Well, I got a new iMac and I'm still having disconnect issues just like
you're mentioning except that I can usually just stop and re-start the
SqueezeCenter server instead of rebooting...also seems to be fine when
the Mac is wired to the router (which I have strung across the room at
the moment).

Today I'm going to buy an 802.11n router to see if that does the trick.
If not, I guess I'll go the homeplug route (or run an extra-long cable
along the baseboard).

Re: [slim] Can BOTH computer and SB be connected wirelessly?

2009-06-10 Thread kowloonside

Yes, I definitely consider the double wireless hop less than ideal.
However, even with my very old laptop, my connection issues have
decreased down to a lost connection when there has been no network
traffic for some time (i.e. first thing in the morning or first thing
when I get home from work). Once I "wake up" the router, I don't
experience any dropout issues any more.

Maybe when the new computer gets here, I won't even have those minor
issues. If I do, perhaps I'll see about another solution that will let
me keep the computer hard-wired...or an 802.11N router. Anyone have
real-world experience of the better coverage and throughput that N
offers over G?

Re: [slim] Can BOTH computer and SB be connected wirelessly?

2009-06-07 Thread kowloonside

Well, I think I've discovered the main issue that was preventing the SBR
from finding SC on my computer: When my computer was wired to the
router, I didn't have to set the lan_network_address on the SBR (just
the lan_gateway was enough). But when the computer is wireless, both
have to be set to the IP address of the router.

On the other hand, I'm still having occasional connection problems
which I think are related to the wireless performance of my 4-year-old,
not exactly high-spec computer. They are usually solved by having
Windows repair the wireless connection (despite the fact that it is
already functioning). Fortunately, I have plans to replace the computer
very soon anyway...hopefully the upgrade will result in a more solid
wireless connection for the computer, which appears to be the issue more
than the SBR.

Re: [slim] Can BOTH computer and SB be connected wirelessly?

2009-06-06 Thread kowloonside

As mentioned, I am using the net-UDAP tool to adjust all settings on the
SBR. Both the computer and the SBR have to be hard-wired to the router
in order to use this tool.

So I checked the IP address of my computer when it was wirelessly
connected and then start Squeezecenter and verify on the information
settings screen that it is using that IP address as the server IP
address.

Then I plug both components in and use the tool to configure the server
IP address on the SBR to match the wireless IP address of the computer.
But when I reset the SBR, it still can't find the music source (SC on
the computer). I even tried stopping and re-starting SC after updating
the configuration just in case SC has switched over to the wired IP
address while I was doing the configuration but still no luck.

[slim] Can BOTH computer and SB be connected wirelessly?

2009-06-06 Thread kowloonside

In my old place, I had my computer connected via ethernet cable to my
router and my squeezebox connected wirelessly. It is a standalone
receiver that I configured with the net-UDAP tool but mostly didn't give
me any problems.

In my new place, the jacks for the modem are far away from anywhere I
want to set up my computer and I am trying to avoid running cables
across the room. I assumed that I would just be able to update the IP
address on my receiver to the IP assigned to my wirelessly-connected
computer. But so far, nothing but that old blue light.

Just to check everything, I did stretch wires across the room so my
computer could be hard-wired to my router again and sure enough, that
method still works as well as it ever did.

Is having both the computer and receiver connected wirelessly possible?
I understand there could be some data throughput issues with making two
hops like this. But shouldn't the receiver at least be able to connect
to squeezecenter on the wirelessly connected computer?

Thanks for any and all advice.

Does this mean that there is no way to access the TrackInfo of a song
that is playing except to navigate back out into the menus, change the
control icon to trackinfo, and then click on the song there?

Pippin,
I know you were hoping to submit 1.1 to Apple for review this week.
Any luck or are you still testing?

Awesome. And sorry for the assumption about the skin...I'm so
impressed with the functionality that I thought looks would be no sweat
at all to change.

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2009-02-04 Thread kowloonside

Pippin, another new (and very grateful) iPeng user here. I thought I
was quite satisfied with the SBC for the last year, but iPeng has
really showed me what I've been missing. At any rate, I had just a
couple of questions / requests:

1) How soon do you think that we will see all the features from 0.5.3
hit the native app? In particular, I would love alarms and the
coverflow interface.

2) What are the chances that you could add a simple skin option or two
in the next update? The dark blue and classic Coolio are pretty good
but I am thinking a solid black and white skin plus a Coolio icon to
match the rest of the icons would be perfect. And I would think these
would be much easier to implement than entirely new features.

Thanks again for the great app.
