Although I also generally have an aesthetic preference lowercase am/pm,
I do like the fact that I can look at a switched off SB and know
immediately whether it is connected to SC or SN. So it's not
necessarily an inconsistency if it is relaying useful information
about the state of the SB. The Boom even takes it a step further,
telling you when it is not connected to either SC or SN. In that case
the Boom's real time clock displays uppercase AM/PM, and also lights up
 its front panel buttons.

These SB signals actually saved me a lot of running up and down the
stairs when I was sorting out problems getting my SC server to
automatically suspend to SN using the SrvrPowerCtrl plugin. Now it
serves as an easy confirmation that the plugin and the server are doing
what they are supposed to do.

I see what you're saying, but it isn't something that I like! I pretty
much know when my SB3/Boom are connected to SN. I use SvrPowerControl
(great plugin) to switch off SC at night, and switch over my SB3 and
Boom to SN. Then at 6.30 the server restarts and reconnects those
devices. Works very well.

If you're using Mac OS or Linux/Unix, you can edit a .pm file
(Slim/Utils/DateTime.pm) to add a lowercase time format. On Windows
you'd need to switch to ActiveState's interpreter or rebuild, I think.

Thanks for that tip - I did wonder if it was as simple as that. Of
course, it will get over written on SC upgrade, hence it would be good
to have the addition in the distribution.

always think to myself boy, I'm glad I don't need to read THAT when I

I completely agree! I find the upper case AM/PM does make it harder to
read. Sounds odd, but its tree. I guess it is a matter of personal
taste. That is one of the strengths of SC/SB3/Boom etc - you can
configure it to be just right for you.

MeSue;415703 Wrote:
The case for upper and lower case has already been explained in this
thread. I just thought I would mention that there is an option to leave
the AM/PM off entirely. It's in the date format settings.

Thanks for the tip - I did try that, but I like having am/pm there.

H, sounds like the kind of thing I say to our customers at work!
As a feature it is missing the ability to configure it!

You could raise an enhancement request on http://bugs.slimdevices.com

Not saying it's going to get done, but worth raising it anyway :)

If you provide a patch for additional time format strings, it's more
likely to get changed.

Again, I don't use the clock on any SD device, but based on my personal
preferences and hearing others ideas, my suggestions would be to add the
following options to the SC time display:

- move AM/PM a couple spaces away from the displayed time
- offer AM/PM in lower case
- offer a small bullet for PM

If I did use SD players for a clock I'd surely choose no AM/PM
displayed (which is currently available). I have too many digital
clocks in the house as it is (three in the kitchen alone, built into
appliances) and not one even has an option for AM/PM.

My philosophy: If I see 9:00 displayed on a clock and I do not know if
it is AM or PM then I have a lot more serious issues than being late for
an appointment. :)

[slim] Can I see time in lower case?

2009-04-15 Thread chris.mason

Hmm, wasn't sure how to phrase the question for the thread...but this is
what I mean:

I am now the proud owner of a Boom. Its used a bedside clock/radio,
and it is very effective.

Pretty much all the time it displays the time (using the Date/Time
screensaver). I like the 12hr format, so it shows AM and PM...what I
would like is for AM and PM to appear in lower case. Just seems more
friendly somehow :-)

Is that possible? I can't see a way of setting that through SC.

You might have found if not a bug, then an inconsistency between
SqueezeCenter and SqueezeNetwork, Chris.

On -SqueezeNetwork-, the time displays as 6:50 pm - i.e. lower case
pm, but SC doesn't seem to do that, insisting on upper case.
