Re: [slim] 02 Joggler 50 quid again

I know it's an old, old thread - but for anybody using a joggler:

I've installed Linux Mint and it's a very pleasant experience.
http://joggler.exotica.org.uk/mint/
Easier to set up than Ubuntu - although lots in the image files that can
be uninstalled if you just want a tiny LMS server.

Re: [slim] 02 Joggler 50 quid again

2013-04-28 Thread jimbobvfr400

I love my Joggler and you're right Mint works very well.

However if you want the joggler to be a dedicated part of your
squeezebox universe I'd actually suggest roobarbs SqueezeplayOS to be a
better option, its based on Ubuntu 10.04 but without a desktop
environment, squeezeplay is the native GUI.

It includes loads of useful extras, MPlayer so you can use Play WMA and
Play AAC and other plugins to support those file types, Shairport for
Apple Airplay support, LMS and some other nice stuff. You can even
install a modified version of Triodes EDO app and with a suitable DAC
get 24/192 working

Obviously you can all this stuff to Mint easily enough but IMO this is
better for the job.

All just my opinion and it's easy to try all the options by swopping USB
sticks (although SqueezeplayOS can be installed on the internal memory
as well which is cool)

I personally don't use the Jogglers wifi which is actually a USB device
installed internally so boot mine from a USB stick installed internally
for a neater look and to have the USB port free.

Anyway I rambled on there much more than I meant to, as you can tell I
rather like the joggler. :-)

Thanks so much,

I am amazed with the squeezeplay functionality and really amazed it is
freeware.
I usually manage installations very large home automation systems which
struggle to have the flexibility of the squeeze box.Unfortunately its
freeware status counts it out as a solution (imagine me messing around
with 40+ systems a year like this).

going slightly off topic are there any party mode applets to join all
squeeze devices onto the same media stream (not just turn them onto the
same stream individually as you will get delays between areas).

thanks

It's attached to a Receiver, so I've not bothered installing a player

If you've used ssh before its much easier to connect over the network

Yes you need to keep it plugged in. If you're not using wireless it is
possible to take the joggler apart and insert the usb stick internally
where the wireless card currently is. There is a video on YouTube
somewhere (don't have the link handy) showing how easy it is to to do
this. Another alternative that some people are using is a micro SDHC
card in a SDHC-USB adapter which doesn't stick out too much.

2010-05-16 Thread florca

The alarm works if you set the time from the server via Web - I think
there are some display issues if you try to set the time from the
device. You obviously have to leave Squeezeplay running on the Joggler
for the alarm to work!

There's a fix for the Quit button issue here:
http://wiki.github.com/3guk/Joggler-Squeezeplayer/getting-the-quit-button-to-work
although if you're running it as an Alarm then you probably don't want
to quit in any event? Worth loading the other skin fixes from this
site, which correct lots of niggles from the original version.

My experience is that it all works really well with the revised WQVGA
skin from 3guk, but the audio output quality is noticeably worse than
an SB3 through the same amp / speakers - and the Touch is supposed to
have a better DAC / analogue stage than the SB3! So really good as a
casual Clock Radio type of device but worth buying a Touch if the sound
quality is important.

Brgds
Phil

This looks great. Mines on order. I've been looking for an ethernet
enabled photoframe for a while so being a Squeezecontrol is a great
bonus.

Now I need to get a 4GB usb stick.

Its good to know that you've had success with the alarm. Didnt work
for me when setting from the web ui from the server. I did get the
touch UI weirdness you describe.

I agree its no replacement for the touch which is great in my hi-fi.
With a pair of external speakers this will make a great standalone.

Yes I got quit working now although it loses all my networking settings
even when I quit correctly. Still its early days :)

Re: [slim] 02 Joggler 50 quid again

2010-05-14 Thread The Moog

OK then,

So I was waiting for an Android-based tablet to use as a remote for my
SqueezeBoxen, but now that the Joggler is back down to £50, I am sorely
tempted; I just need some advice:

Bearing in mind that I have no experience of installing any flavour of
linux, how easy is it to get the Joggler into a state where it can run
SqueezePlay?
Once up and running, can the Joggler be used solely as a remote for the
SqueezeBoxen that I already have (which is what I want), or does it just
become another player attached to the network?
With Ubuntu and SqueezePlay installed, would I have to reinstall the
original OS and drivers to be able to use the hardware as a Joggler
again, or is it possible to jump back and forth between SqueezePlay and
Joggler functionality?

Although very cheap for a touchscreen remote, I am just trying to
decide if a more expensive future Android product would be much neater
and nicer to use with SqueezePlay as an app that sits on it rather than
having to install a whole new OS to get partial functionality.

Thanks for any advice,

The Moog

both, SqueezePlay is a player and a controller

02 software isn't touched, remove the usb and reboot and it will load
the 02 stuff

Re: [slim] 02 Joggler 50 quid again

2010-05-14 Thread autopilot

I must say, £50 for a large touch screen Squeezebox is very tempting.

Few quick Q's...

I see in the video on Youtube that the user is using the scroll bar to
navigate through the album lists etc. Could be very fiddly, can you
swipe like you can with the touch?

What's the sound like and what audio out's does it have? Just 3.5mm
headphone? When using headphones or amp/speakers does it sound ok?

I know next to nothing about Linux, would it be possible to get it to
boot straight to Squeezeplay to use it as a dedicated remote/player?
