I never asked you to invest your time & money but in the end, YOU are going to force me to pay for something that used to be free before. logitech was already able to fire the dev. team because there is a 'community' outthere who's ready/willing to take-over. By 'offering' a so called replacement to LMS+backend, you enable Logitech to drop its support entirely and shutdown the backend. Why would Logitech host you on this forum (that they own) if it wasn't in their interest that a handfull of people takes-over their piece of code and the obligation that goes with it ? You're giving them a nice way to pull the plug, drop the productline support and save costs. The next logical step is that the 'commnity' tells me to compensate for those savings Logitech will make ? Better experience ?!? Really ? I guess this really means enabling you to eventually charge us fees for the use of the system, plugins, etc... Erland, We know that you have converted your free plugins to commercial ones overnight in the past, so I think I'll think twice betting on this new platform. My bet is that the real goal is to turn it to a money machine once enough people are trapped into it. Sorry but I'm from the old tape, cd, dvd generation : i buy music and equipment and i want noone to knock at the door later and claim fees for using the equipment. I want no licence to manage, I don't want to register or manage password. I don't want to be trapped once again when you'll pull the plug after you realise that your central infra costs too much or when you move to something else. I don't want to be obliged to create a facebook id to log in your site when you decide to follow spotify's path. I want you to respect my privacy and don't want you to track what I listen to because you know that this data has some value on the market. reniera's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98467 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?
My experience with squeezebox degraded when you Erland decided your plugins (and the ones of sugarcube) become commercial and payable. Thanks to that change, i then realised lms is in fact very stable with no 3P plugins, thank you and that i can recover a lot of free time by sticking to the official (stable) version with no tweaking/plugins. Lms Alone does what it's supposed to do and does it very well. As already explained, i'd love track rating, user profiles and an improvement/replacement of musicip to be integrated by Logitech in the core product. callesoroe;664649 Wrote: > These plugins really makes the Squeezebox product much much better. And > as Logitech sadly enough do not see the value of this, then we users > must do it. I also appreciate what Erland does (and I don't dispute the fact that he can ask money for FUTURE versions - I think everyone says the same thing here) but I can't agree that Trackstat makes the squeezebox product so much much better. In the end, Trackstat is a poorly integrated patch on a product that should have had that feature from the early beginning. Rating is not even integrated in the WebUI. You have to use iPeng in order to easily rate tracks. When Musicbrainz changed their database structure a couple of months ago, I lost all my ratings. Not that long ago, rescan would freeeze because of trackstat. 7.7 also has issues with database concurrent access of trackstat. It's definitely an (appreciated) add-on that Logitech couldn't care less about and it creates a lot of technical problems at every version upgrade (= reason why Erland has so much trouble maintainning his plugins). Months ago, I said that Logitech should take erland on their payroll (i.e. to recognise the support he gave during the 7.6 migration). Is it because Logitech doesn't care about improving their product that I should pay a 3rd party to improve it ?I don't think so. Because rating/stats are not native, Erland created trackstat. Because of the need to maintain it, Erland invented licence manager. Next steps is that we have to pay for license manager ? Or perhaps, the access to this forum will billable ? At least i improve the reliability. I understand that developpers wants to be paid but i don't like that a free product becomes commercial overnight. I could understand that a new version of the plugin (with new features) becomes billable, but disabling a plugin that i was presented as free in the past makes me feel like taken in hostage. Also, trackstat is poorly integrated, i believe and is not worst that price. As a comparaison, Ipeng is really cool and costs (only) 8euros and there is a free alternative from logitech. Come on! Rating, play count should have been part of the core product from the beginning. How hard is it for logitech dev. to code this in the native database ? I mean, it's a piece a work, but quite nothing in comparaison of the whole product as it exists today. If only they weren't so busy with lms ... -- reniera reniera's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90975 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] 30th anniversary celebration at Logitech
Funny, To celebrate their 30th anniversary of innovation, today, Logitech offers discount on audio stuffs with ... packaging defects (Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 White - Défauts d'emballages). That must be cultural, in some places, one wouldn't "offer" a refurbished gift. Or is it marketing innovation to convince people it's exceptional to get a 50% discount on a packaging defect ? 7.6.1 has more or less always been fine for me (I use it for months) but I deplore that the 'auto turn on' issue isn't adressed yet. It's really annoying. It's also a pity that it took SO LONG to release 7.6. I hope 7.6 was an exception and that future releases will be better managed. -- reniera reniera's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89393 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Home automation ; how to trigger a clean Squeezebox server shutdown ?
Hi, I'd like to automate the shutdown of SB server: I have a magic button at home that turns off all lights when we go to sleep or when leaving home (=when I turn the alarm on). This is extremely handy because I stopped counting the times kids leave the light on. Turning the alarm on, also reduces temperature of central heating. For those who are interested, this is all managed with a PLC Crouzet Millenium XD26 so it's a bit smarter than cutting everything off : 1 push on the button turns external lights off, 2nd push turns lights off in peripheral rooms, 3rd and 4th push turns lights off in the all rooms. When turning the alarm on (=when leaving home), the sequence is automatic but at nigh, the external lights stays on for 5 minutes. When coming home (=when turning the alarm off) at night only, some lights go on automatically for some time. Imagination is the limit. It must be smart and transparent enough but eventually wife is happy. Kids are even more happy because now, they have an excuse for leaving everything on since they say it's all taken care of magically :( I still need to deal about that. I'd like to go one step further and also turn off some equipments that are unlikely to be used at home when we sleep or when we're out i.e. oven, hi-fi stuffs, adsl modem/wi-fi repeater/TV decoders, printers, PCs, VoIP phones, TVs, countless battery chargers, Nintendo, PS3, a PopcornHour C-200 on order, a Touch and two Radios, etc... that have pervasively entered our home. All together these stuffs takes at least 70W on a permanent basis when idle. This is the power that I need to maintain the jacuzzi at 36°C ! I tested that I can pull the plug of Touch; it always restarts OK (so far). My problem is to shutdown the SQ server nicely. It's a Dockstar/debian. Perhaps I'll go to vortexbox in a near future. Coming back to the QUESTION : How can I generate a clean shutdown based on a contact on a relay ? Also, I have battery packs in the two radios. Shutting power off is therefore useless because I consume power to charge the battery later. In the worst case, batteries are empty when I need them. So I'd like to initiate a clean shutdown of the Radios as well. Any magic mechanism that the server send a CLI command before shutting down ? Thanks for your ideas. -- reniera reniera's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85017 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Logitech simply cancelled my order
I ordered a Touch, a duet, a radio and a battery on the Logitech web site with a promotion code gathered on Internet (SQB15). It all went OK and the -15% was applied on all products. I paid and my order was confirmed on the web site. A week after, I have no news and I can't see my order on Logitech's website. I call Logitech and they tell me that my order has been cancelled. As simple as that. Not even a single mail to me to tell me about the cancellation, nothing. It seems that there is a problem with the promotion code. That there would be some restrictions on the total amount of the order, ... So then, How could I get all the way thru the credit card payment screen then ? I had already noticed that there is something weird about Logitech promotion codes when I tried to order an Harmony years ago (actually it was returned because it just didn't support any of my devices even the most common ones). Logitech tells me that, of course I can make a new order but what's the chance for it to go thru better this time ? What about the promotion code that expired since then ? Actually, I had tried to order from Amazon.fr before but the shipment of the Touch to Belgium was restricted because it's a MP3 player (On the other hand, the Duet and Radio could be shipped. For Amazon, those are NOT mp3 players !?!). By the time Amazon sorts this restriction out, their -30 promotion code had also expired and there is nothing they can do about it ** Am I paranoiac or could it be possible that everytime I try to use a promotion code, the vendor finds a way to cancel it ? Are those promotion code real ? Or are they just to attrack attention ? That's now 6 weeks that I try to get those products. I ordered a Dockstar and Ipeng and a duet on ebay in-between. I spent days reading this forums to setup a squeezeplug (I like than, I'm a techy) and I spent night trying to resolv scan issues, connection lost problems; ... But now, I feel like I just spend too much time for something that is supposed to make my life happier. I still haven't listenned to the first mp3 thru a SQ appliance. I begin to think that perhaps I'll be the only one who can manage this setup at home...if I get it delivered to us eventually. I read everywhere that Sonos 'really works' and I now seriously consider getting it out of the shelves in Germany. But I wait for Logitech's help-desk answer before because I'm curious. Anybody experienced that before ? ** About Amazon, how can they announce a promotion in the limit of the existing stocks when they say there is only 3 items in stock ? During the 2 weeks, I discussed with Amazon, not a single unit was sold ! -- reniera reniera's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82886 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
