I previously asked if people had tools to correct pathnames in m3u playlists (for example, after having re-organised my music directory, making a simple search and replace not possible). I thought I'd mention that I found DionaSS Audiologic to do exactly the job I wanted. You point it at the root of your music, and so long as the filenames remained the same, it will find them again. The rest are easy enough to do via its manual update facility. I was surprised how many entries had already become disconnected, where I had not realised the files were referenced by a playlist as I was merrily moving them around. Hope it helps others. I spoke to the author of m3uconv recently - he's taken the program down for a reason, but is very happy for someone else to make it available (i.e. me !). Sidule has posted this link in several threads recently: http://www.joejaworski.com/m3u/. I downloaded and used on her recommendation, and it worked perfectly. However, I have had to tweak my playlists since then and used a regular editor for that task which would also worked with Find Replace for the directories. Hmmm - I tried that link but it doesn't seem to go anywhere. Backing up a level gives a load of links about aqauriums I'm looking for a simple app into which to load a .m3u file to check if all the links are correct, highlight any that are not. Can't really do that from a text editor, nor easily fix the paths if the files have each moved in different ways. What playlist editors do people use that can fix this kind of stuff? Well, I noticed that the site was under construction. I can't say whether the author still wants to hand out his software. I could PM you the program it's small, but probably the best thing is to just use Notepad, WordPad, or some other editor. Find/Replace works just as well and you're even in a bit more control. I use the excellent PSPad text editor http://www.pspad.com to edit playlists by hand. When I re-rip things in a different format, PSPad's search-in-files facility is brilliant for finding all instances of an album in all my playlists, so I can quickly get to the ones that matter. It also supports regexp search/replace, so if I'm feeling brave I can have a go at automating the renaming (it's never as simple as .mp3 -- .flac, sigh). Alternatively, I use MediaMonkey and visit each of my playlists in turn - missing tracks stand out like a sore thumb. [slim] Fixing playlists
I'd like to re-organise my music folders to make them easier to navigate via the remote control, but this will break all my playlists (.m3u files) that have pathnames pointing to the files where they are now. Does anyone know of, or dare I ask, can write, a script that would take a .m3u playlist, ask what top level folder it should find the music in, and update the .m3u file? It would also be cool to have a script that checks if any of the links in a .m3u file are broken, in case I move files around and forget that they are already referenced by a playlist.
