[slim] Streaming a radio station

2005-10-02 Thread luuk

Dear all,

I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction
on the following matter. I would like to subscribe to a online radio
station and stream the result to SB2. I contacted the station and they
replied as follows:

We do, in fact, stream our broadcast at 96k for contributors, and it
can be received on squeezebox 2. Upon contributing, users are provided
with a URL to an MP3 stream at 96k. The listener can create a local
playlist on PC using this URL, and configure SlimServer to deliver it
to Squeezebox.

The bit that I do not quite understand is what exactly I need to do at
my end in order to receive this 96k stream. Why do I need a local
playlist? Is that just a playlist with the right sort of info like URL
and possibly a password?

[slim] Re: Streaming a radio station

2005-10-03 Thread luuk

Michael,

I figured it out and it is working beautifully now. Actually Slimserver
6.1.1. also has a Tune in facility, from which I managed to create a
playlist.

I couldn't disagree more. How many PCs would you have me spread about
the house? Although I still run Slimserver on my PC I am seriously
considering getting a NAS, because when the PC is engaged on complex
tasks like heavy indexing or the like, the performance of SlimServer
suffers. A dedicated machine would be much more elegant. If SlimServer
also became DNLA compliant it would be even better.

Re: [slim] FLAC format for videos?

2008-11-14 Thread luuk

I still think it is shortsighted of the SB people not to consider
putting together an SB that can handle video as well. I would also be
happy with SqueezeCenter streaming video and audio to say a Popcorn
Hour. What I am trying to avoid (because it is giving me lots of
problems) is having to run two or even three servers (I now have to run
SC for my SB2, Twonky for flac music to the homecinema (Denon 4306) and
TVersity also to the homecinema but to the PS3 mainly for video (who
wants to listen to anything except hardrock with the PS3 blazing in the
background). Getting these three to work smoothly together has been a
real head-ache.

[slim] Information overload problem

2009-11-13 Thread luuk

Dear all,

I hadn't consulted this website for a few months and recently updated
to the latest SqueezeCenter (after a new Vista install). I was used to
running SoftSqueeze and remembered I could install it straight from
SqueezeCenter. However, I could not find info on this in SC anywhere. So
I searched this forum ... HUGE problem. Enetering Softsqueeze gives a
vast number of hist with the top threads running for many pages and
apparently not dealing with Softsqueeze at all. I just don't have the
time to go though all of them!! I diod discover that SoftSqueeze has now
apparently replaced by SqueezePlay and consulted the WiKi. The download
given, however, is the SC download. I have now gone full circle.
SqueezePlay is apparently integrated in SC but SC doesn't reveal this
secret. The help option is no help either since it just sends me to the
general Logitech web pages. This site is no good either since a search
for SqueezePlay gives mne a vast number of hits in threads taht aren't
devoted to it at all.

Sorry, but that is not the way to get people to use something that is
new. I am desperate and quite annoyed that there is no way of getting
quick info on a basic question ... how do I play music on my PC using
SC? If SqueezePlay is indeed integrated in SC it is ridiculous that it
doesn't show up somewhere obvious like the Home menu.

Re: [slim] Information overload problem

2009-11-13 Thread luuk

Thanks that helps. But ... this option is NOT offered on the Logitech
download page for SC, which means that users are dependent on the user
forum and people like you to volunteer this info. This forum ought to
find a way to address such questions on the forum and SC should address
them directly in the program.

Re: [slim] Information overload problem

2009-11-13 Thread luuk

Thanks everyone. I have switched to SqueezePlay (although so far I have
not succeeded in getting it to synchronize with the SB; in fact, when I
choose synchronize SP goes mute), but please do address the issue of my
original mail. How are users who do not (habitually) follow the forum
ever going to find out about SqueezePlay?

And more generally, even if they do use the forum, how can they find
help without having to wade through vast numbers of pages?

Fair point about the beta stage, BUT the inbuilt (in SC) SoftSqueeze

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] iPeng 1.2 for iPhone now on the AppStore

2009-12-14 Thread luuk

I would love to try the new iPeng 1.2.1 (I am still on 1.1.2) but
cannot. First, my iTouch (8Gb) does not offer me this update. When I try
to "buy" it in the regular way I am told the program is not compatible
and that I need the iPhone 3.0 software update. What is going on?

2009-12-14 Thread luuk

What a pity. I had a quick look at Apple's plug for version 3.0 and it
seemed to me they have the cheek to make you pay 9if not very much) for
an update the most prominent features of which allows Apple to sell you
more goodies. It is a little bit like paying for parking at the
supermarket!

Your remark that it actually improves on the old software softens the
blow somewhat (-:

Updated my iPhone Touch and nstalled the new iPeng. First impressions

Also, any plans to adapt iPeng for Android (so far, none of the

[slim] Madness: Softsqueeze, SqueezePlay, Squeezebox Desktop

2010-02-01 Thread luuk

Have the developers gone raving mad? I tried to find Softsqueeze, then
discovered it is now called SqueezePlay, so I go to the wiki, where I am
told under the heading of SquuezePlay: "SqueezeBox Desktop is a
replacement for SoftSqueeze and is based on the SqueezeOS software
platform." To make the confusion complete, when you then click on
nightly builds in "SqueezeBox Desktop can be downloaded from the Nightly
Builds", you end up on the Squeezecenter nightly release page where
neither SqueezePlay nor SqueezeBox Desktop is mentioned.

Well done guys! BTW, who is going to put a stop to all these ludicrous
name changes. Doesn't anybody know the importance of a good brand name
9and sticking with it)?

Re: [slim] Madness: Softsqueeze, SqueezePlay, Squeezebox Desktop

2010-02-01 Thread luuk

Thanks for the help. Sorry for giving the impression that Squeezeplay is
a replacement of SoftSqueeze. I was looking at it from the user point of
view and am well aware that we are dealing with two different products.
I hope the error in the Wiki will soon be corrected. As to the
rebranding ... you can kill an otherwise decent product by rebranding it
too often. Most ordinary users like myself use a product and that is
usually it. They do not follow forum discussion so are not normally in
the know about name changes and the like, yet they need to update their
software every once in a while, which is when confusion strikes.

Re: [slim] To Logitech: Are there plans....

2009-02-12 Thread luuk

I still haven't taken the plunge but am sorely tempted by the Duet. So
far my setup encompasses a SB2 hardwired to the network. How do the
Duet and the iPod Touch with iPeng compare? Are they both equally
functional? With the iPod touch 8Gb now costing just 200 Euros, isn't
this the better solution?

[slim] Cat among the pigeons

2008-01-13 Thread luuk

Let me start by saying that I have been a very happy and dedicated SB
(2) user for a few years now. But, I am now setting up a dedicated home
cinema and this raises several questions about how to transport music
there from my server. Inevitably I find my mind turning to non-SB
solutions because I would also want to transport pictures/video from
the server as well. Yet I am reluctant to do so. I have some experience
using a PS3 to do precisely that, and this has been less than
satisfying. Wouldn't it be great if SBs could also transport images and
video? Are there any plans in this direction?

Re: [slim] Cat among the pigeons

Sure, popcorn would be nice too, but the crackling might disturb the
music experience. But seriously, whether one streams music or images or
video is all basically the same thing. Since the SB can do the one so
well, is it too much to hope it might also be put to good use in the
other areas ?

[slim] Sreaming to Foobar

2007-05-17 Thread luuk

Foobar is my preferred desktop player. Is it possible to link Slimserver

SlimServer is running on the same computer as Foobar (all the music is
also on that machine).

Re: [slim] Sreaming to Foobar

Thanks. I tried your suggestion but with stream.mp3 it will only play
mp3 (all my files are flac and stream.flac doesn't work). Moroever,
even when I list more than one (MP3) song in SlimServer, I have to
reactivate Foobar after each song.

I do realise that what I am trying to do is a little silly, and I have
the strong sensation I am missing something. As far as I know though
SlimServer cannot send songs directly to the soundcard, can it?

SlimServer could be made to do the same thing.
