If you own a Win Mobile device just test the software :-) And than give some comment. It is necessary your Win Mobile Phone have WLAN integration. Also, you can use a JVC DVD remote including a universal remote with JVC DVD codes. I use my Yamaha AVR remote to control my SB3, works great. Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
thanks everyone for the quick & plentiful replies. its good to hearthat the touch remote will work with the SB classic, that is definitely a viable option. although I am slightly concerned about the lack of brightness button for update, I am not sure which firmware version I have, i'll check it out when I get home. anyone know when the firmware changed to the version where you can update using left button? my remote may still be fixable i'd need to have another look, it fell in a glass of orange squash and went un noticed for most of the day (one downside to you're music causing everything to vibrate off of its surface!) when I opened it up I found the capacitor had pretty much burst and the solder in the area of the capacitor was corroded. I cleaned it all up and fitted a replacement capacitor but it didn't work when I tested it... maybe the irled needs reflowing too. any other ideas? as for windows mobile devices i have a few to choose from, orange spv & spv 500 (cant remember htc names for these) blue angel, universal, touch & my current mobile the touch hd. which software givs the fullest control? -- DeeJayRy Squeezebox Classic > IXOS XHA806 > Rotel RC971 Pre Amp > IXOS XHA806 > Rotel RB971 Power Amp > Chord Rumor > Bowers & Wilkins 685 Squeeze Center Server, CPU: athlon 1400Mhz. A lot of users that own a Logitech controller own now one of this solutions and be more happy. They control all software and hardware players with WLAN so you are independant from room. Price of the software is realy fair. A lot of users buy if they do not have a used mobile at ebay. I am specialized for VPA 3 or also named as Blue Angel and you can get them from 30.- Euros in Ebay Germany. Plus some coins for software and you are happy again. VPA 3 have the advantage to come allways with a cradle. You can see the covers like in the Touch but bigger Screen. And if a cover is missed it download them direct from Amazon. Same you have direct access include to the Lyrics. Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
I've noticed Amazon.com has new, slightly discounted SB3 Classic units in stock. The seller is -among others- amazon, and while the stock does not seem high the offer has been running for a week or 2 already. For ~ $230 you could get a spare SB3 and a new remote ? Only one caveat hopefully DeeJayRy's remote broke while he was on never version of ss/sc/sbs the older firmware does not have the auto-upgrade option. And no possibility to upgrade to never versions as you must have "brightness" button. Is the transporter ir remote still avaliable ? it should have brightness. I can confirm that the Touch remote actually works fine on a SB3, it's actually slightly better, fits nicely in your hand, just better ergonomics imo. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE for the rear ch. Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
The Brightness button is used for firmware updates on the SB2/SB3/Classic. If you don't manage to repair your SB3/Classic remote, then you should set the SB to update firmware automatically. You can do this (after you get a functioning remote) by holding down the left arrow key for ~5 seconds until you get into the basic player firmware menu. Somewhere in the setup options is an option for automatically updating the firmware. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=8 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
One option would be the remote for the Touch. It's more similar in size/functionality to the SB3 remote. The Touch remote, I believe does NOT have the brightness button, which I think is used to re-initialize the SB3 if required (don't remember the process). How "broken" is your SB3 remote? There is a known issue with the connection between the IR transmiter and the circuit board which can usually be repaired by re-flowing the solder connection at those locations. -- tcutting tcutting's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17402 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=8 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch you can install the iPeng app for $10 and it makes a great remote/controller for any Squeezebox. Alternatively, consider getting the infrared remote for the SB Touch. It's smaller than the original SB3/Classic remote and doesn't have all the same buttons (no Brightness button or 1-2 others), but the big advantage over the Boom remote is that has alphanumeric keys just like your old SB3/Classic remote. Those keys are great for jumping to specific artists, albums, tracks, etc. And the Touch remote is only a little more expensive than the Boom remote. Finally, your old remote may be fixable -- it depends how you broke it. Often the connection for the emitter gets broken, but it can be fixed with a soldering gun and a steady hand. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=8 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Broken Remote for SB classic.
i've broken the remote for my SB classic and have been told by logitech support that a replacement remote is not available so i'd like some help evaluating the options i have for controlling my SB. I have SlimControl on my windows mobile device but its a bit limited for things like last.FM and shoutcast are there any other Windows mobile clients available? The SB Controller looks like a great device but i'm not sure i've got £200 to blow on what is essentially a remote control, does the controller really live up to its price tag? what about the remote for the SB Boom? its cheap but lacks a lot of the functionality of the original remote, i guess you can still navigate all features using the D-pad, instead of using the shortcut buttons. Or the harmony controlers, how do they perform? i guess £60-80 is a reasonable price.
