Just a quick update FYI.
I upgraded the router to a dual band Linksys.
The skips and cut outs have ceased . Thanks for all the helpful recs and

Yes, the WGUC station is a high (192) bitrate and this is the reason I
like it a lot. It doesn't seem to have a lower bitrate stream.
I'll see what happens with this new router channel. Right now (3:45pm)
it has been fine. The problem seems to begin at about 7:00pm.
Thanks for you input.

In an earlier post you said that the most problematic station (WGUC)
"...streams at a very fast bitrate when compared to other stations in
the playlist" I take you mean it streams at a _high_ bitrate? If
so, the constraint is more likely your ISP or the station itself, and
not your router. It can't hurt anything to try changing router channels,
but it may not help.

Does that station have a lower bitrate channel you could try? The lower
bitrate may be lower fidelity, but if the high bitrate is regularly
cutting out then the low bitrate may be more tolerable in the long run.

Yes, it sounds like a good idea. Thank you. I also changed router

For your personal preferences it may not be any better than playlists of
stations, which you are obviously used to (and I find completely alien).
That is, as long as the stations keep playing without interruption.

The clearest difference will be the cases when the station is dropping
out. As a playlist, it skips to the next item on the current playlist,
as you've found. If it's a Favorite, then the station is the only item
on the current playlist (think right side of the web interface). So it
will rebuffer or try to re-establish the connection until you tell it to
do something else.

You make Favorites folders using the LMS web interface. Here is a quick
intro:

- Open the LMS web interface in your browser, and navigate to Favorites
- Hover your mouse cursor over the Favorites line, and a pencil icon (a
very fat pencil) will appear on the right side of the same line as
"Favorites"
- Click on the pencil icon to enter Edit mode
- your Favorites appear on a list, with buttons at the bottom for "New
Favorite", "New Folder" , and Import.
- you can define folders via "New Folder", and then drag-and-drop
Favorites into those folders. You can also delete Favorites you may not
want any longer.
- to exit Edit mode, click on "Home" on the top left of the left pane of
the web ui

You can create folders for organizing your favorites -- which may be
especially helpful to you as you note you have many.

If you save those stations as Favorites then you may find it just as
convenient. In fact, with Favorites on LMS you can create a nested
folder structure, which can be more convenient than browsing a long
list.

I have playlists of favorite stations for convenience in switching from
one to another. The playlist consists of radio stations and music
service stations( Sirius,Sky,etc). It's very convenient to be able to
change from say classical to Sinatra or whatever.

I think I did try listening to the one station (WGUC) singly when not
part of the playlist and I do think that it just rebuffers..actually I
think I should recheck that to be sure.

Thanks.

What happens if it's not playing as part of a playlist, I presume the
station will just buffer and continue playing.

Out of interest why do you have playlists of radio stations? Couldn't
you add them individually to favorite's

Re: [slim] Automatic skips to next playlist station.

2014-04-11 Thread Ikabob

Well, I guess I really did not fix this skipping problem.
It seems , as I had stated in the original post, that the station still
seems to randomly occasionally skip to the next station in the playlist.
It happens only while listening to a certain station(WGUC) which is
unique because it dreams at a very fast bitrate when compared to other
stations in the playlist. The skipping seems to be more frequent at
certain times of day( like 7:00 pm forward).
This issue is tolerable,I guess, but I'd really like to fix it.
Is there some setting in the LMS settings that might make a more stable
situation for this issue?
Any suggestions? I'm now running Win7 and LMS v 7.3.*.
Thank you.

Other than this issue, the SB ecosystem is still very very awesome. I'd
be lost without it.

[slim] Automatic skips to next playlist station.

2014-04-06 Thread Ikabob

After installing Windows7 and LMS, I am having an issue.
Many of my playlists are lists of radio stations (WGUC, for example).
While listening to this station I find that the feed becomes interrupted
and the next thing I find is that the next station on the playlist is
now playing. As background information, I am running LMS 7.3 (but I've
tried 7.8 also) and usually synching a SB touch device plus a SB radio
device. Signal strengths on the devices are normally about 50% and 60%
respectively.
Thanks for any advice to correct this.
