Re: [slim] Android TV App?
Hi, I tried to install the Squeeze Player App 1.3.21 on my Nokia 8000 with Android TV. I want to extracted the apk with X-plore and install it on Android TV (Nokia 8000). In X-plore in installed apps is just a zip file. I cannot copy that to another path: file not writable. Code: 400. With everything of Squeezeplayer terminated I get the apk but the file is just 1,2MB. While installation I directly get the error: App not installed. With APKMirror Installer: App installation failed. Te new package couldn't be installed because the verification did not succeed. Is there maybe a problem with the version? Or with payed apps? Re: [slim] Android TV App?
For the Nvidia Shield TV I have found the best combination is Squeeze Player and Squeeze Ctrl. Both need to be side loaded (you can get the apk off your phone using X-Plorer) and use the TV App Repo app to create a shortcut to Squeeze Player. This means it is on the main screen and easy to activate without needing to use a sideload launcher. Squeeze Ctrl is not certified for the Shield TV but you can use the TV remote for navigating many of the screens. Some do not work or the highlight is missing but in those rare cases I can use the Shield TV app. [image: https://i.imgur.com/gmyMEc6.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/k3J7fOH.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/smre1IO.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/9XePEmX.png] [image: https://i.imgur.com/NPEMDFB.png] This should work on any Android box or Fire Stick but I have not tested these. Hi I'm using LMS for my home automation and it's work great. The only thing that missing is to send my current playlist to my Android phone and vice versa. For example I listen my music in the morning then send my playlist to my phone and continue in my car. Is there a simple way to do this ? Is there a way to do this with app like Tasker and maybe a music player that I don't know ? Is not a problem if I must send informations via CLI, I know how to do that, is the Android part that I don't know. I don't know if it change something but it must be an offline solution (after sync) so I can't use Squeeze Player. Thank for your help. In order to work you either need to run your own LMS server or log into you MySqueezebox.com account. As far as I know, there is no LMS for Android, so you can't play music stored in the box. Re: [slim] Android app
I wonder is it possible to decompile the apk and fix it to work with the new webview components? Does anyone know if the apk jar is obfuscated? I think the JS code in there is obfuscated as a result of compacting it. But that's most likely not even the problem: the code is using Sencha Touch 1.0 (or 1.1 - don't remember). A lot has happened in the mobile browser world since then. You would probably have to replace it with a more recent version, which would render some of the app code incompatible, as they considerably changed important parts of the framework when going from 1.x to 2.0. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Android Squeezebox Controller broken?
I use Squeeze Ctrl and Orange Squeeze, and hadn't fired up the Logitech Android controller app for quite some time. My son was visiting, and I suggested he get the (free) Logitech app to control music in the house. Works fine for him on his LG phone, but when I tried it on my Experia it didn't work. I recently upgraded to the latest Android, v 5.x, and wonder if that's the problem (I don't know which Android version he is using). I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, same thing -- startup hangs on the Free Your Music screen. Just wondering. R. It is altogether a smoother more refined product and includes in app playback purchase. The player is 24bit capable. Playlist management is significantly better IMO than say Orange Squeeze. Very easy to put the playlist in edit mode and delete tracks or the whole list. There are subtle things such as if you press and hold the pause button when a track is playing you get the full range of Sleep options that you get on a player. It may be possible to do similar with one of the android apps but I haven't found where as yet. I also like the lookup function which opens a browser window into Wikipedia from now playing artist, track, album etc. I use iPeng all the time and Orange Squeeze a fair bit but think I have tried the lot at one point or another. Re: [slim] Android controller apps
Thanks all, helpful! For what it's worth, I looked at the third party software forum, and there seemed to be more activity here on related things so made the post. It IS "general discussion", and you can't get more general than control mechanisms. My experience with the Logitech app is quite positive, and it's taken me no time at all to get accustomed to the long vs short presses for different things. But I'll definitely check out the others and suspect I'll settle on one of them. Or both. Or all three, counting the Logitech app. And for what it's worth, and totally off topic, I'm very much enjoying my new phone. I am normally averse to all things Sony, but the Experia Z3 Compact seems great. I wanted a smaller form factor and it was the best reviewed. Also waterproof to some very deep level, a good thing as this morning while fiddling with other things in our laundry room I dropped the phone right into the dog's water dish. Apparently no harm done. . . Re: [slim] Android controller apps
I'd like to weigh in for Squeeze Control. In my opinion Orange Squeeze and Squeeze Control are the two go-for-options. Both of them are under active development and the current state is close to perfect for both, I think any minor quirks are more a matter of personal taste than real UI or App design issues. My personal experience is that both are very responsive and supportive towards bugs/enhancements. I have switched forth and back between the two and currently I have stuck with Squeeze Control. But as stated above, it is more a matter of personal taste than of real issues with one or the other. Two minor pro arguments for Squeeze Control could be that is has a dedicated tablet mode (although it is a 1$ in-app purchase) and that the developer has started to add support for Chromecast as a "What's playing"-display ;-) Cheers, Seb "The only word I know is 'Grunt' - and I can't spell it" (R.I.P. Another vote for Orange Squeeze. I used the stock app for a good while, but got fed up with accidental short vs. long presses. Orange squeeze has none of that nonsense, works well in both phone & tablet form, and is still actively developed. I haven't experienced any bugs so far. I feel it was well worth the money. Re: [slim] Android controller apps
Wrong forum? Would have been more sensible to post this in 3rd party software if you ask me. In my opinion, the Logitech app is slow (sometimes almost unresponsive) and limited in functionality (it doesn't integrate nicely with some of the plugins). Some other controller apps are prettier. The Logitech app hasn't been updated in quite some time - thus, the current release hasn't been tested against recent versions of Android. I like Orange Squeeze. Its GUI feels snappy. The album art display looks good. Overall, it's been running smoothly for me although I currently am affected by a bug in the latest version. Squeezer is a FOSS option. I've tested early builds. There was much to like, but the app didn't seem 100% stable and solid to me. But it's an app to watch. poing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63617 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Android controller apps
Hi all, I've been using the Controller as my control device since I started with the SB products. Worked fine for me, and I wondered what all the excitement was about, with respect to other control mechanisms. Well, I've been toying with my new Android phone (running KitKat, 4.4.x) and got the free Logitech controller app. What a difference! I now understand. . . Can someone point me to one of the discussions of the relative merits of different alternative control apps? I know the consensus is that the Logitech app is not the best, but I've lost track of the conclusions. R. Agreed. My LMS (7.9 running on an o2 joggler that also doubles up as 1 of my players) Serves music to my small family of SB players, none of them Logitech hardware anymore and also feeds a couple of DNLA devices for music and movies. For DNLA purposes it is slightly inconvenient having to do a scan every time I add a new episode of a TV series I watch but not too onerous as my tablet is always handy anyway. Re: [slim] Android Media Player as squeezebox replacement
I tested the following setup: ASRock Ion 330 with Lubuntu 14.04 LTS running LMS 7.8.1 as music/video server (this one usually feeds my Boom, Duet and Radio), Google Chromecast stick connected to a Samsung TV (sound through a Samsung 2.1 soundbar) and controlled through the app BubbleUPnP (paid version) on my Nexus 7. Works fine for mp4 and avi videos (only paid version of BubbleUPnP supports avi) and mp3 and flac music. Problem is the bad sound quality of the Samsung setup compared to my vintage Wega amp and Quadral speakers connected to the Duet through a Parasound DAC 1500. But I'm sure if you hook your Chromecast/TV setup to a nice system, that would be by far better--I just don't watch that much TV/videos/movies, so I don't have any need for that. Nevertheless, LMS is imho an excellent choice for setting up a UPnP server on a linux box, not only for audio through Squeezebox devices, but for occasional video streaming to a tv set, too. wortgefecht's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63295 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102125 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Much cheaper than a phone or tablet, especially if you don't need the screen on the player device. I set a friend up with Logitech Music Server some months ago exclusively so he could play his server-side music collection on his iOS devices. [slim] Android Media Player as squeezebox replacement
I searched and haven't found anyone mentioned this specifically. I'm wondering why don't people just use an android media player for squeezebox replacement. For example: http://www.amazon.com/G-Box-Midnight-MX2-Android-Streaming/dp/B00CH643A8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410459605&sr=8-1&keywords=android+media+player http://www.amazon.com/Keedox%C2%AE-Android-Player-Netflix-YOUTUBE/dp/B00F4SEOIW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1410459605&sr=8-2&keywords=android+media+player I have an earlier version of the G-Box Midnight. I just buy SqueezePlayer for a couple of dollars and setup Startup Manager (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=imoblife.startupmanager) to start SqueezePlayer every time the player starts. And I don't even have to turn on my TV. It has worked for me very well. Obviously, it's not as elegant as Squeezebox. But it works. yxz11's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61641 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102125 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I used the included HDMI cable to attach the mini-PC to my HDTV and plugged in the power supply. Within 30 seconds or so, my TV was displaying the Android ICS desktop. Upon plugging an HP wireless mouse receiver into the full-size USB on the mini-PC a mouse pointer appeared. After joining the mini-PC to my wireless network and installing Squeeze Player via Google Play, I was able to select the mini-PC in LMS on my laptop and send music to it exactly the same as any of my other SB players. At this point, the sound was coming via HDMI from my TV speakers. This mini-PC has only one full-size USB port, so I used another cable it shipped with to plug the DAC into its "USB OTG" mini-port and I had music in my headphones. It wasn't perfect as there was the occasional crackle. I pulled out the mouse receiver and plugged the DAC into the full-size USB which had to be done via a short dongle due to space constraints and the crackle went away. Via HDMI & USB: - Plays FLAC and MP3; I didn't have other formats to test - Plays 16/24 - 44/88/96 files; whether these are being resampled along the way I don't know - A short glitch every so often If this were my only experience of Squeezebox I'd probably not be that impressed, but for the extension of an existing SB system into another room I don't see how it can be beat. If you already have an A/V receiver, you can plug the mini-PC directly to HDMI and skip the USB DAC altogether. Remember, you only need a display for initial set-up. After that, using the free "Startup Manager" app you can configure the mini-PC to automatically start Squeeze Player upon boot. Of course, you can always leave the display connected and have album art visible. Or install an Android SB controller and navigate via your TV and a mouse. The mini-PC does not have an Ethernet jack, but Ethernet/USB adapters are available. I can't say whether my wireless was the cause of the occasional glitch I heard, but I suspect it was as the on-screen wireless strength icon seemed to dip at the same time. It wouldnt surprise me as living in a high-rise apartment building with another one directly across the street is a wireless nightmare. I don't need another SB device at this point, so I unplugged the DAC and re-attached the mouse receiver. I now use the mini-PC as a Netflix streaming device on a secondary HDTV. The wireless mouse provides control from across the room. If I were to do this again, I'd spend a bit more and purchase a dual- or quad-core mini-PC for the extra CPU power. Again, I don't know if CPU or wireless issues were the cause of occasional drop-outs. Some reviewers have complained about the device over-heating, but my experience is that it only gets warm during playback and at rest returns to room temp; I leave it on all the time. +---+ |Filename: Mini-PC.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15222| +---+ Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99865 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Android TV Sticks/Boxes as Squeezebox Replacement
marlo wrote: > Could you please check if playback of hires-files is possible via hdmi > and/or spdif? hi Marlo, Sorry for the late answer. Right now SqueezePlayer uses an AudioAPI that is compatible with pretty old Android versions ("AudioTrack" / http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/AudioTrack.html#AudioTrack(int, int, int, int, int, int) This supports only samplerate of 48kHz and 16Bit material. I also checked about the multichannel possibilities now. Unfortunately there is a parameter "channelConfig" which allows only the parameter Mono + Stereo. So unless I rewrite the whole audio engine of SqueezePlayer (which is not planned right now I'm afraid) both request right now cannot be fulfilled. On newer Android version (starting 4.0) audio support was improved in Android. Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. Re: [slim] Android TV Sticks/Boxes as Squeezebox Replacement
Very nice. I may have to spend my money on your player app, which I've been putting off as I have too many real SB boxes. I bought a Rikomagiv RK809IV to play with but so far it's not great on video playback, but I am going to be testing other ROMs and even Ubuntu soon. One thing that did spring to mind was that now with real HDMI and not just S/PDIF I should in theory be able to playback multichannel DVD Audio rips. No idea what the Squeeze platform (server, your player etc.) might do with that - any ideas? I assume the ability to decode multichannel FLAC and then stream multichannel LPCM over the HDMI will not be a native function - any guesses if this is feasible? I have the luxury of two living rooms, one for music with a 2.0 (going to test an old subwoofer to maybe go 2.1 soon) and the other the TV/movie room with a nice 5.1 setup- currently an SB Touch in each.
