OK. I got the workaround to allow me to access my server. Now I can
select my iPad and navigate through my music collection but when I try
and select something to play all I get is a pop up saying Playback
Error - No audio data found. The music is standard mp3 and naturally
plays fine on my other Slimdevice products as well as SquuezePlay. Any
suggestions?

I agree. The password protection, while only providing minimal

I have exactly the same problem. My configuration is:

Cable modem -(ethernet)- Router (with DHCP server)

SBR -(802.11)- Apple Airport

I can ping everything and they all have a 192.168.1.* IP address.

[slim] Re: So Farewell Then, Slim Devices

2006-10-26 Thread jbuccino

I disagree with the statement that Logitech will ruin Slimdevices. In
fact the evidence seems to indicate just the opposite.

I was an early adopter of the Harmony product (before their acquisition
by Logitech). I thought it was the best universal remote on the market
and the software capability (state memory, web programming, Mac
compatibility) were a perfect fit for me and my equipment (despite
being a small unknown Canadian company). The first new Harmony product
after the Logitech acquisition was the 880 which I upgraded to and I
like even more. It retained compatibility with my existing equipment
and had better ergonomics, a color LCD and rechargeable batteries. The
new 1000 looks even more interesting. I don't know if any of this was
Logitech's design influence or if it was their ability to stay out of
the way of a good engineering team but I don't care. All I know is I
have a quality product that does the job. I have never had a problem
with the Harmony software and don't consider it to be inferior in any
way.

I am also an early adopter of Slimdevices products (hand built
Squeezebox, SB2, 2xSB3) and I am *very* satisfied with the product and
the software. Given my experience with what happened after Logitech
acquired Harmony I am enthusiastic about the future of Slimdevices.

Normally I wouldn't bother replying as everyone is entitled to their
opinion but I just felt that the overall tone of the message board
since the news of the acquisition has been negative. I wish Slimdevices
(and Logitech) much success in their new relationship.

2006-10-26 Thread jbuccino

smc2911: In my opinion (having used the software both before and after
the acquisition) the Harmony software is essentially unchanged. The one
major improvement is the web access time - after the acquisition the
access was much faster. Before the acquisition it was often unusable.

The only disappointment I have (since the acquisition) is that the
Macintosh software has trailed the PC software by a significant amount.
This is the issue that is causing me to keep my eyes open for an
alternate solution.

[slim] Re: Any Mac users who don't use iTunes?

2006-06-29 Thread jbuccino

I use a Mac but refuse to use the Itunes Music Store because I feel that
DRM is a violation of my rights to play music that I have purchased on
any device of my choice.

I do, however, use iTunes to manage and digitize all my music. It is
very good at those functions and integrates well with my various iPods
and Slim Devices products.

I choose not to buy music online (iTunes Music Store or others) to
avoid DRM. I buy new music on physical CD media (mostly from Amazon
because of overnight delivery) and immediately rip it into iTunes. This
works quite well for me and gives me both digital and physical back
ups.

You do not have to use the iTunes Music Store in order to have iTunes
manage your music library.

When I bought my new SB2 I gave my old SB1 to a friend who lives about
60 miles away. I set him up so that he could could access my music with
it (I set up the original SB with my cable router address and forwarded
ports 3483 and 9000 to my server). For a couple of months this worked
fine but now his SB goes to a black screen after it finds a server and
gets a DHCP address. When I look at my server I see that it recognizes
the old SB (and finds it again even if I tell it to forget that player)
but when I try to play something on his device it trys to start but then
shows STOP. All the time his screen is blank and using the arrow keys
on his remote have no effect on his screen.

I am sure my router is set up properly because I can access my library
remotely (using SoftSqueeze b8) from my laptop using the same IP
address.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.
