[slim] Bye bye wiki?

2020-09-11 Thread Michael Herger
We have a wiki (wiki.slimdevices.com) which has mostly been abandoned
for a few years. Hardly any updates to the content, no updates to the
underlying system. Unfortunately we can't easily "fix" that. In order to
update OS, database and application, we'd likely have to spend a lot of
effort. Not to mention what would be needed to update the content.

So is it time to say goodbye to the wiki? I could put it up somewhere in

2020-07-04 Thread Michael Herger

Just curious if anybody ever experimented with this kind of thing
before? Would the increased DB size and time-to-rescan be an issue at
all?

"Fuzzy search" has been on my list for years... but I haven't done any
experimenting yet, tbh.

The very first phrase in the wikipedia article about metaphone was
somewhat of a bummer:

"Metaphone is a phonetic algorithm, published by Lawrence Philips in
1990, for indexing words by their English pronunciation."

But it seems DM improved support for other languages.

As for the integration... I was wondering whether this should be a
different column/index, or whether this could be a feature you enable,
and thereafter all search indexes would be using DM. There is a
CUSTOMSEARCH column in most tables which could be used by a plugin - and
which is put in the fulltext index, too. That said, I could imagine that
FTS and "fuzzy" search could result in a lot of false positives. But
anyway, it's probably something to explore.

What you're seeing there might just be the "playlist format" as defined

I have just bought a transporter and am loving it and the Extended Text
Display. However, when I am using Spotify (Spotty plugin v4.1.0 in LMS
7.9.2 Debian) I see different information displayed in the Extended Text
Display (right-hand display on transporter) depending on the day I use
it or maybe how I am selecting the music in Spotify: I can't work it
out.

Are you using the MusicInfoSCR screensaver to configure what should be
displayed?

In general the source can do little about what's being displayed. Except
if eg. a source wouldn't provide distinct artist/album/track
information, but only all in one. But then again Spotty should always
return the full set as distinct values. At least that's what I'm seeing
on my devices.

Usually, for Spotify, the transporter's right-hand screen shows a single
large scolling row displaying info such as: 2. by from

With a Premium account, Pandora users can play much more than just

"Albums," and "Songs." In addition, the Collection can contain
Playlists, Podcasts, and Episodes. I would not necessarily expect to be

I am not an SQL expert by any means but can work through most things
given enough time.

I only mentioned SQLite as an application which would need to be run
outside LMS or busybox. Just to see whether additional programs can be
launched. A simple "select * from albums limit 10" would be good enough
as a first test.

However, I suspect that the sqlite is not having a problem (at least not
a big problem that is affecting everything) because I can use LMS to
select tracks/artists etc from my local music using LMS UI and various
controllers to play music without any obvious problems.

SQLite can be embedded in other applications. That's what LMS is doing.
My suggestion would be using the external CLI client to SQLite which
would run in its own memory space etc.
