Seems there are major problems. I deleted Squeezeplay and all related files, and installed the alternative build above. However, after choosing my language, Squeezeplay automatically starts trying to connect to mysqueezebox.com (before I've even had a chance to enter my login info). After a while it gives up, but when I choose "Switch library", it simply tries to connect to mysqueezebox.com again. In other words, it is stuck in an endless loop. [slim] LMS 7.7.2 stuck on "starting" - yet still runs
This problem is driving me insane (more or less). I am running Logitech Media Server 7.7.2 on a Mac Mini. It starts and stops fine after first install. However, after doing some changes to the plug-ins pages, including installing the 3rd party Spotify plug-in, things start to get messy. First of all, LMS will *always* get stuck on "server starting up" in the OS X Control panel after doing these changes. Yet, the server is still running ... This, though, means I can't stop the server (because the "start server" button is greyed out because the server is "starting"), which is in itself annoying. Any ideas what's causing this? [slim] Ignoring small/capital letter?
It seems Logitech Media Server (version 7.7.1) is separating artist names when there is a difference in small and capital letters - and only that. For instance, "Wouter van Veldhoven" and "Wouter Van Veldhoven" is listed as two separate artists (notice the small/capital "v" in "van"). As far as I know, SqueezePlay isn't supported in any shape or form, and it's too buggy to be at all useful. I have gone back to Softsqueeze. Besides there's a serious audio playback bug where you can only play music through the speakers of your mac, and not through, say, a sound card, so it's pretty irrelevant at this point anyways. Trying the latest SqueezePlay nightly build (16. April) for Mac, but have two problems/questions: 1) Audio is playing through the internal speakers no matter what (OS X 10.6.3 on a MBP), even if the Macs Sound preferences is set to go through my USB sound card; any idea why? 2) Is it possible to use SqueezePlay externally, i.e. outside my own network (for example from work)? Or is it just meant to be used locally? [slim] Why is "server.prefs.tmp" constantly accessed?
I am running SBS 7.4.2 on a NAS-disk (Qnap TS-119), and it keeps waking up my harddisk when it's in standby because of what seems to be SBS regular accessing "server.prefs.tmp". Anyone have any idea what this might be? Why is it that some CDs/rips won't play all the files in the folder when I press play on the first track using iPeng? Quite a few of my CD folders do this: I press play in iPeng, but only the first track plays - not the rest of the CD. When I check the list in iPeng, only the first track is listed. I guess this is a tagging issue, but I can't find anything obvious wrong with the mp3s in question. Any ideas? Let's say I buy a NAS disk, copy all my mp3 files to it, connect it to the network, and access it from my MacBook. Will I be able to use this disk as the source of music in SqueezeCenter without any problems? As far as I know a NAS disk will show up as a regular volume on the MacBook, but will it also work as a streaming source? I want to access my OS X installed Slimserver at work. I have opened the ports I need to open, and know the web interface is accessible from outside my router. I have also tried the latest version of Softsqueeze, but it simply disconnects from my Slimserver continually. Any other options? An update: after much help from the inguzDSP developer it seems I am finally getting the plug-in (with balance control) to work with OS X. Lossless and MP3 are working fine, though AAC and AIFF are not. This may sound like a strange request, but after a pretty serious ear infection and perforated ear drum a few years back, the hearing on my right ear has been slightly reduced. This is enough to skew all sound from a couple of stereo speakers slightly to the left ... which can be annoying. So, I have two options right now: Sell my Cayin 153B amp (which I'm pretty happy with) and get an amp with L/R balance control, or ask this forum if there is any plug-in or any way to adjust the L/R balance on the Squeezebox 3. The name of the OS X version of icecast is, ta-da, Nicecast. I just downloaded it, but it kinda defeats part one of my request, namely that I want to exploit the excellent 24-bit converters - and since Nicecast encodes the stream to mp3 (albeit 320kbps if I want), it is still a compressed file. [slim] Playing back CDs directly through Squeezebox?
So, why do I want to do that, you might ask? Well, two things: First of all, the D/A converters in the Squeezebox are a lot better than the ones on my CD player. Second, I want to play back some of my CDs without ripping them first. It takes a lot of disk space to rip everything in either lossless or AIFF-format. Is it possible? I am running Slimserver on OS X. Today I inserted a CD, made a symbolic link for the CD, and put the link in my Music folder. I can access the file fine, and I even notice that Slimserver can read everything about the file (length, bitrate, filetype, file size etc.) - it just can't play it back. Why is this so? Is this supposed to work?
