But check again with Erland on this, I only use ratings on SC, not on

The reason I'm asking is, that I would use TrackStat for ratings, as I

I seem to remember a post from Erland talking about adding a general

Sounds like a good idea.
 - Schowing a vertical scroll-bar also for non-categorized lists. Puh.
 Let's see
This one is more of a nice to have, not really necessary.
 - Having a Lazy-search with a search result display like iPeng (sorry,
 couldn't resist)
The AR search results are really similar, agreed - and you got there
first :) AR only has two rows of text (not showing album).

I also noticed that AR is cheating with search results, only
displaying e.g. 8 songs, although I know there are several more. The
resulting Remote playlist in iTunes contains all songs however.

 - Having icons and number of tracks for playlists. How about the same
for favorites? I'm not completely sure SC has a way to store an icon
 for a playlist, though.
Icons are nice to have, numbers are useful. Haven't thought about
favorites, but it sounds good.

Anything else? What do you think about the additional + icon iPeng has
 over AR? Bloated or useful?
The AR always stays in vertical mode, I really don't think horizontal
mode is useful for an app like this. (But then again I've never
understood the attraction of coverflow besides that it looks cool.)

As for the '+' I could personally do without it, but it doesn't disturb
me much.

Since I'm on a Mac and use iTunes as my main DB I would like to be able
to rate songs and see the rating using the iTunes update plugin for SC.

What you're saying is of course true, but in practice most of today's

hardware spec had that listed separately.

Except on real RISC chips (do any actually exist any more?), a clock
cycle isn't the same as an instruction cycle, so raw clock speed
doesn't compare across CPU models (even within the same family such
as x86 this can be misleading).
AFAIK a real RISC core is the architecture that comes closest to one
instruction per clock cycle (unless you're going superscalar). I'd
better quit now to keep the thread from imploding under the OT in here

I want an iPod dock and the possibility to use the SB as an interface
to my iPod without having my computer turned on. It's silly to think
this would make the SB fat or mess up the current architecture.

[slim] Re: MusicIP / MusicMagic and 6.5

2006-12-07 Thread morberg

It took a while, but now it is up and running. I had a lot of problems
starting the MusicIP service from the GUI, but once I followed the
instructions on http://www.musicip.com/mixer/server.jsp it worked a lot
better.

Once it is up and running, you can see the MM symbol after songs you
can use to generate playlists in (at least) the fishbone web UI for
Slimserver and on the Squeezebox itself. No symbol for songs in
Favorites strangely enough.

Now on to tweak the settings!

[slim] Re: MusicIP / MusicMagic and 6.5

2006-12-04 Thread morberg

Is there any documentation on MusicIP/MusicMagic? I've downloaded and
installed the MusicIP software. I can send a playlist to slimserver
(although only one song, apparently a 'known issue'
My slimserver connects to the local MusicIP service and I have a new
option in my slimserver configuration.

What's supposed to happen now? I'd like to be able to create playlists
based on a song from my SB, but 'pressing and holding play'
(http://www.musicip.com/mixer/slimserver.jsp) only plays the album
starting with the current track.

[slim] Indexing problem

2006-12-01 Thread morberg

Hi, happy new owner of a SB3 here. I have one small problem with
slimserver 6.5.0: when I've indexed my collection (some 13.000 songs) a
few items are not indexed properly. Instead of Artist they have the top
folder name and instead of Album they have the folder name.

Might be hard to understand, so here's an example. On my hard drive I
have the following structure:

music\TheArtist - TheAlbum (1999)\01. FirstSong.mp3

The mp3 properties of FirstSong are correctly showing TheArtist in the
Artist field and so on. But in my slimserver index the song is shown as
song: FirstSong from TheArtist - TheAlbum (1999) by music. Only
some songs from TheAlbum are incorrectly indexed, the rest are correct.
(And yes, the mp3 tags are consistent across TheAlbum - I'm pretty anal
about keeping them in check.)

Only five-six songs in total have been incorrectly indexed.

Is this a known bug? Is there a way to delete indexed albums and rescan
for new and added items? (I've rebuilt the entire database once; don't
know if the problem was there before the latest rebuild.)

If these files DO have tags, then

Checked v1/v2 and they are consistent. Don't think my tag editor Tag
Tools 1.2 (or XP for that matter?) has support for APE, at least I
can't find it there.

There was also a known problem with some tags when using 6.5.0. These

are fixed in 6.5.1 builds, so you could consider trying that:
 http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_nightly.html
It seems weird that only some tracks are affected when other tracks
from the same album are correctly indexed. Is there any more info on
the tag problems in 6.5.0?

How is the stability of the nightlies? I'm pretty happy with 6.5.0 so
far and would not like anything to break my current setup.

Thanks for taking the time to help out.

[slim] Re: Indexing problem

2006-12-01 Thread morberg

Installed 6.5.1 from dec 1 (some minor glitches with SlimTray during
installation, but easily fixed). Rescan did not help, but clear and
rescan (without deleting library database) seems to have done the
trick.

Thanks for the fishbone tip, a tad dark for my taste (will try the tan
version now) but very functional. I especially like that the search
function is always available.
