Thanks for your replies. I found the right driver, and refresh rate is
much better.

The installation probably didn't detect your video chipset and so it
installed a generic video driver. These tend to be slow. If you want
to improve the video you'll have to install the right drivers, most
likely found on the laptop manufacturer's web site. If the machine is
used as a dedicated SqueezeCenter server, though, it's not terribly
important to have efficient video drivers.

Ok the disc you used is it a pure XP disc from Microsoft or is from the
laptop manufacturer ?
check your hardware settings if you have a lot of these yellow "?".
Laptop's are a bit special, it's no guarantee that win-xp has the best
drivers for it's hardware the "graphic card" is often an on board chip
of some kind, same with the sound.
If this is the problem you probably have to search on the internet and
download drivers for most of the things in it.
I reinstalled an Ibm p40t at work the other day, that lead to a hunt
for a lot of drivers on ibm's/lenovo's homepage. For example i had no
drivers for the network card ,sound and barely working ones for the
graphic.
Did it came a bunch of discs with the laptop ? maybe you have
everything you need.

My install went fine, but now when I move my windows around the screen,
the motion is very choppy. Is there a setting for this?

I got to a screen that allowed me to choose to delete the current
windows installation. I hope that is right.

Re: [slim] Clean reinstall of Windows XP

2009-03-14 Thread MeSue

System Properties, advanced tab, startup and recovery settings will let
you remove that bootup prompt.

If you want to try again, I think there is an option to do a clean
install on the same partition where Windows is already installed. It
will rename your old Windows folder to Windows.old and then you can
just delete after the clean install.

Re: [slim] Clean reinstall of Windows XP

2009-03-14 Thread Kyle

I never could get it to work. I can't reformat the C-drive manually (it
won't allow me to), and when I go to the install setup screen, it asks
me to choose a partition and then says there's already an operating
system on that partition and doesn't give me the option to reformat the
HDD. Anyway, I'm giving up on this, but now when I restart, I go to a
DOS-like screen that asks me to choose which operating system to boot
up -- Windows XP Professional or Windows Setup. How can I get rid of
this screen? The setup is the default, so you have to choose the XP
Pro option each time.

Re: [slim] Clean reinstall of Windows XP

2009-03-13 Thread spumanti

Hi Kyle.

First, you need to be aware that when you format your harddrive, you
loose EVERYTHING stored on that drive. Make sure you have backups of
all the important things on the PC before you format the HDD.

Then you simply instert the CD in the PC, and restart the PC. It should
then boot up on the CD, and then you will be given the option of
reformatting your harddrive or install in a different location.

Hope it helps.

[slim] Clean reinstall of Windows XP

2009-03-13 Thread Kyle

The old laptop that I use for SqueezeCenter is my old primary computer.
Now it's used only for SC, websurfing and email. It has gotten really
clunky and slow, however, so I was thinking of wiping it clean and
reinstalling Windows XP from a disc. I thought I could just insert the
disc and it would take over, reformatting the HDD and installing the OP.
However, it looked like it was going to install a second OP, so I guess
I have to reformat the disc manually and then insert the OP disc. Will
this work?
