server for connections to my LAN from remote locations. The only use I have for this is for using LMS/Player combinations, usually but not exclusively on my Android Phone, on the rare occasions that I am away from home. The only port that is open on my router is that which is required by the Synology NAS VPN plugin and this port is forwarded by my cable TV router. I have been following, but not fully understanding this thread, for quite a while and thought I'd better ask the question. I'm not sure I'm up to setting up and understanding all the logging that is needed to examine this issue and it wouldn't be too much of a wrench for me to simply stop doing this as I must admit my use is rather more experimental than useful. My only significant discovery has been that my free hospital wifi blocks the Synology VPN port and I have to revert to a 4G phone connection which can be expensive if used for any significant time. *Music Store: *Synology DS215J NAS* Home Server/Player:* LMS 7.9.1 on Pi 3B piCorePlayer v3.22 Server/IQAudio DAC+/Amp+ *Portable Server/Player:* LMS 7.9.1 on HP-DV2700 Laptop/Ubuntu 17.10 with synced music drive. *Homeplug LAN Players: *Pi 3B piCorePlayer v3.22/HDMI/Jivelite, Squeezelite on Windows 10 PC *UPNP Wifi Players:* Chromecast Audio/Video, Revo Super-Connect Radio, GGMM-E5 portable *VPN Player:* SqueezePlayer on Android Phone ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107165 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Reliable PSU Recommendations?
I've used and trusted RS Components here in the UK both for many, many years. Their own brand product Number 726-2836 is a professional grade 5V 4.0A supply at quite a reasonable price. Not sure it has the right connector for the SB3 though ("2.1 x 5.5 x 9.5 mm Centre Positive")? And a 3 year warranty. I have this model in my spares bin but can't remember to what use I put it. Re: [slim] Absolute Radio FLAC streams not working
I don't have to hand but it's easy to find. Open up the stream defined in Absolute Radio Links page in VLC. In VLC right click on the Stream Title and open the "Information" Tab. At the bottom of the "information page/general tab" you will see a "Location" showing the true URI of the network stream not the playlist defined in the links page (Which LMS can't process). You can also see the FLAC parameters under the "information page/codec tab" Enter the "Location" stream address in the "LMS Radio/Tune In URL" box and save the playing stream as a favourite or playlist. Took me longer to type this than giving you the URL directly but you can use this methodology in other situations. Merry Christmas all. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104383 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Some of the devices are true audiophile if that's what you want. A word of thanks to the developer philippe44 who has taken on the challenge of taming the variations of upnp/dlna at large in the community. Squeese2upnp may even become a plug-in in the fulness of time. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102809 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Announcement - ickStream open beta release on Squeezebox !
Further testing with the ickStream Tidal plug-in. I see that Tidal presents some Albums in it's Web View that are up-coming but not yet available and all the tracks are greyed out. These appear in the ickstream UI without comment and lead to unneccessary sound card testing/rebooting etc when trying to play them. eg the album The Billy Fury Story, but I'm sure there are many. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102497 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Announcement - ickStream open beta release on Squeezebox !
I may not be doing this in the approved manner so please put me right if I am not. When searching an Artist is it possible to have the Artist "Main Album" view on the ickStream Tidal plugin. This is available on the Tidal Web Player. Further, after searching an Artist, if you do click on a compilation album and drill down, the track artists are not then visible and one has try each track out in term to find the artist. Again this is available in the Tidal Web Player. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102497 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've ripped six or seven this afternoon (amongst other things) and had no problems at all. I've taken the plunge and bought the registration key. Re: [slim] Program to Rip AND Burn to FLAC
I've been lurking here just keeping up with things: Thanks to Gordon for recommending EZ-CDDA I've been having some problems with rubyripper since Ubuntu 10.04 and also had problems with my SATA DVD-ROM drive in my dual boot WindowsXP/EAC but EZ-CDDA has great tagging options (I particularly like Album mode) and is extremely fast - 1 minute 40 secs for a 10 track CD. It's not free but seems worth the price. [slim] IR Overload
Apologies if this has been noted before. I had an original SlimDevices SB3 for years and loved it. I decided to get a couple more (now Logitech SB3's) when it became evident that the end of their production was close. On one of them, which I had moved to the location of the original SB3, and I always operated the remote from less than 2 feet. I needed to press the IR remote buttons several times before the commands eventually "took". I couldn't work it out and changed batteries and tried all sorts of other remedies. I eventually noticed that if I stood back a couple of yards the problem disappeared. I guess the Logitech model has a more powerful IR signal or an IR receiver that is more susceptible to overload. Anyway not a problem for me now that I know what's going on - hope it may help someone else. -- ian_heys ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72236 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] feature request: auto connect to squeezenetwork when slim server offline
Something like this feature is already provided as part of the ServerPowerControl plugin. You can close down the server PC and switch to whatever SqueezeNetwork is called now (why did they change it?) from the player's remote control and lots of other server power control possiblities. Not sure it made the transition to 7.4 gracefully yet though? -- ian_heys ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=15595 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

There's a long list of 128k UK stations here: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/broadband_internet_radio.htm I right click on the Classic FM link here and post it into my Favourites. -- ian_heys ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71518 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] BBC Radio 4 Long Wave (Question for UK members)
Hi Labarum If you want to listen to Radio 4 you can try this URL this is the same as Radio 4 LW except for a couple of instances during the day (Daily Service and Shipping Forecast etc): http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/wm_asx/aod/radio4.asx Or if you want to listen to the cricket you can listen on Radio 5 Live at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/live/live_sportsextra.asx In the latter case it's best if you enter the URL in SqueezeCenter rather than SqueezeNetwork as the SqueezeNetwork Server is not in the UK and the BBC Stream may interpret the request as coming from outside the UK and not play if there are rights restrictions. Also best to set WMA to Native in your file types. If you really want to listen to Radio 4 LW I can dig out another URL for you? -- ian_heys ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59366 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SB2/3 Modular Native Codecs in Firmware
I have no problems streaming/transcoding AAC/AAC+ from my SC. My favourite BBC radio stations are about to start streaming in AAC+ at higher quality than the WMA streams they currently use. (They have also said they may also stream their flagship Radio 3 in AAC - but that remains to be seen). Many other radio stations stream in AAC+ already. It's very power intensive to have the server running just to receive stream radio from the internet. AAC+ capable web radios will surely arrive soon - why cannot the Squeezebox be one of them? That doesn't preclude the original premise that others may chose a different set of codecs. -- ian_heys ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56588 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] SB2/3 Modular Native Codecs in Firmware
Has anyone ever considered tackling this issue. Apparently there is limited capacity for native codecs within the SB2/3 but some formats are provided that I don't use. For me the ideal native combination would be: WAV*/AAC/AAC+/WMA*/MP3* (* = already native) I would be willing to relinquish some of the other native codecs so that I could receive all these "natively" within the SB2/3 and even subscribe to any licensed codecs if that were required. I have in mind a check box scenario when choosing your native codecs (say any six of the available codecs or whatever) something like the new plugin architecture in 7.3. -- ian_heys ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56588 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
